BS: When Bush loses, who will he blame?

23 Sep 04 - 11:53 PM (#1279598)
Subject: BS: When Bush loses, who will he blame?
From: Ron Davies

As Michael Moore has pointed out, it could easily happen.

1) Not even all veterans will support Bush.

From the Wall St. Journal-- in Pennsylvania--guy wearing a red Marines cap pinned with a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. "A big-city journalist too familiar with stereotypes blurted: 'Guess we know where you stand'. (The Marine) has been shot at, at lot. He is voting for John Kerry. Why? Because John Kerry was over there in the middle of it. The other guy never was."

As a veteran (and not a Democrat, by the way)-- I feel similarly--though in my case it's only one of a huge string of reasons to want Bush out. But if the Swift Boat Veterans for Revenge--- (or Confusion or something like that---"Truth" is way down their list of priorities)--- or other Bushites insist on fighting the Vietnam War yet again-----that's the obvious answer----Where Was Your Guy?

"Memo-gate" --or whatever you choose to call it-- is yet another smokescreen--regardless of the authenticity of "That Memo" the fact remains, as other posters have pointed out, that Bush was (and is?) a spoiled rich kid who got all sorts of preferential treatment. We'll probably never find out how much.

It's no wonder Bearded Bruce doesn't like Freda's jokes--as often happens there's a kernel of truth--and he doesn't like that.

2) Young people, by and large, especially college-age, do not appear to be Bush supporters. As somebody (Katlaughing?) has noted, they also are very likely being undercounted in every poll. Even a sizable portion of the enlisted military-- and their families--- is unhappy with the increasingly open-ended nature of the Iraq conflict,---- and the correspondingly open-ended requirements of them. There may well be a sizable
Kerry vote there.

3)   As Michael Moore notes, the polls are all over the map--depending in large part on how many of each party are in a particular sample. Polls are usually by phone--that in itself makes them questionable. If you want to play polls, how about the old question.? According to the Journal today, 36% think the economy has gone downhill in the past year--vs 29% who think it's improved. Remember 1992.

4) Demographics--According to the Journal 30 Aug "if all demographic groups split their votes this fall as they did in 2000, the Bush team estimates Mr. Bush would finish with 3 million fewer votes than Democratic candidate John Kerry" (as opposed to 500,000 vs Gore in 2000).   Hispanics are by far the fastest growing minority, and may well (aside from the anti-Cuba vote in Florida) vote Democratic. The general perception is: Republicans--big business, the Democrats -- FDR and Cesar Chavez.

5) Kerry can turn it around himself. On the Iraq question he can say :

"Yes, I voted for the authorization to give the President power to wage war in Iraq is he thought it absolutely necessary. I trusted Mr. Bush to make the right decision and only go to war as a last resort"

"I was wrong to trust him to make the right decision. I will not trust him again.

"You should not either."

6) There is in fact a long list of people who would want to oppose Bush for specific reasons:

Any woman concerned about abortion rights

Anybody for whom the environment is a major concern

Anybody who wants a rise in the minimum wage

Anybody not looking forward to the more unilateral pre-emptive strikes on the enemy du jour

Blacks and anybody else infuriated by the blatant despicable Bushite maneuvers in Florida in 2000 which kept many blacks from voting since they were falsely listed as felons.

Anybody who's unhappy about the fact that in this "recovery", the rich have lop-sidedly enjoyed the benefits ( per the Wall St Journal). Perhaps it's not reasonable to expect Bushites in the upper 10% of income to care about anything but themselves, but the vast majority of the electorate are below that.

Anybody who's tired of having his or her patriotism impugned for "trying to bring down a commander in chief in a time of war." War against terrorism. So no criticism of the president until the war on terrorism ends?

I don't think so.

There are other groups who would be against Bush but this is getting long.

As Michael Moore says, it's not only self-defeating but absurd to give up now just because Kerry is not Sir Galahad or JFK or whoever.

