Eileen McGann is appearing at the Turks Head in Lincoln on Sunday 31st October at 7.30pm. It will be worth being there if only to enjoy a set by our own Strollin' Johnny in support!

Hey, I've heard Eileen and she is FEE-NOMINAL (or however it is that you spell phenomenal!). What a magnificent voice - I'll be glad when I've finished my set just so I can listen to Eileen. LOL

Looking forward very much to Sunday, just hope I can live wi' competition!

And I hear her guitar-player (David K?) is no slouch either.

wow! I have an old cassette of hers I bought in 1986! It has "live not where I love" on it. Is she coming out to the West Coast? I live in LA and would love to see her if she is. She has such a great voice.

there is a tour schedule on her web page
she was in british columbia this spring and summer.
and was in oregon and (northern) california in spring 2003.
so there ia always a chance she will be in the area again..
contact the agent with a possible venue and see what happens!
(i thought Lincoln was in Nebraska! As this is an international
forum, best to be more specific when listing locations, thanx!)

I thought they meant Lincoln Nebraska as well given that Lincoln NE has so many Universities and music clubs!

Eileen has played numerous times in my hometown, Orillia (Ontario, Canada) for the Orillia Folk Society, and she's always a delight to listen to. I'm glad to hear that our friends in the U.K. are getting to enjoy seeing her too.

Black Walnut you scoundrel - you were in Lincoln in July and didn't visit the Gainsborough Folk Club (even though we invited you via the 'Cat!)? Tut tut, consider yourself rebuked! LOL. Hope you enjoyed Lincoln, nice town and some good music going on in Lincolnshire.

And yes Tansy, the REAL ORIGINAL Lincoln is here in the UK - it's the one you North Americans blagged the name of to use for your own 'Lincolns'! Founded by the invading Romans around 400 AD, so I reckon we have the copyright on the name! LOL!!

Hearing Eileen McGann's name caused me to go back and listen to that very old tape I have from 1986..but the tape is a bit garbled from time, I'm Afraid.. there's a swell song on it I'd love to learn the words to: Canoe song at Twilight

can anyone point me in direction of the lyrics?

Canoe Song at Twilight

DOWN in the west the shadows rest,
Little grey wave, sing low, sing low!
With a rhythmic sweep o'er the gloomy deep
Into the dusk of the night we go,
And the paddles dip and lift and slip,
    And the drops fall back with a pattering drip;
The wigwams deep of the spirits of sleep
Are pitched in the gloom on the headland steep.
Wake not their silence as you go,
Little grey wave, sing low, sing low!

From your porch on high where the clouds go by,
Little white moon, look down, look down!
'Neath night's shut lid the stars are hid,
And the last late bird to his nest has flown.
The slow waves glide and sink and slide
    And rise in ripples along the side;
The loons call low in the marsh below,
Night weaves about us her magic slow,–
Ere the last faint gleam in our wake be gone,
Little white moon, look down, look down!

Hint
Just use Google search and put in what you are looking for... it usually comes up trumps.

Saw Eileen at Much Wenlock at the beginning of the month. Great singer.

Sunday has dawned! (Well, not quite but the sky's definitely lightening in the East). Tonight's the night! Can't wait, got a gentle adrenalin buzz already.

I'll ask Eileen for 'Canoe Song' tonight, hope she still can do it - beautiful lyrics.

It's TONIGHT!!!!! Hello Eileen! Hello David! Hello S.J.! Have a wonderful time all!

S.J. .... I was kept so busy in Lincoln I barely had time to catch my breath, or was that simply due to the altitude of Steep Hill? The cathedral, the castle, the restaurants, the Ghost Walk, the Roman ruins, and our hospitable hosting friends - what a wonderful place. I'll be back for sure, I'm sure of it.

Make sure you visit our club when you do b.w.! Only 17 miles from Lincoln and a fine welcome for all visitors, but especially fellow 'Catters. I counted eleven 'Catters at the club on Friday.

All the best,

I hope you said my real name and not 'black walnut'. I don't think they'd know me by my Mudcat name.

Waiting here for detailed description about the evening, please!

Eileen was amazing b.w., what a voice and what a fine, kind and interesting lady. Gave her your regards, she was very happy and extremely surprised (and yes, don't worry, I used your real name!). I loved her songs and her performance of them. David too is a superb musician and his voice blends perfectly with Eileen's. Only had enough dosh for one CD but I'd have liked to buy them all. Looking forward to their return, hopefully next year.

The only negative was the low turn-out, I'm amazed that a city the size of Lincoln (pop. c. 70k) could only muster thirty-or-so in the audience. Oh well, their loss!

I'm afraid my own performance was somewhat off-par, but Eileen's singing lifted me and drove out the blues! :0)
