Yorkshire gathering 2005

What do you mean its only October!! We were at the Black Dog last night and confirmed the booking for next year so get your diaries out - ready? - Friday 20th May 2005 to Sunday 22nd May 2005. We are anticipating the usual mix of song, music, drink and fun and hope to see as many of you there as can make it. Plenty of room for tents and caravans just let us know.

Spendid news Mrs D!

Myself & fiends will certainly try to make it next time.

Very well done for your superb organisational skills.

Is it the same place with the al fresco loo?

Not at all Bill ALL are welcome even Mr happys fiends :0) It is a Mudcat gathering but we are always happy to meet any folk loving folk. There is plenty of space for vans and tents and of course the al fresco night loo is a feature!! At previous gatherings here the pub have offered cooked breakfasts and they also do excellent food at other times. The beer is great and quite honestly no excuse not to have a great time. Sometimes we have separate sog and tune sessions and at others mixed. We even had a quiz last year which may be repeated this time but scheduled earlier in the day.

Count us in..... I love that Al Fresco feeling round the nethers at 4.00am! That poor doggie next door must wonder what the hell is going on!

I will produce another quiz if requested, although maybe leave out the joining in round as it was a)too quiet on the lappie and b) too noisy in the pub!

The whistles, hooters and bells will be there, so don't sit next to me if you don't like loud whistles!

If you missed it, it was called 'Never mind the clues, it's all bo//ocks' and was loosely based on (in no particular order), I'm sorry, I haven't a clue, Just a minute, Never mind the bo//ocks and Sale of the Century.

Hi Folks,

Can someone please tell me if this is a primarily traditional gathering, or would a fully paid up singer/sogwriter, who has been branded an AGB by several catters, also be welcome. Most of my sogs are a) Traditional-ish, in tone and tune, with some music hall style, and b) Humourous.

Must go now, I'm feeling soggy again.

Oh, & Khatt, as a newly-wed, I expect you to behave yourself (notice, I didn't say I expect you to behave well! A) I wouldn't, B) I know you, & C) I won't tell Micca if you don't... ;-) )

There is plenty of room on the field at the back of the Black Dog. So far there has not been any problem fitting people in.
The pub will need to know how many people to expect, so they can guess how much extra beer to order. I expect someone will start a body count closer to May.
Sorcha - shame you can't make it this year. I enjoyed the sunny afternoon Old-Time session in the garden.

Is that what you look like after you've drunk it all? I will do a head count as time goes on and ask you whether you are intent or van etc. but it is possible to turn up. As Liz says the main reason for numbers is breakfasts which are excellent. The field is a good size but knowing who and what are attending helps us make sure everyone pitches in a suitable spot.

bd - How about some mild? You can't get mild in a London pub! Other than that, rather than thinking about a barrel or two, is it possible for a publican to get a broader selection in smaller quantity at trade price (e.g. bottled stuff)? I'm an ale/beer man, & don't go much on 'bitter' so if you get a barrel of bitter, I probably won't try it past the first pint. But if you've got a range I'll try one of each (seshpeshully hif I *hic* ain't shtried 'em be*hic*fore...) before settling on my faves (assuming I'm not parallel by then! ;-) ). I suspect most beer lovers, most folkies (is there a distinction (shaddap Khatt!) between the two?) are much the same.

The CAMRA beer tent at Festival At The Edge is pure heaven precisely because, if one beer don't suit, I can finish it (of course, finish it! It's still beer, man!!) & move on to a different one...

Went to Black Dog last night and beer and cider is being sorted. The pub is having a refurb so will look all posh before we arrive and having seen the artists impression will make the area near the conservatory a lot better for singing or musicians. I need to start counting bodies tents and caravans soon so if you could pm me it would make life easier although I will also go through the thread. This is the fifth Yorkshire gathering and looks like it could also be the best so don't miss it.

