Several people on the Banbury thread have mentioned Bedworth so.....who's going?? Are there enough for another good gather?

I'll be there too, not quite sure what duties yet. But if it's anything like the last two Bedworths it'll be a grand weekend to see the festival season out on a high note.
A Gather would be wonderful - but finding a suitable venue this year might be difficult especially if Malc's still frantically trying to sort venues for the official events!

Am sure that Malc will be itching to have an official MudGather as he was there at the Banbury one & saw how successful it was. But nothing officially programmed in for this year, maybe next???

Oh, I dont' know MGAS, windup (most likely) or not, it brings the thread up the list... Has to be A Good Thing.

"Adrian Slump", or "Harry Monk" (weren't they a defunct/bankrupt band? from mid-Wales or the South of England, I forget), anonymous slagging is like voyerism - only satisfactory to certain people. I know loving oneself is a good thing, but don't take it to extremes.

MBS is flaming - MBS (as opposed to Lynne and George) is not even a Mudcat member, at least not under that cookie (I checked), so can't be PM'd.

As El Greko has pointed out, refreshing the thread (even irrelevantly) gets it back to the top.

I'm not fully up to date with the venue problem - I know there is one, because Malc heard in August that the rebuilding work at the Civic Centre won't be finished in time for the festival - but would it be feasible for Catters to gather in the White Swan?

Hi,
Just butting in to the thread to say - want a Catters Meet then I'll find you a venue!
Just also to let you all know that the current situation with venues is: Civic Hall refurbishment will not be finished in time (only the main hall will be available so the Craft fair and Ceilidh will be going on in there) Arts Centre next door will be OK so Voices will be there as usual and all the day/evening concerts on saturday, plus we will be using the Arts Centre friday evening. We have the very plush Liberal Club for concerts all day saturday "The All Day Folk Cabaret" with all the main guests appearing during the day (also cheap beer and catering facilities) - fridays main concert will be in the Conservative club, and the Ceilidh in the Ex-Servicemans Club (sorry we can't keep complete political impartiality as the Labour Club has closed down!) We are also using the Fire Station Social club friday/saturday and sunday, a nice room that holds about 60 people and beer at £1.40 a pint and just a few paces from the indoor camping! Childrens events will be in the Methodist Church Hall (opposite the White Swan)- Needless to say the White Swan will remain a hive of activity over the week-end with song and music sessions plus the upstairs clubroom. All venues are within 100 yards or so of the Civic Hall. We are starting to build up the info on the web site but as you can imagine it's been very difficult sorting out venues at this late stage.
Also in reply to "Are there any tickets left" - the use of the new venues has given us the ability to greatly increase capacity and far better concert facilities so we can up our ticket numbers, otherwise we'd be getting close to capacity now.
Sorry to go on - I must be getting excited!!
Malc.

Someone said that Bedworth is not 'the prettiest of towns' (or words to that effect). I wonder if the fact that the festival takes place in the winter doesn't help? No town is at its best in December.
For what it's worth, Bedworth reminded me a lot of Crewe - and, rest assured, that's a compliment. (Crewe is another much-maligned town which many people do not bother to look at too closely.)
And I seem to recall passing a truly delightful spot in Bedworth not far from the town centre with some wonderful old buildings.
From memory, I think they were almshouses or something of the sort.

Dave,

You're right about Bedworth and Crewe - both honest-to-goodness hardworking towns with no frills.

The Nicholas Chamberlain almshouses in the centre of town were given by an old Bedworth lad who became Lord Mayor of London a long time ago.

Subject: RE: Bedworth
From: George Papavgeris

MBSLynne, re your suggestion for a Mudgather without singing, just for meeting/chat: I don't see that as necessary, certainly not as something the Festival should schedule. An organised "meet and greet" takes valuable time from the festival schedule, and with many Catters already knowing each other, it would only benefit few.

The Catters singaround serves as a way to not only put faces to handles, but also to hear each other sing or play. If Catters meet at the singaround, they can then step outside for a chat in twos/threes/etc, or agree to have lunch or a drink together, or something like that.

I'll certainly join one, if it's arranged, provided it does not clash with my schedule on the festival programme.

It would also be nice to have instrumentalist Catters joining, not just singers, for a nice mixed session. (Someone else already said that, I am just repeating it).

And we need one of us to step up and take it on. MGAS did a grand job at Banbury, but she might want to sit back and relax this time. Volunteers/suggestions?

