If you could meet one Mudcatter in person, who would you choose and why?

I've already met several dozen (including Kendall and Rick), and I wouldn't change one single bit of those experiences.

The ones I've never met and I regret very much I will never meet (at least in this lifetime) are LR Mole, and Little John Cameron. Mole especially.

But if I could choose only one to ever meet in person, I would have to choose my dear hubby, Jack the Sailor.

I've already met some of my favorite Mudcatters, including Mr Rick Fielding.

If I have to pick one I would like to meet...um...

I pick Amos. He's pretty cool.

And Spaw.

And Lonesome EJ.

And if I get out to Alberta, brucie.

And Doug R.

And if I hit Chicago, Martin Gibson, of course.

I also have a burning desire to meet Penelope Rutledge, even if she's not an official member. I would crawl naked through barbed wire for the privilege of kissing her lilywhite hand.

I am honored. Thanks. You're very cool, your own self!

If you get the opportunity to make good on your feverish vow about barbed wire, give me some advance warning as I think I know a few people who would like to watch!

FCUKin' J-from-H-ll!!!!

Bloody Bastard!!!

We set up a meeting for him to get me, through his "Taxi Service" over to the "Hoek von Holland Ferry" run by Stena.

I'm left having to get my bloomin arse over to Waterloo London and catch the Eruo....forfeiting my ferry fare.

May you rot in hell...you are no better than the "Black 47."

If I meet you .... face to face ....it will be a feint with the left and a round-house-hook with the right.....

Just fair warning....and I had Gerbil from the local store instead of a weak-assed-hamster.l

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

It is obvious why the transient residents (the captive university populations) view Hull with such disdainful discord.

I always enjoy an occasion to visit with the Mudcat friends I already know, those from the Northwest--too many to name without missing someone. Don and Bob go back about as far as I can remember.

I'd like to meet my Secret Santees, since I did some research about them (MMario and Barbry) and my Secret Santas (Morticia and Rock Chick). (Thanks again, catsPHiddle, for doing all of that work for all of us!)

I think it would be a hoot to tip a few beers with Amos and Bill D. and Rapaire, and be able to pull up chairs for many others to meet the mainstays of the MOAB in person. CarolC and the Oz folks, and of course there would be special seating for Max and Pene Azul and Joe Offer. Gotta meet those folks one of these days! They make it all possible.

Just one person, you say? Well, it would probably be Amos. He seems like an amazing person.

I owe so many people here thanks because they have been friends. Picking one is impossible. I have learned from everyone who posted. Some people shine because of their characters which show clearly in what they write. Others for their determination to set even the smallest things right. Others for their straight-forward honesty. Others for the love they have for their peers. Others for their humour and wit. Others for their thoughtfulness. Others for their erudition. Others for their outrageousness. Others for their fury, and others for their gentleness.

When I look at this place and the people on it, I am reminded of the saying by Will Rogers. I simply wish it read person instead of man. It was the times. These are more of the times, and I feel so fortunate to share part of them with many wonderful folks on the 'cat. May your personal angels (BillD, I heard that, so I have asked that mine keep an eye on you, too) continue to watch over all of you.

LH: You are something else, man, and you are rightfully in fine and fitting company with the guys and gals who post to this place.

Now, well, probably too many... ('Spaw, Max, kat, Amos...)but the meeting of the Washboard Sam of Ascot and the Charley Patton of Cleethorpes is long overdue, would put Stanley and Livingstone, Simon and Garfunkel, Laurel and Hardy into the shade!

I would like to meet just about everyone who has posted here. I hope one day I will. In Germany I'd like to meet Wolfgang and in Belgium Mooman. When I get to the UK the next time, I shall have to meet McGrath of Harlow - one of the wisest hearts ever to post here - along with Llanfranc, Countess Richard, Morticia, Jeannie, Greg Stephens, El Greko, Roger the Skiffler and many others. In the US, I have to meet In Obu, Joe Offer, Amos, khandu and Art Thieme, Kendall, Don Firth, Deckman, Frank Hamilton, Bobert, Big Mick, Jerry Rasmussen, Don Meixner, Robin 2, Katlaughing, Sorcha, Jeri, WYSIWYG and Jed Marum. In Canada I'd really like to meet Clinton Hammond and Little Hawk. I had the pleasure of meeting Marion last year - and I'd certainly drop in to say hello to her. In the next life maybe I'll get to have a beer with Rick Fielding.
Thanks to Mudcat, there are people all over the world who I dream of meeting.

