Well it's been a long time between drinks hasn't it?

Drink up, the bar won't be open for long.

Certainly one to celebrate as such victories have been so rare. I still don't believe we are up there to beat oz over a series of tests or one dayers but this victory has to be encouraging.

totally stunned by Micheal Vaughans amazing spin bowling I should think. :)

It was a very good match and Englands batting held up very well.

Looks like it's going to be an England V Windies Final on Saturday. Hope Windies can pull it back and make up for a dismal Winter & Summer.

Well the Windies seem to have a revitalised bowling attack to dismiss Pakistan so cheaply. Should be a good match.

England will be strong favourites against the Windies, they look likely winners.

I suspect England will win and as as an Englishman this is good! But I have memories of seeing the Windies playing England when they still had guys like Richards, Ambrose and Walsh in the side (I was a kid at the time) and I do rather hanker for the days when they were the most breathtakingly entertaining team on the planet!

You must be very young Bouzouki Boy! The first cricket match I ever went to (about age 11) was a charity match played in Hull. A local firm (Fenners) used to get a team to play Yorkshire, and my brother was collecting autographs. One of the autographs he got that day was of a young lad who was playing in the Lancashire League. Garfield Sobers!

I will buy Mr Uppett a small sherry by way of compensation if England win.

What a match, thrilling game, I never thought the Windies would win it, Brown and Bradshaw two Windies heroes they will go down in West Indian folklore.

What a match!

The happiest person was Collymore - for he didn't have to go in to bat.

It all truth he should have had to - as Flintoff had a perfectly good lbw shout turned down. Probably because it was too dark for the umpire to see it.................

The English team did not make enough runs but were unlucky as they did do the hard bit. Who would have thought that Brown and Bradshaw would be able to stay in when the rest of the team (and the better batsmen) could not?

Once again England snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Well done the Windies, but they shouldn't have won really!

Wish I'd have watched it but was involved in other things much of today (including unfortunaltey listening to Norwich get a 3-0 thrashing while trying to sort some stuff for outside - managed to fix a Calor Gas heater we had been given but with a blocked pilot light so its not all bad...).

Congratulations to WI.

I take it that is our Delia not Ms Smith who we named her after... Our Delia can be found here as we first found her as a stray and here after we got her to some health. Wonder if the NC chairperson would approve with her namesake.

OT and FWIW, here are the results from last night of what I was trying yesterday while missing the cricket. It's an old pig sty. Nothing brilliant but considering at the moment I often have to get my 69 yr old mother to sit with me to keep me calm in the mornings, sometimes have attacks which involve being sick, and have not made even a music session in a month... I feel quite proud of getting through this small achievement - a nice little den to escape the computer and everything else.

In my honest opinion, If you can't bowl 9,10,jack out - you are crap.

How the hell you can let the tailenders at test match level get so many runs in very bad light conditions - it beggars belief.

Congratulation Windies, but exciting for an English supporter not - England did not do their job and need a good old rollocking for failing.

They have proved that they still have a lot of work to do. However they are an awful lot better nowadays, so hopefully over the next couple of years we will be the dominant world team.

Contests are exciting. Watching a one-sided demolition job (by your team) on a lesser opponent may make you feel better but it is hardly an exciting contest.

The one-day game can go either way. There were two teams in this final trying their very best and the bowling and fielding (especially the catching) in those conditions were really good. Credit is due to the W Indies team for winning an exciting contest.

With hindsight - knowing that these two batsmen would survive all the attacking from the best bowlers - a less attacking option may have increased the pressure upon them to play more risky shots. If they had gotten behind the required rate - who knows what would have happened. But the tactics were the right ones I think - the batsmen just deserve all the credit for the fact that these tacics did not work.

WAY HAY Well done Windies I knew you could do it, memories of the World Cup Semi Final back in the 70's When Murry & Roberts put on a last wicket stand to beat Pakistan and then there was that famous Gillete cup bash in the dark at Old Trafford when Lancashire scrambled home in the dark against Warwickshire, they held up the 9 oclock news till it finished. Anyone remember those games.

I thought I had vague memories of one of those and David Huges smacking the ball but on checking here it would appear the match I was thinking of was against Gloucester.
