Lyr Req: Songs for rain,humidity,heat

I was out with my cooperating band the other day and we ran into a giant rain storm after lots of humidity. We were in a pavilion and out of the weather but the band had no rain or heat or humidity songs....

So I thought it would be good if they could come up with a song that addressed the condition of the audience and their suffering.

Anyone got a song for

Rain

Heat

Humidity

Always good to be able to shift gears to empathise with the audience.

Hello #1peasant,

I don't know what kind of songs you and your band normally play, but Alan Reid (Battlefield Band) wrote a song called "The Pleasure will be mine". Unfortunately, only the first verse is about miserable weather:

"The rain wis fa'en doon sae hard the drains were overflowin'
Ye'd almost think the Flood was comin' on
So they huddled in a corner tryin' tae keep oot a' the water
And he told her a' the things he had in mind"

Well did'n it rain, Noah,
God's gonna send his waters from Zion,
He's gonna raise his heaven up higher,
An it's gonna rain!

When that I was and a little tiny boy,
With a hey, ho, the wind and the rain
A foolish thing was but a toy
And the rain it raineth every day

"Let the wind and the rain and the hail go high
and snow come tumbling through the sky
She's as sweet as apple pie
She'll get her own love by and by"

If you're into Dylan, there's Hard Rain's Gonna Fall. A bit more trad, there's Deep River Blues. Misty Moist Morning would seem to fit in,
and there's always my fovourite little verse from the Beggar's Opera:
"Were I sold om India's soil
Soon as burning day was closed
I could mock the sultry toil,
When on my lover's breast reposed.."

Well, when it gets really hot, I usually sing:
(Bring Me Little Water,) Sylvie
and
Cool Water.

There's also
(We're Having A) Heat Wave

For rain songs, there's:
Early Morning Rain
Rhythm Of The Rain
Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head
Singin' In The Raid
Who'll Stop The Rain?
Have You Ever Seen The Rain?
and the Ladysmith Black Mambazo song, "Rain, Beautiful Rain"

A search for rain in the search box above yields well over 300 songs - take a look and enjoy selecting some.

At the moment I can't find lyrics to check to make sure I'm on point, but as I recall, Si Kahn's "Mississippi Summer" (of which I have a recording on Oysterband/June Tabor's Freedom and Rain) is marvelously evocative of hot, dusty, dry, insufferable summer weather. I hope my memory does not misgive!

It's raining, it's pouring
The old man is snoring
He went to bed, he bumped his head
And he couldn't get up in the morning

Peter, Paul & Mary have recorded it.

It ain't a-gonna rain no more, no more
It ain't a-gonna rain no more
How in the heck kin I wash my neck
If it ain't a-gonna rain no more?

"It rained and poured for forty days-i, days-i...
Nearly drove those animals craz-y, craz-y"

It would need to be song that would go out of tune in about 3 minutes (as my harp does in hot, humid weather). It's awful to be in the middle of Rakes of Mallow and suddenly find the f# is now closer to f natural.

Irish/Scottish music doesn't deal a lot with heat and humidity, but you'd think there would be more songs with the word "rain" featured prominently. How about Mountain Dew, Foggy Dew, or A Walk in the Irish Rain.

A song I used to love to sing but was banned from singing at our local festival as every time I reached the last verse - it would!

ANDY'S GONE WITH CATTLE

Oh may the showers in torrents fall and all the tanks run over......
