BS: My 2500th Post!

28 Jul 04 - 08:19 PM (#1235948)
Subject: BS: My 2500th Post!
From: Blackcatter

Hello all,

I was checking back and this post right here is the 2500th one I've made as a member of Mudcat. Doesn't count all the cookie-less ones, of course but oh well.

My first post was in Oct. of 1999. I started posting as Blackcat and then as Blackcat 2 (I used to forget passwords). I know there are many here who have posted longer and more in quantity than I have, but 2500 over nearly 5 years.

How long have you been here, how many posts have you made, and what was you favorite thread of all time.

The Drumcree threads were my favorite, hands down.

my first post was on the weight loss thread in Dec 03. since then i have posted too many times (and put on even more weight!)

my favourite thread is Sgt Kat and her howling Mudcat commandos.

This is my 20,048th post on the Mudcat. I think perhaps my favorites have been the joint fiction threads, particularly the Steamboat Albert Hansell, the Mudcat Enterprise, and the Drinking Gourd.

I shudder to realize that on an average of perhaps 2 minutes per post, I have been writing posts on the Mudcat for the equivalent of 83.5 solid days of ordinary work -- that is, 8-hour days. That doesn't include reading time. Somebody stop me before I post again!! :>))

almost 11,000 since late Oct or early Nov of 1996! (early ones used slightly different name...before 'membership')(Bert & Dick Greenhaus are about the only names from that era I still recognize )

I can't see how Amos does it...I can't think OR type that fast.

9026 since July 23, 2000. Wow, I just passed my four year aniversary. A lot of fuel has passed under the reactor since my first post.

I don't think I have a favorite thread, but the ones I like the best are the ones that make me laugh the most.

Amos has only been here about nine months longer than me (I think), and he has more than twice as many posts as me. This surprises me for some reason, although I'm not sure why.

5600 since 1997.

There was a time when I still could keep fairly reliable Mudcat records. Now I can't due to the number of posts. But way back in those times, Amos did keep the record for highest number of posts on a single day:

63 (on 29th of Feb 2000)

Sorcha did keep the record for the strongest MC entry:
23 posts on her first day at Mudcat (which made some people doubt whether it actually was her first day on Mudcat)

My favourite quote to this theme comes from Rick Fielding:
overposting with no discernible content
(This is my association to this theme, and NOT to Amos or Sorcha)

Well, I'm at 13,553. I was off on one of my wanderings in the fall of 1996, so I didn't post my first message until January 5, 1997. I see RichR posted his first message Janyary 10, 1997; and I take some pleasure in knowing that I beat him. There are a number of people who have been here since 1996. Bill mentioned Bert, Max, and Dick Greenhaus. Gene Graham was here giving advice on classic country music back then. So was Susan of DT, and Martin Ryan, Susan A-W, and LaMarca. Ralph Butts and Bill Foster were here, but I guess we haven't seen them for a long time. Musicman was there, and he still comes by now and then. Oh, I see Ed was here, and I think that's the same Ed we have still. Oh, and GARGOYLE showed up in November, 1996.
I thought Dale Rose and Peter T came in 1996, but maybe not. I gave up at the end of December - just over 400 threads by then.

This makes 4338 as Stilly River Sage. A modest collection of posts by some standards, excessive by others. I don't write as quickly as Amos so I've probably spent as much time in reading and composition but sent fewer posts. I'm not sure exactly when I started, I'd have to go back and find the posts I sent under my own name for a while and add them to this number.

Well that's another question. How long did it take you to join? Me it was probably only a few days and posts.

That was mostly because joining didn't really entail anything. Heck, there is still listed the possibility of receiving email from the Mudcat, but I've never got any. Sniff.

Blackcatter, your right. I'm at about 100 more than I thought previously!
Guest, I actually didn't make that Black Velvet Band post, or the other one that shows up in in Oct. 97. Back then, there was no guest tag. My first post was actually to the Simpons thread back in November of 99 as it turns out. Also, every post with my name after that is mine. Still, thanks for taking the time to research my Mudcat history!

I'm at 11,224 posts (counting this one). Not bad. My first post was on July 15th 2000, when I started a thread called "Why are most mudcatters human?" It was a satirical response to a bunch of previous threads asking things like "Why are most mudcatters white?", "Why are most mudcatters heterosexual?", and various similar questions which seemed to be designed to beat some sort of unnecessary drum and arouse pointless controversy amongst the membership.

This was the post:

"Why are most mudcatters human?"

As long as we're trying to find out why most mudcatters are white and heterosexual, this is obviously a question worth asking, don't you think? I mean, it's really quite surprising that we don't have a solid contingent of felines, considering we are mudCATTERS, after all. Then too, my dog howls every time I play the harmonica. Why isn't he a mudcatter? Maybe if we changed the name to the "Muddog Cafe"... We don't have any Martians either. By golly, I think it's time we got to the bottom of this. Without delay.

The responses ranged from the haughty and indignant to the humorous to the helpful (Spaw, for example, was quite helpful). It ended up being an okay thread.

Bullheads receive a little begrudging admiration now and then, but their name still isn't dropped by anglers looking for status. In fact, they are almost entirely ignored in many areas where they are extremely common.

There are six species of North American bullheads. The black, yellow and brown bullhead are the three of interest to anglers. Within their range they are abundant and grow to a harvestable size. Three other bullheads – the flat, snail and spotted bullhead – rarely exceed a foot in length, and their range is confined to small portions of the southeastern United States Consequently, these bullheads rate low as gamefish.

Common Names – Horned pout, greaser, slick, polliwog, polly, paperskin, mudcat, creek cat, stinger, snapper, butterball, bullcat and bullpout.
