After years of working together in South Yorkshire and beyond, Alan and John (AKA the Buffalo Brothers) are calling it a day. There are two farewell gigs planned very soon, at Epworth Folk Club on Monday 24th May and at Folk Down the Dale in Doncaster on Saturday 5th June. folk4donny
See them while you can - you won't refret it.

And you won't regret it either!
The Buffalo Brothers are a highly-talented writing/performing duo and it's a sad loss to the folk scene in the S. Yorks/Notts/Lincs area that they're calling it a day.
Come on folks, get down to Ep'th or Donny and give them a great send-off.

Please confirm that the venue is at the Old School Inn, because we heard that it could be at The Red Lion in Epworth. Thanks Sooz, we will be THERE.

When a living legend is becoming just a legend, we should all be there and I sure will be. To all folk lovers, go for it and come to one of the final performances. It will be well worth your while.
Be Blessed.

Sorry to hear that these two are no longer going to be performing together. I met them when I worked in Doncaster in the late 80's and went to the folk club that Allan and John ran - I think it was the Three Horseshoes pub. I as asked to become part of a group they were in - Swiftnick - and we did a few gigs during my time in Donny including the Doncaster folk festival - go down THIS page for a not very flattering photo!
After twelve months or so work caught up with me and I had to move on but I had a very enjoyable time with Allan, John and Alan Nicol as well as everyone else in the club whose names sadly escape me now.
Why Buffalo Brothers? I sing a song called "Joseph Cross" by Eric Taylor about a North American Indian - one line of the chorus goes "He's killed for hunger his buffalo brother". Allan loved the song when the song when I sang it at the club and that line obviously caught his attention.
Have fun at the gig lads

Cheers
Mark

Magic, magic, magic! Last night's performance at Epworth was absolutely superb, there are a lot of 'A' List-ers who couldn't do better. Astonishing in view of the fact that they've not played together for two years. Tasteful and balanced accompaniments, and two great voices that blend perfectly. What a waste of talent if they pack it all in. Have a think about it Allan & John, your audience is still out there.

I've just been in touch with Allan to sort something out regarding a floor for the night. I'll be there and he's asked me to do a spot sometime in the evening.
Looking forward to it. I haven't seen them since 1989!!

Cheers

Hi there

Well it looks like I'm getting the hang of commenting on this forum now.

What can I say? Thank you for all your kind words. Mark did indeed join us at our farewell gig and he helped make it one of the most memorable nights I've had in a folk club in the last, ooer thirty years? Thanks again Mark.

Thanks also to Sooz who brought all this to your attention. The Buffalo Brothers were fantastically crap at self publicity, regularly turning up to gigs with no cds, never having had one single decent photograph taken of them and only ever doing gigs when the phone rang.

I've not seen Buffalo John since the gig, he's up in Northumberland hugging a tree and doing some oms no doubt. But as soon as I see him we're going to have words. It may be that since Fairport Convention look like packing Cropredy in for good, we may do our own miniscule version of it. Buffalo Stampede 2005 may already be in the pipeline?

Thanks everybody
Allan Wilkinson

I'm looking forward to hearing the recording of the bit with Swiftnick. I can't believe we sang after 15 years with 2 minutes practice and it sounded good!

I did what you suggested and felt a distinct surge of lifechangingness run through my entire body.

I popped into see Alan Nicoll this afternoon and he sends his regards. He says that he's going to risk dusting down his fiddle.