The ones I've seen have been great fun
And I've met you in cyberspace, every one.

I'd like to meet 'Spaw, but that ankle bracelet means he doesn't usually get too far from home. Seems the cops thought he was responsible for Cletus and Paw's adventures, and they've even got his house staked out waiting for Reg and Reg to show up. Nobody's seen those boys for a while.

As to other folks, I don't usually know I want to meet people until I do. Sometimes, an individual's Mudcat persona is the tip of the iceberg. Sometimes it's the Titanic: looks impressive, but in reality, spends a lot of time below the surface. I'm likely to be more Titanic-like. I have time to think when I write, but on the rare occasions I think of something intelligent to say in a conversation, it arrives in my brain 10 minutes after it would have been appropriate to say it.

I'd like to meet folks, just to be surprised by learning things I don't know about them.

GUEST is right--the same old same old keep getting mentioned--not the brightest, not the best musicians, not the most helpful or the funniest, but the ones who post continuously, ad nauseum--

I've been to some of the get togethers, and have been generally ignored--"Who are you? Sorry--Gotta go talk to some no talent jerk who passes for someone important"--

By the way - it's a good opportunity to remind y'all about my standing invite. If you're visiting the Orlando/Disney area let me know (I, know: Disney, but hey, many of you have kids).

Anyway - I'll buy the first round at the local watering hole and if you'd like I'll give to an historical tour of Orlando to show you that we're not all Disney.

Have seen most of them perform and they range from good to damned good...maybe even excellent. On the strength of that, I would love to meet any Catters, as I am sure when face to face, people tend to get on well together and are pleased to meet....in spite of any or many differences.
Best wishes.

Marion was with us a couple of nights, and at one time I thought AllanC might pass through town, but he headed east and hasn't been back since. I saw several Mudcatters in February when Dad's ashes were scattered, and at Rainy Camp. Mudcat is a great network for meeting people and for making travel affordable, and as I read these remarks I find myself thinking "yes, I should have included that person and another person and another person. . ." The thread didn't start as a popularity contest, but might be a good diagnostic tool to reflect our short term memory skills. Who have we spoken to lately who we remembered to list. :)

Stilly, you and your SO are welcome in Guam any time, especially this weekend when we are painting the new place... *grin* However, you are welcome even after we finish that job. We have a spare room and I hope to have plenty of time to act as tour guide. What do you want to do first, go swimming in the crystal clear ocean or go hiking through the jungle to swim under a waterfall? Are there any ethnic Asian foods you like? They are all here on Guam.

Dick G. & BillD, when is the next FSGW? I might be able to make it this year if Iplan well enough in advance. I will be traveling to England in August and plan to spend the fall in New England.

Well, I've met Joe Offer and Dick Greenhaus and InOBU, and Kendall and Sorcha, and I've talked to Áine on the phone, and they're all people I'd have listed from the American side. And from over here there's jacqui.c and all the people at the Stony Stratford meet, and a fair number more from around the part of the world I live in or whom I've run into at Whitby and other festivals.

But as I start thinking I lose count of the people I would like to meet, and I can't start listing because I'd never be done. Let Jerry Rasmussen stand for all of them.

It would have been great to meet Rick Fielding though.

(And that's a date, alanabit.)

You are all so stuck up and self-satisified and disgusting that it makes my skin crawl. You have rejected me, wounded me, and marginalized me, and you don't even care! Why don't any of you want to visit ME??????? Why am I not central in your concerns? I'm just as cool as your inner clique! In fact, I'm cooler. I'm enraged that you don't appreciate me. I'm enraged that you go on and on talking among yourselves and don't include people like ME. You are elitists. I'm so infuriated about it that I am going to do the very worst thing I can think of, and that is I am going to turn my back on your stupid forum and ignore it forever and ever! That's right, you heard me. You people are not worth my time, because it's too valuable. Anyway, I'm way too sensitive and valuable to waste myself on pigs like you. I'm gone. I'm outta here. You have heard the last from ME. I don't need you. No sir. I don't need you at all. In fact I'm leaving NOW. Right now. You can't talk me out of it either! Go ahead, beg... I'm leaving. You heard me. BillD, that looks like it should fit into my plans. Plus I have a few chunks of wood for you including some ifit. I have lost your mailing addres so if you would be so kind as to PM it to me I may be able to send them to you.

