Depends on whose freezer it is, I guess. I think it would be illegal in a lot of cases.

Is that what the mafia calls "putting someone on ice"?

However, it's less stupid than putting dead people in an oven. Or a toilet.

is this a general thing in America. have they all got granny in a freezer in the garage. No wonder they have big fridges. The thing is they have big families too. I remember they described the Oklahoma bomber as 8th generation Irish. Nobody in England (apart from Prince Charles) knows what their families were doing last week, let alone 8 generation ago.

jOhn..at least if you put a dead body in your freezer it won't putrify and start to smell so I think it is a good idea. So good it should be made law! When you kill your wife(Or your husband) or anybody else for that matter..it should be law to put them in the freezer. That way the Police would have no trouble finding the body when it's reported missing. The only problem I can see is if the dead person had been the bread winner..so to speak...what would the person who killed them eat????
Best wishes.

YOU'RE ALWAYS WELCOME AT OUR HOUSE

Well, a man came to our house
Our house
Our house
A man came to our our house
To sell some brooms.
So we asked him to come in,
And we hit him with a hammer,
And we put him in the closet
In my father's room.

But you're always welcome at our house
Any time of the day.
Yes,
You're always welcome at our house,
And we hope you will stay.

Then a lady came to our house
Our house
Our house
A lady came to find out why I wasn't in school.
So we asked her to come in,
And we gave her poisoned lemonade,
And we stuck her in the freezer
Where it's nice and cool.

But you're always welcome in our house.
Any time of the day.
Yes,
You're always welcome at our house,
And we hope you will stay.

Then a kid came into our yard
Our yard
Our yard
A kid came into our yard to get his ball.
We asked him to come in,
And we shot him with a .22
And we sealed him up inside
The basement wall.

But you're always welcome in our house.
Any time of the day.
Yes,
You're always welcome at our house,
And we hope you will stay.

So when you come to our house
Our house
Our house
When you come to our house,
We'll have some fun.
We'll ask you to come in,
And we'll take you to the kitchen,
And we'll put you in the oven
Until you're done.

But you're always welcome in our house.
Any time of the day.
Yes,
You're always welcome at our house,
And we KNOW you will stay.

---As I remember The Clancys singing Shel Silverstein's poem.

And we know you will stay.

I know of a woman who keeps her dead parakeet in the freezer so that she can take it out and look at it. Just couldn't bring herself to bury it or throw it in the trash.

jOhn,
Has anyone left a dead body on your doorstep ala the dead kitty? This time you need to call the police. Do NOT put it in the freezer.

The last big story here in the States on cryonics involved a baseball player whose son had him (or was it his head?) frozen and was offering Dad to the highest bidder for display and/or cloning or some such nonsense. A sister stopped the sale with a lawsuit. Anyone know what I am babbling about?

I remember a show on TV where a guy killed his wife (I think) and cut her body up into meal sized portions - roasts etc - and froze all the pieces in a large chest freezer. I seem to remember that people thought she had gone on holidays. Eventually somebody got suspicious and the police called round. The final scene showed him inviting them to stay for dinner, and serving up a roast (his wife of course) and the policeman commenting on how delicious the dinner was. I can't remember what the show was exactly, but I suspect it was either the Twilight Zone, or Tales of the Unexpected. Anyone remember it?

Then there was an episode of "The Practice" where somebody found a human head in a freezer.

Then of course, there is that verse in the Irish Ballad:

One day when she had nothing to do
Sing rickety tickety tin
One day when she had nothing to do
She cut her baby brother in two
And served him up as an Irish stew
And invited the neighbours in, -bours in
And invited the neighbours in.

It was Tales of The Unexpected, and was the other way round, ie woman killed her husband, [hit him over the head with frozen leg of lamb], no prosecution, as there was no evidence left!
It was adapted from the book by Roald Dahl.

Thanks jOhn. It does seem like a Roald Dahl sort of twisted tale - I like those. And your memory is obviously better than mine about the details. It was quite a few years ago that I saw it. Now that you mention the frozen leg of lamb, it is starting to come back to me.

The lamb is starting to come back to you? Have you seen a doctor?

EP, what I love about that website (and the Alcor Corp.) is that they don't deal with dead people -- they deal with "patients". Like they are going to cure them and the patients are going to pop right up and dance a jig.

As the gambler said, "Eight to three he don't come back."

Before we moved to our own house we were in rented accomodation. My wife Jade had two guinea pigs. Mo the older died before the move. So into the freezer he went until he could be buried in our garden at the new place.

Jade carefully wrapped him and put him in a large brown envelope marked in Chinese on the outside 'Do NOT eat' just in case her parents thought we had stocked something special in the freezer.