Jane - Why would all five of your offspring, never mind Geoff, be interested in ration books, eh? (But I would agree that only women understand ration books, & therefore men should not be allowed anywhere near one. Please? Especially Davetnova!!)

Liz - If you want to get between Cats & her ration book, I'm not bloody well rescuing you - I heard what happened to Actaeon, for a start! But anything that keeps Limpit off my back (literally) is to be encouraged (just don't push yer luck...).

Only 2 weeks to go now. All the refurbs should be done by next week so we will have some good areas for singing and music sessions. Of course it will be hot by then so we will all be sitting outside and enjoying the sunshine. We are hoping to have the barbeque on Saturday night as last year as it seemed to suit most people but there is also excellent food on offer in the dining area if you want to be posh. Could we have a quick hands up for Sunday lunch jist to give an idea of numbers. As before it would be preferred if we wait until the latter end of lunchtime (around 2pm) to allow for the regular trade to finish. Anyway if you have had the cooked breakfast you won't be ready to eat before then.

Just called into the pub on the way home from CatsPhiddle and miccas wedding. The alterations are all just about done and it has made a big difference to the feel of the larger area which now has conventional pub type benches and so feels less like an overflow from the dining room. Should make it much better for having song and music sessions.

To clear up any confusion for those who weren't at the gathering last year. The pub will be putting on a barbeque on the Saturday teatime. There will be burgers and other stuff and you pay them for what you have. It was all very good last year and reasonably priced. The pub also do a good selection of meals in the restaurant bit and sandwiches. Tracy has also said she will do breakfasts again this year - hooray! Please bring expandible waist trousers to accomodate the weekends increases.

This little get together sounds as if could be a cracking do'. I've never been before and very much hoping that we'll be able to get there. Desperately trying to find a babysitter for our youngest.

Can we just turn up on the day with my caravan. How big is this field? I assuming that there are no services.

We have been taking our kids to the gathering since they were tiny tots. The facilities are basic but there is a chance of a portable shower / toilet block being there this year which will be novel. Field is a good size and can't see a problem with just turning up.

Bloody damn sure this is isn't the thread for it.

This is a thread about the Mudcat Yorkshire Gathering. If you want to make some sort of point about a recently enacted piece of legislation, be a decent chap & take it somewhere else, eh? Start your own thread & be shot down in flames by whichever side. Don't hijack this one!

Each year what happens has been slightly diferent, depending on the venue and who turns up. Friday night has tended to be everyone together, although the new layout of the pub may make people spread out further. There has usually been ome form of music playing session on the Saturday afternoon and another on the evening. Some folks pay a passing visit such as you plan to, so could be at either. There should be music happening and if not you could start it up and others will join in.

Echoing others' accolades and appreciation to the Ducks (including Maddie, for all the work she does on the raffle!) and to the owners & staff of the Black Dog for their patience and helpfulness.

Fond memories for me... Banjo Ray's lovely background picking all weekend (whenever there wasn't something else going on), CatsPhiddle's rousing rendition of Landlord Fill the Flowing Bowl (a real high point of the Saturday evening sing), Liz & Micca's side-splitting parodies, the hot tune-session Friday evening -- kicked off by Bill Sables & Sam Pirt (what a pair!), Hacksaw Bob's magical massages reducing late-late-night Catters (including me) to wonderfully relaxed puddles, Liz's quiz, the Sunday sing, and so much more...

Once again enjoyed being able to (at last!) put some faces to familiar names (now if I can just remember all the names that go with the faces!) -- as well as (of course) getting to see friends from last year again.

Also lovely to see the those who met at last year's YG still together & going strong on their "first anniversary", as well as that newly-hitched "Patterson couple" (not to mention parents/in-laws!).

Good Luck to Ian McFlute and Mrs Duck on their upcoming job interviews -- we're all rooting for you!

Cheers -- Vikki

P.S. Many thanks for the compliments on the cookies -- glad they're "going down" well! [g]
