Folklore: Kemps nine daies wonder

I was searching through some old stuff and came across my hard copy of this.

It is the story, in Will Kemps own words, of his morris dance from London to Norwich in the year 1600. A must for any Ren Faire folks:-)

A good read to boot although it is a bit difficult to ge to grips with at times being in old English.

Enjoy

Thanks Dave,

I have a copy of this too. It is an interesting read,I like the description of his dancing with the Country Lasse.

I agree, Definitely worth a read by current morris dancers, I don't know what Kemp would make of some us today though.

(A pedant speaks:) that is Middle English (like Chaucer). For old English, try reading Beowulf...

Nice link though, worth a read.

Treewind

To be completely pedantic, it's Early Modern English (like Shakespeare) not Middle English (like Chaucer).

BTW I pointed to an online version of Kemp's book in this thread but the link now seems to have died.

I once turned up at a folk club (in Nettlebed many years ago, to hear Maddie Prior) wearing a T shirt from Leigh-on-Sea Round table, celebrating Kemp's Jig.

Of course, Rick Kemp was there - and he also comes from Leigh-On-Sea!
Small world. (Or maybe he was related?)
