And damn some more: I used to live in Stonnall (and Mrs P used to work at the hospice)! It'sa but too far to come from beautiful downtown Milton Keynes ... have a great night anyway, and raise loads of dosh. Dear old Sybil Clark of the EFDSS spent her last days at St Giles, I believe.

Thanks for comments folks.

I am now a member, so I've got a new name!!!

Jude, by the way, I haven't seen Isambarde as a trio, so I'm looking forward to it too!!

Isambarde are great. An added bonus is that neither Willie Morgan or Tony Barrett are appearing! LOL.

Pete

PS. Nor am I, so you're really lucky. I got a sneaking suspicion we're going to the Red Lion that night.

I am interested as to how many readers of these messages are from the English midlands (being a newcomer!), or how many of you visit the midlands for gigs/festivals.

I know there has been a lot of chat about Bedworth in November, so it would seem a fair few of you get over this way!!

And, of course, if you do, try and come to our charity gig, mentioned above, but with more details at www.rhyzome.co.uk

Thanks rhyzla

Bedworth's in the East Midlands, isn't it? Not the proper Midlands! I'm a Walsall lad originally, Rhyzla, forced to live in the south east for economic reasons. Iget home occasionally.

Hoy! What do you mean 'proper' Midlands!!! I live in North West Leicestershire, which is in the East Midlands (as opposed to the West Midlands, not the Proper Midlands!)

Spot - a rhyzome ( or rhizome to give correct spelling) is the name of the root of a plant which spreads underground, and procreates - so the link is spreading roots (music!) - geddit?

Hi Sal, or Ms Lemon, I'm afraid this is (at the moment!) just a one-off charity gig that I have arranged, so sorry the line-up has been confirmed. I have seen you sing unnacompanied at a few festivals and like your voice a lot -so i will try and get to see the band!

Equally, if you know of anywhere that RHYZOME can spread their roots out, then give me a shout!

Thanks Barry

Welcome to the Cat, rhyzla.
I've only heard Solo-Barry before, but more than one will no-doubt be double the fun! High jinks - highly recommended.

It's nice to see that you might be bringing a mudcat possee (?)

Sal: Bugger, we're doing a spot at Brewood Folk club this coming thursday, but I'm sure our paths will cross soon.

Lynne: As capacity is only 80, I had to make it 'all-ticket', so I wouldn't be able to guarantee entrance on the night - what I'm doing is asking people to send me cheques, but I won't cash them until a week before the gig. Contact me via website if you need more info - my details are on the contact page at
http://www.rhyzome.co.uk

Hope you can make it, and thanks both for your interest!!

If I may mention another event. "Harvey Andrews and friends" (one of whom had a top ten hit in the 80's), a fundraiser for the McMillan terminal illness nurses.
Gnosall Village Hall (just 6 miles from Stafford) on Saturday November 20th.Please send me a personal E mail for the phone number of the person selling the tickets.

Also a Swarbaid concert on February 5th in Broseley with myself, The Ann Lennox Martin band, Pete Smith and John Backley, and All Blacked Up.

Harvey, you are obviously free to add to this thread, but did you realise that your date at Gnosall is the same as the event at the centre of this thread, and being only about 20 miles away may possibly compete for the same audience?

Just seems a bit odd to tag a gig on the same day on the thread - perhaps it might be worth starting a new one! ;-)

Sorry Barry, a complete oversight on my part. Can I suggest that when the Tamworth gig is hopefully full, any disgruntled audience looking for a night out be directed to Gnosall? At least all monies raised are for a fine cause. I'd remove my posting for Gnosall if I knew how. My apologies.

Harvey, thanks for coming back - I knew it must have been a miss-understanding! If indeed we do sell out, I would be delighted to re-direct anyone to Gnosall, but I think you will have no problems in selling your tickets anyway!
Incidentally, I supported you ( and Graham Cooper) in 1975 at Tamworth Cricket and Hockey Club, Something I'll never forget, and I'm delighted you have just done your 40th celebration, it was my 30th earlier this year.

Good luck in all you do - much respect!

Rhyzla

Hi from another midlands folkie (although born a Yorkshireman!). Live in Earlswood just outside Solihull (close to intersection of M42 & M40).

Tend to prefer the smaller singer's night type clubs.

Any info from anybody regarding venues / nights for such clubs within reasonable driving distance of M42 / M40 intersection would be appreciated - only just recently got back into performing after gap of 12 years, and just teamed up with another guy to start to perform together.

Aha! Old Folkie...we go to the Scrag End Folk Club at the Shoulder of Mutton, Oakthorpe (just off the A42 in Leicestershire) every Sunday night. As well as that, we are hoping to start a new folk club in Ashby de la Zouch when we sort the details AND we are hoping to have a session (the first of many we hope) at the Turk's Head in Donisthorpe (next village to Oakthorpe) on 16th December. These should all have their own threads on Mudcat in the near future.

Scrag end has a guest night once a month, but the rest are singers and musicians in the bar..very friendly and informal though we do need more people! This week is the guest night and they are having Claret.

Barry....you should be in easy distance of all these things too!! Sorry to highjack the thread!

PM me for more info

Love Lynne

Just a quick postcript to this thread to say that this event was well supported, and raised £342 for St Giles Hospice, in Whittington, Staffs UK!

Thanks goes to Nigel Bullock, Rhyzome, Isambarde and Claret who all performed admirably on the night, and to a responsive friendly crowd, who made it all worthwhile!!

I'll second that Lynne.

Finally getting to hear Rhyzome... seeing the Family-Baz again after a Barry-free Bridgnorth (hi Chloe)... hooking up with the uber-lovely Lynne and her talented clan (EPN, Shady Lady and Rat). All reasons why Saturday night was such a hoot.

Cheers Barry!