As a woodworker you would be interested in the wood we used in our outigger canoe. The tam (pontoon) is joined to the outrigger beams at right angles. As such the connection is subject to racking stress. The canoe builders use a wood they call negus to form a spring mechanism to control that movement. Negus grows like a bush, nothing bigger than 2 inches in diameter, and nothing straight. I cannot break a 3 foot long 1 inch thick piece over my knee. It's so dense it will not float, even when well seasoned. Neat stuff.

Tweed, Bobert & I were to meet in Como,MS to hear Tony Bennet last Summer, but Tweed told me the date of the performance was a day later than it really was.

Jerry Rasmussen & I definitely have a scheduled meeting!(which neither of us shall miss "for the world"!)

I'm going anonymous on this one just because I don't want a sympathy vote but I really do find these 'who are your favourites' threads can leave you feeling a bit unloved when time after time you don't appear on anyones list! Its the same when you have gatherings and folk rave about how good certain people were and you are never there. Do we really need to single mudcatters out. I personally like meeting all and any of them. Some I may prefer not to meet again and others I will seek out at the first opportunity but I won't share that information so as not to cause offence!

Well, I've met Sorcha, Katlaughing, Rex, Bert, Jed Marum, Bill Sables, Allan C, The Shambles, and a couple of others. In every case I have enjoyed the experience, and found the Mudcatters to be as interesting and personable in the flesh as they are on the forum. Who would I like to meet? Catspaw, who did call me on the phone once. I think I said "Spaw, you old son of a bitch!" when he told me who it was, which only temporarily left him at a loss for words. Peter T, Jenellen, and Amos, who co-wrote some of the Mudcat fiction with me. Neil Lowe, who disappeared some time back, but was definitely a kindred spirit. Art Theime, who along with Sandy and Caroline, adds some authenticity to this place. Big Mick, to see if he wears his heart on his sleeve in real life the way he does here. mMario too.

Like many, I regret that Rick and I never met. I always thought we would. He was kind, funny and helpful, and he is badly missed.

You are soooo right, man! These pretentious pigs in the Mudcat Inner Clique think that they are sooo special! They have no time for people like you and me, but they go on and on sucking up to each other all the time, just because they know each other well. Boy, does that tick me off! I swore I would never post here again, but I just had to chime and say how much I agree with you. You must be a terrific person. We have got to get together some time and compare notes on all the assholes out there in various clubs and cliques who don't appreciate people like you and me as much as they ought to.

For instance, I have walked into any number of clubs in my city and attempted to strike up a witty conversation with the people there and establish an immediate level of equality. Well, I think you can guess what happens. They may talk to you, they may be superficially polite, but what you notice right away is...they spend a lot more time joking and carrying on with the people in their established inner clique. Selfish pigs! How dare they? I expect to be the life of the party the moment I walk through the door...even if I am among people who don't know me from shit, and you know why? Because I'm special! Just like you. We are so friggin special that they oughta know it. Right away. The fact that they don't proves they are jerks.

And the "in jokes"! How dare people who have known each other for years and years...how do they DARE make an in joke that I don't fully understand? Are they making fun of me??? I think so. It's deliberate. I hate them all.

I have never visited any group of people yet who treated me with the respect I deserve, and I bet you haven't either. Like I said, you must be a terrific person. Just naturally superior. Like me.

Sorry for any hurt feelings. That was not the intention, really. It's just that I like many others I'm sure, only know most or all Mudcatters by their posts. From the posts we have perceptions of the posters. Some are fun and humorouslike Spaw. Some are always contentious like Martin Gibson. Some are usually wise and sometimes profound like Little Hawk and McGrath of Harlow. I suspect a number would like to meet MG to see if he's really like that or just playing a game. Some people's posts are always interesting no matter what the topic. This was never meant to hurt any feelings. And yes it is hard to choose only one.

I was surprised that the good-hearted and always-reasonable Kevin McGrath of Harlow wasn't mentioned sooner, and glad to see a few others second the nomination after his name finally popped up.

Lemme be the first to name that true amateur, Roger the Skiffler. I have always been tickled by his enthusiasm at any opportunity to sit in with other performers to rattle his washboard. He doesn't seem to hang out here much anymore -- I think I read that he retired, and apparently he did most of his posting from work. A man after my own heart, in more ways than one!