Subject: RE: Bedworth
From: My guru always said

So sensitive El Greko! It would be nice to sit back & enjoy, though running the Banbury MudGather was a pleasure apart from having that cold!

If no-one else steps up I'll take the reins again, so I guess the answer is 'Yes please Malc, Saturday teatime sounds just right!!' We can works things out between us over the next few weeks & I'll bring the Blow-up Cat. Anyone got any choccies????

Agree it would be good to have more of a 'mixed session' with more instrumentalists, are we really predominantly singers?

Subject: RE: Bedworth
From: GUEST,Noreen

To try and combine the 'getting to know' bit with singing together, how about each catter introducing themselves before their bit, perhaps saying where they're from or whatever? That gives others a handle for a chat later when time allows. I liked seeing all the 'new' catters at the Banbury meet, but would have liked to know who they were!

Just a line to say the Mudcatters Meet is now programmed in for 4.15pm to 6pm in the (very nice)upstairs room of The White Horse, a new venue for the festival just a few yards from The White Swan, so it's easy to find! The venue will also host the Folk Club session from Noon to 4pm. The pub will also welcome singing in music in the spacious downstairs lounge throughout the week-end.
We are at last able to start shaping the events list and running order (as we've got some venues to put the events in now!) and hope to have the working programme on the web site by sunday evening - click here for link. I've assumed Kitty & Hilary will play the hostesses with the mostesses from what they've been saying, and the festival will provide a box of choccies to get you going (although we might eat the purple ones first!)
Cheers!
Malc.

I have something to lure Morticia away from the purple ones....
When I strained off the strawberry vodka I started during the summer, I was left with a load of vodka soaked strawberries, so I chopped a few of them up, melted some Green & Blacks, mixed them together and left it to set. The result is......well........beyond words! So..I still have a lot of the strawberries left. Being soaked in alcohol they should keep ok until Bedworth, so I will make a load of this wonderful chocolate thingy and bring it with me. How's that??

I hope to be there for the first half hour - then I have other commitments.

Perhaps we could also have a Friday evening session somewhere, for the early arrivals? On the other hand two Mudcat sessions might be too much for any festival!

When you're feeling down, the best way up is chocolate.... the chocolates with crunchy celery centres, provided by Lynne at yesterday's Mudcat gather, were really rather good. As was the singing.

Many thanks to Malc for programming the session, to Morty for doing most of the work running it, to Madcat and Piddling Pete for realising that other people's fingers would do the walking for Jack to keep the singing going. And to everyone who sang, and/or brought chocolate.

Bedduth, The Day After: – I drove back from the Festival with a song in my heart. Bedworth was SO fantastic – the asbestos threat rendered the Civic Hall unusable, the rail-less steps were a mountaineering challenge and the one-way system around the town must have been designed by a sadist – and yet whatever obstacles they faced, the organisers kept smiling!
Thanks, Malc, for all your unflappable and efficient gaffership. It rubbed off on the punters, too – there was an overwhelming ambience and feeling of general goodwill to all persons.
Sorry about my persistent cough – I've been sucking Vocalzones until I'm blue in the face. Pat Spoons and Splott Man both picked up colds in the past week and I didn't want to be the odd one out.
Oh – hope you arrived back safely, SM and PS. Was Scooby on the train? The M50 was closed and I - like thousands of other drivers - endured queues, a slow detour around the Herefordshire countryside and then more queues. I drove back two hours late – but Bedworth made it all worth it. What a delightful way to spend a weekend!

just back.......( long story)......thanks to everyone who came to the Mudgather, and all those who brought chocolate, especially the celery(!) and the purple quality street, which I nobly shared with Kitty, without even sulking (much). I counted about 32 Catters at one point. It was a cracking session and we had a great time, sorry to those who had to compete with the fireworks though.Jack has a hangover the size of a planet...but mumbled he's had a good time too.

Sorry about the previous post, my computer's got wind...

Thanks Dr Price, we got back OK, the M50 was clear for us, but we left a while before you so you were dead unlucky there. Scooby Doo is sporting two lovely black eyes (she's a drummer, you have to punch.... well, you know).

Cheers all

Remiss of me; big, big thanks to Malc and all the team for a fantastic effort! Difficult to organise a festival at the best of times, but in winter, with a major venue hors de combat; sensational! Well done!
