BS: Appreciation for what we thought we'd lost

Thanks to Max for creating Mudcat and continuing with it despite the utter inanity of some. It is deeply appreciated.

A world without Mudcat...some were here on that momentous day when we thought we'd lost it forever: Mudcat is Closing Its Doors.

Did you miss the point that the therad you linked to was a stupid April Fools joke?

"A world without Mudcat"?

There's nothing more ephemeral than the internet...

Seems to me this 'thread' should have been a PM to Max...

The first few posts were VERY sobering. And I don't drink.

Well, it was a plausible scenario at the time, given the RIAA's ... zeal. :>

Thanks, Max and everyone, for keeping this going. I've visited on and off, but always relied on the good old 'cat being there. :)

Sobering for brucie, I'm sure. Apparently he is substituting his Mudcat addiction for his meds today.

CH, duh, of COURSE I knew that. I was hoping some who weren't here then might read it and gain a better understanding of how dear this place is...maybe appreciating it more will help with civility and meaningful discussion. Then, again, as you say, it's only the internet, so why care...

There's nothing more ephemeral than the internet...

In a sense that is the reverse of the truth. Posts that people dashed off in a hurry years ago, and maybe wish they hadn't, are still there for all the world to read, websites set up by people who have forgotten all about them, or died for that matter, are still out there on the net...

It's a bit like the Recording Angel:

The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on; nor all your Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all your Tears wash out a Word of it.

.............................

Now if Max had been really mean he'd have left out the giveaway stuff about the police raid and so forth, and he'd have just said something like:

"The Mudcat has got too much for me to keep maintaining it. Even aside from the financial headaches it gives me, I'm fed up with all the griping and sniping, so I'm pulling out.

Maybe some of the people who have been doing that stuff might like to take on the responsibility, and run Mudcat II the way they think I should have been running it. Goodbye, and over to you."

I think people would have believed that, and wouldn't have blamed him. I hate to think that some time we might see something like that for real. And like kat, I'm grateful to Max for not doing it.

Kat, BIG thanks and a tip of the hat for bringing this back to the fore. Your voice here has been missed!

WYSIWYG,
Missing katlaughing? You have to stay out of the communion wine. Kat hasn't been missing. She's been posting, PMing, and even telephoning for last few months.
Have you confused your kitties?

She's posted a lot less than she used to. I miss her leadership.
