more than you ever thought of asking. History, news, tips & tricks, sites that use it, analyses and admonitions....serious studies and outright silliness. (yeah, Googlewhacking is still going)

hold your breath and dive in

And your point is?

(I like Google too, btw)

What is your problem, man?

point? sometimes the only point is to gain more knowlege & perspective. Information is a value by itself, and Google is one of the most pervasive influences on our lives these days, whether you 'like' it or not.

Funny story, years ago I was showing an Internet beginner how to use it. I went to the yahoo search and asked him what does he want to research. His mind went completly blank, he couldn't think of a single thing. After a few minutes of ahh ahh I ask him what kind of a car he drove. A quick search and we were reading a forum for owners of the same make and model car. Next was movies, music, crafts, hobbies, news, weather, sports, medical. Wow, look at that. He couldn't think of anything because he had no idea what the Internet was. Now, he loves it.

Indeed, YOR...the lightning flash of amazement when someone first realizes that almost anything is displayed, discussed... or just plain dissed ...for research or fun!

I was once in a chat room, when someone typed "oh...my kid just spilled grape juice on the carpet!"...in less than 2 minutes I had found a site with instructions on dealing with almost any stain, and she was applying the remedy to her carpet. (and that was 8 years ago, when AltaVista was THE search engine....)

That's why the Google studies are so interesting and important....human knowlege is being organized in new ways.

Depending upon what I'm looking for, I may use Google. It's okay for common stuff.

But I'll use a meta-search engine, such as Metacrawler, when I'm looking around seriously. I mean, meta-engines search the cached files of plain search engines like Google.

And for my taste, Altavista has the best search engine for images around.

My favorite thing about Google, and correct me if I'm wrong, but it's the only search engine that provides highlights for whatever you've typed into the search box. By clicking on "cached" instead of the main website, I've saved myself hours by not having to read though whole article to try to pick out what I'm looking for.
