Plucked Psaltery - Where can I buy one?

Does anyone know where I can buy a plucked psaltery. I did enquire of Marcus Music where I bought a bowed psaltery a couple of years ago, but they wont be making any until the new year and I have promised my 11 year old son that he can have one for Christmas. Panic stations here!

Try either/both Elderly Instruments www.elderly.com or Lark In The Morning www.larkinthemorning.com
Elderly is in Lansing, Michigan; Lark in the Morning is in San Franciscos and another city in California.

ebay...I've got two which I bought there. One of them is smaller and made by a grandpa for his grandkids. He even has music sheets to put under the strings to teach them where to pluck for simple songs. As far as I know he still sells them there. The other one i bought on ebay is regular sized, old, and beautiful. If I remember right, I paid under $50 for it.

Good luck!

they are getting together a list of names, availability, delivery times & prices if you want to give them a call late Thursday morning.

Thanks for everyone's replies.

Skipy - I am in the UK (Hampshire). I have done a bit of searching on the internet and contacted one company earlier this evening called Fine Tuning who charge £315 for a plucked psaltery. I was hoping to find something a little less expensive and also wondered if it might be worth getting a kit to make one.

I will definitely try The Music Box as you suggested - many thanks.

For cheapness, you could always go to the woods and shoot one for yourself and pluck it when ya git home.

LOL, DH!

Here are a couple of places which you might try: click here

or, here.

If they won't ship overseas, you could have it sent to one of us and we could send it over. I've done that for other Mudcatters before. You pay for the shipping through paypal or international money order, etc.

Good luck. It's neat that your son wants this for a pressie!

Look out for recordings of Betty Smith. She used to do a Sunday morning program on the plucked psaltery at Fiddler's Grove in North Carolina years ago that was absolutely beautiful.
