From: mollyosb My mother remembers her grandmother singing her a song when she was little (early 1930s) that included a line "and she had a gum-boil on her knee." Unfortunately, she can't remember any of the rest of it, and has started to question her sanity! Does that ring any bells??? Thanks... |

13 May 25 - 06:15 AM (#4222480) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A song with 'gum-boil on her knee'??? From: GUEST My Dad came from Limerick, in Eire - Southern Ireland. He used to sing this, and play it on his harmonica. Sometimes he played the spoons when he sang it to my brother and I. "The cat had a gum boil, A toothache, A bellyache, A pain in his left leg, And a pimple on its nose." He never used to sing the chorus. I believe that his Dad used to sing it to him and his brother and sisters, when they were very young. My grandfather had died not long before, and I think that it must have hurt him too much. I had always wondered what the chorus was, but now I know. "Daddy when you die will you leave me the fidle-o, Daddy when you die' will you leave me the bow!" My father died many years ago, and I will always miss him. |