Actually, I kinda like *not* meeting you characters, and just knowing you in your one-dimensional, text-only, on-line incarnations. I live far enough away from all of you that it does not take a conscious effort to avoid anyone, leaving me able to enjoy this forum as a "place" utterly separate from day-to-day reality.

Of course, if you come to New Orleans to perform, I *will* come out to see you. That's how I had my one-and-only real-life meeting with any Mudcatter, when Jed Marum played here a few weeks ago. (My house is small and currently overcrowded, with a grandbaby, a grown daughter, and her less-then-welcome boyfriend, so I can't offer any actual hospitality -- but I'll leave the house at the drop of a hat to meet with you!)

It would be nice to see my name (well, my pseudonym) get a mention, but what the hell; I refuse to feel hurt. After all, I don't do the chat room, I don't make the festival circuit or, indeed, make any effort to meet anyone in person. I have usually *tried* to avoid the "BS" section, although I've been spending too much time down here lately. I don't have a profile posted (although I do have a few photos available.) I don't even perform in public like I did as a youngster. I was pretty sick for a few months and didn't post a single thing from mid-February until late June, so I haven't been all that visible. What should I expect?

I'd like to think that my contribututions are occasionally informative and/or witty, but I realize that this doesn't make me much different from almost everyone else. There are *dozens* of names that, when I see them, I look forward to reading what they have to say. If I didn't believe that there were people out there similarly interested in what I have to say, I wouldn't bother paticipating -- but I do.

Chongo says he wants to meet you, JennyO.

By the way, there is a certain risk involved in meeting Catters in person. They may turn out to be very different from the mental image you have of them. It's like that with radio announcers too. For instance, I had this mental picture of Spaw as a grand old Southern gentleman, tall and trim, dignified, looking neat and distinguished like those pictures you see of retired Southern military officers after the Civil War. A regular Robert E. Lee or James Longstreet.

Well, then I saw some photos of him. Gaaaaah! What a shock. I was devastated. :-)

Don't feel bad, you. There are plenty of us not being 'fawned over'.

Get over it!

It's just like high school, just like life. Different people, faces, attitudes, 'in', 'out', 'cool', 'un-cool', easy, difficult, outgoing, shy. If I didn't ever get over that, I'd be a sorry, sad, lonely, resentful person. I know some of those.

Instead, I see the whole wide world of people to love. Most of 'em.

And on the Mudcat, we've all found at least ONE thing in common (if we stick around long enough), and some of us have found so much more. Now it's too late for me to name the names I would've, but suffice it to say there are people here I'm just pining to sing with, others I can't wait to argue about religion with, and some I just want to meet and hug, just for being who they are. What a privilege to get to know so many good people.

And I've grabbed every opportunity to meet Mudcatters in person. And I am sometimes surprised, sometimes know them so well that meeting in the flesh is superfluous. Some have changed my life in ways I could never have dreamed of.

Open your mind, and your heart.

Dani

The challenge here is I tend to think of Mudcatters in clusters and mostly of those I've already met on my travels from midcoast Maine. There are those nice folks in Sydney-AU, San Francisco-CA, Portland-OR, New York City-NY, and Portsmouth-NH. Mutcat has been a great resource to me for identifying people in such faraway places who enjoy the same kind of nautical music/drinking songs/Appalacian songs and outrageous parodies of the same as I indulge in.

However, Joe Offer gets special mention for his consistent efforts to keep this network going as well as being a fine person and singer. Amos, whom I've never met, gets special mention for his thoughtful posts, unusual quirky humor, occasional irate blasts and for a song collaboration or two. Naemanson gets special mention as a long time friend furthest removed to Guam, whose journal has kept our attention for over a year. And Guest Corridus, whom nobody's met, deserves mention for his exciting adventures; will he fall victim to commercial success? Only time will tell.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Stewie and Cathy -- in Darwin, NT, Oz.

He and I have been swapping some of the best from both our collections for a couple of years now. I wish I was energetic enough to get to that continent and spend about 20 years. His recitation of "Quasimodo" is pretty amazing. Could be that some day I'd actually be a bit closer to understanding what the dream time is--and is about.

Dear Bee-dubya-ell,

It really is most kind of you to mention me in this light! I must admit, over the past couple of months, my help has not been so much required as usual by the good people of Mudcat, not even by dearest Ebbie. This may, of course, be due to the current preoccupation with these new-fangled "slam book" threads although, as with most things that are "the rage" such a fashion will probably pass quickly. I am nevertheless, as always, on hand to assist my esteemed patients as and when required.