Now he is pushing up the fig tree in our garden.

I don't see the attraction in cryogenics- you get frozen, and two hundred years down the line you wake up (with really bad frostbite, no doubt) only to realise that the all savings in your bank account could buy you a cup of coffee if you're lucky, everyones walking around butt naked, robots have taken over Venezuala, all your friends are dead and everyone's grown alien appendages on their foreheads. No, thanks, i think i'd prefer cremation....

Wouldn't it be more sensible to dispose of your murdered spouse by dumping them somewhere far, far, away and claiming they had run off with the milkman / a ballet dancer? Not that i'd know, of course! :) *laughs nervously and sweeps room with shifty glance*

Subject: RE: BS: Putting Dead People in the Freezer.
From: Rapparee

Cryogenics seems to me to be sort of the ultimate in selfishness (well, maybe not the ultimate, but right up near the top). In the (in my opinion) vain hope that someday you'll be thawed out and as good as new you use up resources, time, and people to keep your most-likely-dead carcass frozen. Just because your body is flash-frozen doesn't mean that you're not dead.

Hardy had it right when he wrote, "...for you are men, and rest eternal sorely need."

There's the old joke about the epitaphs:

For her birthday, he bought her a tombstone with the epitaph, "Here lies Maude. Still frigid."

For HIS birthday, she bought one that read, "Here lies Hank. Finally stiff."

Don't get me started -- I know lots and lots and lots of jokes and puns about this subject. I used to make and set tombstones, and my brother did that AND was once a gravedigger. (We can even answer Hamlet's question, "How long must a man lie in the earth ere he rot?")

I'm all for Cryogenics, IF it had a hope in hell of working without SERIOUS nano-technology... Ya ever seen what happens to a corpse that has been frozen solid and then thawed? It turns to goo... Every cell is ruptured and there's nothing to hold all the 'stuff' in... One would need nano-tech to fix that before you could even consider thawing a cryo-suspension...

Me, I'd be happy walking under a Vanilla Sky... At least until they had the nano-thing sorted out

I've always that that if I ever shuffle off this mortal coil I should be encased in plastic, like those biological specimens in high school bio labs, and a big lift eye put into the top. Then I could be "buried" standing up, all the while making a Very Rude Gesture. In the future, if anyone cared to see what I looked like, they could pull me up and not only fulfill their curiousity, but learn what I thought of them as well.

It must be a slow day around here when I access such an inane thread.

But it does remind me of this favorite old limerick:

There was a young widow named Brice,
Who kept her dead husband on ice;
She said, "T'was hard when I lost him,
I'll never defrost him;
Cold comfort but cheap at the price."

I second Shanhaiceltic advice about appropriate labeling of whatever you stuff in the freezer. My favorite case in point was the home birth afterbirth that was wrapped in brown paper and stuffed into the freezer at my old housing co-op in Lansing, Michigan, back in 1977. Garnet Rogers should still remember the time he was a guest at our house and was served a wonderful meat casserole by our new resident cook, and the alarming discussion of where the meat came from...I think the "placenta helper" was finally buried in the back yard.

Have a nice day,

Become a vegetarian. You can always assume anything in the freezer is edible, even if you can't quite figure out what it is...

You'd never guess it was a sir jOhn thread from the title.

Well, if you don't put them somewhere they're going to spoil.

Bodies take up lots of space. Where will you put the rest of the food?

It's a damn shame that Sir jOhn from Hull posts so seldom here these days. His mastery of the English language is a testament to his good breeding, wit, and impeccable elucidatarientaciousness.

Yes, LH... he's a hoot and a half! Tremendous wit and use of the "language" to make his points.

john on the sunset coast,
it seems you have experiance at this. which bits are the best and apart from the obvious are there any cuts of people to avoid, too tough maybe?
being very short as i am though not quite a dwarf i can say it has it's uses, for example, moving through crowds, people don't see you but feel your' elbow in the ribs if they don't move. lol
however if you put a larger head on a smaller body wouldn't it keep sagging forwards? what a bugger!!

True story...

Back in 1986, when I was still married to my ex-wife, the company she worked for hired a new manager from out of town. When he moved to town he found a great deal on a rental house. Within a few days of moving in, his young daughters were bringing neighborhood kids home for afternoon visits. He found this a bit unusual since his kids were not particularly outgoing, so he cornered one of them and asked why they had suddenly become so popular. It turned out that the house they were renting for peanuts had recently been the site of a locally notorious murder. The previous occupant had murdered his wife and stuffed her body in a freezer.

Archived news story about the murder case HERE.
