22 Oct 04 - 05:53 PM (#1304201) Subject: Lyr Add: ERIN'S FAREWELL - Parting Glass variant From: dick greenhaus Hi- I promised Big Mick that I'd post a set of alternate verses to Parting Glass. Here they are: Erin's Farewell Adieu, adieu, my bosom friends, Dear brethren of the union band, My every thought shall be of you When travelling to a distant land. cho: Though I must leave this land of slaves Of chains and sad coersive laws, May God defend each hearty friend Goodnight and joy be with you all. If fate condemns brave Irish men To seek a far and distant shore, And leave behind a heart so kind In valleys loved forevermore. In Auchrim's plains there now remains The bones of my forefathers brave, Had I been there I'd shed a tesr Of sorrow on each heroes' grave. The harbour bell does seem to tell The awful moment to withdraw, "May the High Chief heal Erin's grief" Shall be my prayer when far awa.