In fact the lull in work on the Mudcat has even allowed me to take a short break, which is always welcome. I was able to travel to the fair city of Naples where many of the Neapolitans were having considerable trouble with their mandolins, many of which are more than 100 years old (rather like myself)!

Let us hope that we shall meet up soon. I shall be most interested to examine Blondie pro bono and provide any therapy that might be necessary although I strongly suspect from her hansome appearance that none is required.

Yours most sincerely,

Dr. Guitar

I've usually ended up meeting Mudcatters, or getting to know them a bit better, because I was going to their part of the world, or we've convened at some music making event. It's been a pretty good way to do it. Sorry I haven't made it to the UK yet, but that's on the short list and I can hardly wait to meet folks and sing for hours with a real beer in my hand.

I do really want to meet Catspaw at some point, and he might even put Ohion on my destination list.

I've also always felt comfortable welcoming Mudcatters here at home, so if you want to see the leaves, eat good food and play or sing, you'll be on my "wanna meet" list.

(P.S. I've met, and spent time with several dozen Mudcatters, and I can't really remember having more than one or two political discussions while visiting with them in the 3D world. Mostly we laughted, had fun, and played and/or listened to music... and talked about the Mudcat.)

I hate this and wish I wasn't on anyone's list. I simply love meeting friends from various places. I love the comparison of who they are with who I thought they would be. I am so fascinated with the internet phenomenon of "old friends, as yet unmet". I want each of you to know that when I read your posts, I think about who you are and hope we get to meet. I can't think of a Mudcatter that I wouldn't like to meet. I think the thread is well intentioned, but I don't much care for lists. Too many fascinating folks to meet.

To those that bemoan not being on anyone's list, you are on mine. God willin' and the creek don't rise I will get to meet you.

And I would like to meet some of the UK cats that freda met, such as Micca, catspHiddle, Liz the Squeak, and heaps of others - in fact, any catters I haven't met - even Martin Gibson!

I just read "GUEST Hurt's post of Aug 12, and I have to sympathize. I used to post a lot (as a named guest), but I too was largely ignored. My "nobody wuvs me" feelings even inspired me to write a song and post it to the Mudcat Songbook. Anyway, it's difficult to pick just one Catter I'd like to meet. I would pick several:

Joe Offer, for encouraging me to stick around, despite being farted off most of the time.

Amos, because he complimented me on one of my seasonal contributions

Spaw, because he's funny as hell, and ...

Sorcha, who's posts I always enjoyed reading.

I will be hanging out once in awhile, just reading threads for amusement. Maybe one day, if a Mudcat get-together happens in my neck of the woods, I'll stop by.

Cheers

Is this your song, GUEST, 15 Oct 04 - 10:32 AM? If so, and based on the posting history of the person who contributed it to the song book, I'd say you gave up way too soon. Most of the time, most people don't get a response to their posts. That doesn't mean they (or you) are being ignored. In a forum context like this one, people don't get responded to much more often than they do, but that doesn't mean people aren't reading and enjoying their posts.

Guys, I have a secret to share: NObody gets as much attention as they want around here.

But, some of us get swept up in the energy of communicating and playing at the dance, rather than clinging to the wall paper and introverting about it...an approach which gets you nowhere, I think.

And just for the record, I never got any valentines in grade school either. Wahhhh.

I get occasional feedback on my comments within the threads where I post, and once in a while I get a nice PM from somebody, which has usually been more than enough "recognition" to satisfy me. And, of course, I know that that I appreciate many of the comments I read without reponding to each and every one to tell how much I enjoyed 'em. Who would?

I realize that I have *no* reason to expect any virtual "valentines" -- I don't participate in the chat room, I have no real-life contact with any other members, and I neither give nor receive much in the way of social contact through MC -- for me, it's just a vehicle for exchanging ideas and observations, generally on a fairly abstract level, so I have no business expecting much in the way of *personal* affirmation from my fellow members.

Despite all these valid insights, however, I've felt badly on a couple of occasions at not being mentioned in one of these BS "favorites" threads.

