This is not an advert to prop up a failing folk club, or for financial gain (i.e. to put bums on seats) we don't need that. But for all those mature folkies who remember the halcyon days of the 60's folk scene, there's a chance to see Louis Killen at Kiveton Park Folk Club on Tuesday 17th August. Louis is one of the great revivalist singers and ranks alongside McColl and Lloyd for his contribution to traditional folk music. He is an unadulterated, hardcore traditional singer, originally from Tyneside. He has a wealth of musical knowledge and experience to pass on. So, nuff said. If you want to follow it up, visit www.kivetonfolk.fsnet.co.uk. or get us via the South Yorkshire website. An opportunity that traditionalists should'nt miss!

I'll second all of that, Guest.

And as someone who visits a lot of clubs, I'd say that Kiveton is as far from being a FAILING folk club as you could get. It's a weekly club with year-round attendance rates many monthly clubs would envy.
And the beer's cheap if you want it (coffee if you don't).
For those who don't get Stirrings, the club is in the Cricket Club, (off Stony Bank Drive), Wales near Sheffield - about 5 minutes from the M1/A57 junction.
I'm sure Andy Ducker would be happy to give you more info on 0114-287-9592 or try www.kivetonfolk.fsnet.co.uk

Just go and see him; three weeks ago I heard him singing "The Sheffield Apprentice" at The Robin Hood Folk Club in Stapleford, Notts and it was probably the best thing that I have heard all year

Definitely go and see Louis - as fine a performer as you could ever wish to see. Lucky Chance and the Trimdon Grange explosion are two particular favourites of mine, but just go and enjoy whatever he does. Relish him - he's brilliant!

(And he'll be performing in Lancaster at the Maritime Museum on Saturday 11th September too)

Louis Killen is a phenomenal performer. In the late '60s I went specifically to see and hear the man because I though there was much I could learn from his music, comportment on stage and his singing. It's unlikely he would remember me, but if any of you get there to see him and you speak with him, please say hello from Bruce Murdoch. He is a great singer/performer, and I assume his concertina work has only got better, and since it was great then, that would probably put him in the top five worldwide. Folks, it don't get much better than Louis Killen. I envy y'all the chance to see him.

From what I remember of singing at Kiveton Park folk club, and I sang there many times from the original Lord Conyers days onwards, I would recommend ANY folk song lover to go there, ANYTIME. It was everything a folk club should be in my opinion and I guess that it still is. Louis is one of the greats. It will be a marvellous night. My Regards to him, and to Andy Ducker, John Wells, and Ernie Sissons. Burl