The Bushites will have their supporters for their "Sanctity of Marriage" amendment taken to the polls, as well as the Toby Keith -- "when Uncle Sam puts your name at the top of his list..." brigade.

But there are easily enough who oppose Bush policies to make Mr. Bush a private citizen in Connecticut, the ancestral home--or Texas or wherever.

It's not France in 1940--more like the US in April 1864 or maybe October 1948.

In 2004 it's still all about turnout and pulling the right lever, as it always was.

Bush will have any number of scapegoats when he loses.

Obviously I'm putting Kerry in Lincoln's and Truman's roles as in a surprising comeback, though he's obviously not the incumbent.

He knows he will win. Little crisis ten days before the election and he is in. He won't have to blame anyone. Calling more military to 'settle' the population; fighter-interceptors over the cities; troops in the streets; restricted travel and communications breakdown--no, Ron, he won't have to blame anyone. Democracy is being dealt a kick in the groin, and there is little people are willing to do about it. Too bad. Too bad to witness the death of Democracy.

The point is that it's incredibly foolish to resign yourself now that he will pull a manufactured "emergency", and therefore there's no reason to oppose him--that will not only be a self-fulfilling prophecy but will let him walk in totally legally, without needing the "emergency". I would hope you're not for that.

Not just Diebold but the other company selling these machines owned by the other Repub brother of Diebold's CEO. I bvelieve the company is E.S.S. but don't have my fingers on the eact name at this point in time.

Either way, Diebold's COE has promised to deliver the goods and given the fact that there will be no paper trail, it shouldn't be hard to do.

Did you hear Rumsfeld talking about elections in Iraq yesterday? "So what if a few folks can't vote, most of them can" was in essence what he said. It's so easy for him to dismiss those trouble spots, isn't it? To the Bush folks it isn't a big deal if you miss a few votes in Iraq (or here in the U.S. . .).

He'll blame it on the *wrong tracks*

George W. Bush: "Secondly, I saw a poll that said the right track/wrong track in Iraq was better than here in America. It was pretty darn strong. I mean, the people see a better future." (George W. Bush Remarks at Rose Garden Press Conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi (Washington, D.C.), 9/23/04)

Guest Bushwa: Today is election day. When was the last minute crisis you referred to in an earlier post? As a matter of fact, Mudcatters have been predicting such an event for months! "Osama will be killed immediatly prior to the election ..., the WMD will be found immediately prior to the election!"

Neither happened. So what happened?

If Bush loses he could blame a lot of things and folks. Michael Moore, Osama Bin Laden, the mainstream media (particularly CBS and The "Exalted" New York Times," too many to list.

When (not if) Bush loses, he can blame whoever he wants -- the credit will lie with the American people, who are standing for hours in the rain and other bad weather to vote him out of office.

In truth, he has no one to blame but Karl Rove, but that won't happen.

One good thing about this election that just may cancel out the Diebold effect, which has been worrying me: a large percentage of people vote ahead of election day: the military, absentee voters, those who won't be able to vote on the actual day, handicapped voters, etc. They all use paper ballots, so their votes will be validated by a count, and a recount will be possible if necessary.

Most of the Diebold machines infamously don't leave a paper trail, so verification isn't possible, and as blackboxvoting.org has stated, the software can be manipulated to change the vote.

But if all voting by non-electronic methods show a trend toward Kerry, and ONLY the electronic votes show Bush as the winner, I think that provides sufficient grounds to challenge.

Voting is quite brisk in Maine today. I think we're well on the way to setting a record for a General Election in this small state.

I'm confident Bush won't blame anyone, I heard him say to day that "We both worked hard, its in the hands of the people." I think that If he loses, and I think right now that there is a 65% chance that he will, he will congratulate President elect Kerry and say that both sides fought a tough campaign and the people made their choice. He may explain that by saying, new voters and the youth vote made the difference.

I think he'll be a good sport. I'm confident that Rove and Cheney will not be.