It never bothered me until earlier this year: After a couple months' absense while undergoing radiation treatment for a tumor in my neck, I logged back on after I began to recover, and almost immediately saw a thread entitled "Missing Mudcatters -- Where are they?" Like a fool, I assumed that somebody, somewhere, would have noticed that I hadn't been around for a while and would have said something. No way.

Once I felt that sting of disappointment once, I seem to have become a junky for personal recognition. Whereas I never before had wanted or expected to be mentioned in a discussion like this one, I suddenly felt a compunction to open every stupid discussion of personalities, to scroll through hoping to find some mention of myself, and then (of course) to feel bad -- albeit briefly -- upon coming up empty-handed.

Serves me right for venturing "below the line," and not sticking with those good old meat-and-potatoes music threads!

Getting to "know" someone over the internet is at least rougly determined by how often the person posts on the site. There are probably Catters I would love to meet, but have no real idea who they are because they post so infrequently. I'm sure that there are Guests I'd really enjoy meeting, but without a consistent moniker, it would be like meeting someone with fifty different personalities.

Of course, that doesn't mean that people who post most frequently are necessarily the ones we'd most like to meet. :-)

For what it's worth, when I was in 6th grade (I was eleven years old,) a girl in my class had a birthday party and invited everybody except me and another kid I knew. I felt pretty lousy when all the kids were talking about al lthe fun they had at the party. I had to console myself by telling them that I bet I had a lot more fun playing with my duck.

I think it's the combination of our fragile (or not so fragile) egos wishing to believe that we have affected others enough for them to remember us.

It's fascinating really. I love being only a name, and it was with great trepidation that I went to meet some mudcatters here in London.

I'm glad I did. If the few I met are a good indication of the general MC population, we are a varied and wonderous crowd.

Being "named" isn't what's important, friends, it's BEING.

I'm struck by our parallel paths. Mudcat seems full of people who, like me, never learned the kid-rules at school and have only vague ideas of how some social rules work even now. Shy, introverted, unpopular little kids who none-the-less came to be performers. A real contradiction there unless you look beneath the disguise. A teacher asked me why I was so miserable once, I think I was about 5, and I said I felt sick because I couldn't admit that no one liked me. I think it happened a lot because I remember being taken to a doctor. It was painful. We can still probe the sore spots, can't we?

It's such an important place here. We mean so much to each other. I'm so glad I came.
Jerry, I had a duck too. Never let me down. A true friend. Joy

"And Herbert was the terror of the local countryside

You can bet your bottom dollar, he hasn't met one yet."

As I said above long ago, there are WAY too many Mudcatters that I want to meet to name just one or 10 or 50. But now that I've been at one Getaway, my dream is that many, many more Mudcatters, who didn't make it this time, will come to the next one.

(In one large HEATED room)In addition to the lovely people who were at Getaway 2004- Picture it+-:

*Brucie
*Frank Hamilton
*Amos Jessup
*Rapaire
*Clinton Hammond
*Jed Marum
*Little Hawk (safer not to bring Blind Drunk in Blind River, though)
*CarolC and Jack the Sailor
*Seamus Kennedy
*Spaw
*Catsphiddle
*Sir jOhn from Hull
*Naemonson and Wakana
*Mark Cohen
*Oh, and Dr. Guitar. I MUST meet him; I have so many problems...

I have to stop- or I'll just have to do a copy and paste on the Mudcat Membership List. I do hope, though, to meet a lot more Catters at Getaway 2005; it was so wonderful meeting so many this year.

Sorcha, to thank for inviting me 7 years ago.
Bruce,Joe, carol, spaw and the usual gang of progressive antique musicians.
Being such a home body the only way I might meet some of you is if I opened the house up for a mudcat convention in Rockville MD.
The most that that could sleep inside would be about 25 but the grounds could accomodate 50 or in tents. Only 3 bathrooms so please no peeing in the hot tub or pool. As for food, volunteer cooks would be needed for breakfast and lunch but one dinner could be cattered for catters.
I could digitally photo the gang and assemble into a creative digital painting. You guys can sing and play (there is a nice Korg Triton piano here) and I'll join in on jazz cello, fiddle, mandolin or auto harp/I never learned to play the guitar. Needwood lake is 2 miles away by bike path and there is lots of streamside park right across the street for wandering minstrels.

Well reading through threads and posts over the last little while it has been growing on me that I would like to meet Alba. Her posts are always gentle, kind and loving. She sounds like such a nice person with a beautiful soul

Love Lynne

I agree Lynne, and one of these days we will lure her up to a song circle in South Portland. Either that or kidnap her on the way to the Getaway.

