In a sense that is the reverse of the truth. Posts that people dashed off in a hurry years ago, and maybe wish they hadn't, are still there for all the world to read, websites set up by people who have forgotten all about them, or died for that matter, are still out there on the net... It's a bit like the Recording Angel: The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ, Moves on; nor all your Piety nor Wit Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line, Nor all your Tears wash out a Word of it. ............................. Now if Max had been really mean he'd have left out the giveaway stuff about the police raid and so forth, and he'd have just said something like: "The Mudcat has got too much for me to keep maintaining it. Even aside from the financial headaches it gives me, I'm fed up with all the griping and sniping, so I'm pulling out. Maybe some of the people who have been doing that stuff might like to take on the responsibility, and run Mudcat II the way they think I should have been running it. Goodbye, and over to you." I think people would have believed that, and wouldn't have blamed him. I hate to think that some time we might see something like that for real. And like kat, I'm grateful to Max for not doing it. |