I fulfilled my 'if you could meet' in Portaferry 2 years ago. This year I'm hoping to meet bfdk (Bente) so I can say I've got a Danish friend... I like this international theme I have going here.

But I'm still a bit miserable at being on so few (if any) lists of people to meet.

Don't feel bad, Squeak. Part of it is that a lot of men are intimidated by intelligent, attractive women.

I have met many of you all and I can say everyone I have met is a gem.   I remember my first meeting with Liz and her gang. She prepared an absolute gourmet meal followed by and preceeded by port and brandy and wine and god knows what all plus a generous dose of Micca's philosophy (why is it people seem to get smarter to me when I drink? ...plus I seem to be an absolute genious when I hear myself talk too!)   Liz kindly walked me back to the tube station where I promptly got on the westbound train and had a delightful 1 hour nap before reviving in west London just in time to get my stop! People, If you are ever fortunate enough to get a dinner invitation from Liz, YOU BETTER KEEP IT! she is the best!

Jimmyt, thinking of you riding back on the tube, reviving in West London, after what sounds like a delightful evening with LTS, makes me smile.

For all of you who stated a desire to meet gargoyle in person (because of his refreshingly cynical attitude and unique talent for personal attacks), I just wanted to point out that he's predicting the death of one of the Mudcat "regulars" in 2007, over on the "Farewell Farewell" Thread. Here's a guy who bitches eternally about the non-music BS here, and makes the only BS post to a music thread. What a cut-up.
Personally, I like him right where he is. Way out there on the fringes of this site.

I've decided I would like to meet all Mudcat personnel apart from people who take the piss, disagree with me and criticize me in any way.
Well, that about covers it.
Lots of love to everybody from Charlie.
PS I wouldn't want to meet any of you who lack a sense of humour.

I will be meeting a fair few of the mudcatters I talk to on chat at portaferry weekend (soon - yipee!).

I have a long list of mudcatters I would like to meet. I cannot possibly reduce it to one, therefore in no particular order I would like to meet (not including the ones I will be anyway very very soon)
are:

Alice - because of our good chats
Capriuni - also because of our good chats
Little Hawk - for a spiritual conversation - I think!
Kendall - for his good humour
Jacqui C - because she tells it her way and well.
Severn - to challenge him with his puns.

Sorry - I could not get it down to just one.

I'd like to meet a lot of you. I can't choose, and so many of you are far, far away. Nevertheless, in case of travelling 'Cats, I plan to stick a little Mudcat sign at my campsites at festivals from now on.

I met Bruce Hutton yesterday. He performs with Hesperes and plays virtually every folk instrument ever made.
When I asked him if he knew of mudcat he said he uses the lyric data base here often.

He has a concert this Saturday and is also doing the music for Buster Keaton's silent films for the Library of Congress for the National Film Registry.

How about 'if you could meet one Mudcatter again, who would it be?'.

Of all those who actually met their 'one', who would you like to spend time with again??

My Dear Little Hawk,

It seems so long since my services have been required here!

I would most certainly like to meet you too for your unique and spiritual views that please this old healer. And, as surely as day follows night, we will meet one day!

And of course my longest-serving and values patient, dearest Ebbie! I do so fear that she has lapsed into looking at those jazz guitar chord sites that she was so warned to avoid.

Remaining always at the service of those who need my advice and help (needy cases always pro bono of course).

Yours most sincerely,

Dr. Guitar

It is hard to limit it to just one. I want to meet Bobert, Donuel, and Little Hawk. Also, as is more likely in the short run, Bill D (from a recent comment in the "hobby" thread). I think I MUST go to the FSGW Getaway next year. I think I might meet quite a few there.

Unlikely that I will achieve this but a small ambition can't be harmful

I've hesitated to chip in here, because picking someone overlooks countless others. I'd just like to add that I had the pleasure of meeting several Catters over the last couple of years who would definitely be on my "Must Meet" list: jimmyt, Leadfingers, Bill D (although I really didn't have much of a chance to talk with him) Bobert, ColK, Formerly of Sussex Carole, and those I meet annually at NOMAD. Beyond that, I'd just like to say that the one Mudcatter I'd really like to meet is the next one. And thanks to those who mentioned me... the feeling is mutual.

Jerry
