I have to put mine in the mail this week. I mailed them too early before and they had a long wait until the solstice or holiday--I don't want to tempt my Santee to peek too soon!

But.... but....
I was just settling down for a nice long (nearly) winter's nap
When what to my wondering eyes did appear,
But another dear tease from my Sweet Santa dear

There's a gift on my wall and one in the closet
I figured I was lucky it was early that I got it
All that I needed was patience and luck
To prevent protective spells from turning all into muck

But now I must wait, for the white coral bells to ring in the season
When the magical musical fairies do sing all in tune
My Michevious Magical Mystical Santa must have a reason
While Santa is playing and taunting it's a haunting low croon

I'll sit with my hands folded most contritely
I promise I'll go right down and do all the laundry
I've done up the dishes and wiped down the loo
But I'll stay a good girl waiting once again Waiting on you...

WHY IS NOTHING EASY!!! ????

Hoorah! My present came today! Yea!

I could even tell you who sent it, 'cause her name is on the return address. Thing is, it isn't her MUDCAT name … so I'm no wiser!

OK – inside there's something in an envelope so I guess it would tell me what 'Catter is my lurvely lurvely (and now penniless – sheesh, how much did this thing cost t' post????) Santa if I opened it, but I have this thing about opening stuff ON Christmas.

Which I can't do, 'cause I'll be away so I thought I'd open it the night before I go.

Well – I say "it". I should say "them" 'cause the box is full of pressies, all with little niggling sticky-notes on them. "Nope – not this one", "Uh – Uh", etc.

Anyone remember back in the '60s when Kodak did an "Open Me First" campaign? I desperately wanted an "Open Me First" (i.e. camera) so my bl**dy family put "Open Me First", "No – Open Me First", "I'm the one to Open First" on every single present under the tree. Got me so worked up I was sick as a dog by Christmas Eve.

So … to wait or not to wait?

I'm already feelin' a bit queasy ….

I know I said I was new at all this, but for some reason my posts to this thread keep getting swallowed up by some thingy wotsit, but I shall persist until I succeed.

I have received a most wondrous parcel from England, full of all sorts of goodies and delights.   I am truly in awe at the kindness of my secret santa, and the generosity bestowed upon me and my family.

er .... am I allowed to say who my Secret Santa is?

My 2004 Secret Santa gift has arrived.

It appears that, unlike last year, I have not received a rock. There are two of whatever they are and they obviously are not rocks. Well... They could be rocks, but they would have to be rocks of exactly the same size and weight as CD's in jewel cases. Furthermore, they seem to have been shipped directly from "CD Baby", not "Rock Baby". So, I would say that the odds of them being rocks are rather slim. But, hey, stranger things have happened.

From: GUEST,BWL's Secret Santa

I wasn't expecting you to get two presents, but I think CD Baby have thrown in a free one for you. Let me know what it is when you open it!

The other one is not a rock, but has something to do with something that rhymes with 'rock'.

There will be a little bit more from a lot further away, but probably even less rocky than this instalment - almost squishy, you might say.

Well, OK. The elves have finally got their act together (sort of, you just can't get the staff these days, you know), we've loaded the sleigh and fired up the steam catapault to get it airborn (not much flat ground for a runway here) so you should be receiving something or other some time (or other). My amanuensis on the Mudcat wishes to append the ensuing caveat (look THAT up in your Funk & Wagnall):

"Dear Nancy,
Due to concerns about National Security (whose Security? for that matter, whose Nation? they won't tell me anything) I have been obliged to put my real-world name and a return address on your parcel. Thus with very little spadework (and, indeed, a very little spade) you will be able to dig up my Mudcat identity without even opening the package. I leave it in your capable hands to decide how long you want the mystery to last.
Best wishes for the festive season,

pp Nancy King's Santa-Type Person"

Oh Cahmpagne Carole!

The Reindeer appear to be mostly over the Flu that held many of them out of early delivery service and the good news is that Donner has left the North Pole with your first pack of Pressies! Dancer got drafted for another Mission adn Donner bravely volunteered to shepherd the box to your door.

Only one thing - It dawned on me that you might open one of the pressies and assume it is soap. Please don't do that. Disasterous results would ensue! There is NO soap-like substance in ANY of your Pressies...just something currently very popular which happens to be shaped like soap. I repeat it is NOT SOAP.

NOT SOAP!   NOT SOAP!    NOT SOAP!

Please keep this in mind. It could prevent a potential catastrophe. Others have not been so lucky as to be warned, have presumed it to be soap and....well....let's just say the scene...it wasn't pretty. Not as bad as the exploding pumpkin fiasco....but rather unfortunate.

For the sake of making sure that the Pressies would come back to The North Pole in the event that Donner stops off at a pub and leaves them behind...certain identifying remarks were left on the package. I don't mind you catching on to my identity early. Donner has a tendency to tipple. Especially when he's recovering from Flu. It's his tragic flaw.

So..Pressie box number one...winging it's way towards Champagne Carole as we speak.

NOT SOAP! NOT SOAP! NOT SOAP!

Not really sure what I will do with the little package labelled 'the good stuff' - I'm just hoping nobody knocks on the door unexpectedly, or I may have to flush it... perhaps I can swap it with a friend...

May be I can trade the Chrissie card with Joe Offer - I think that is his line of interest, but I have always been interested in light houses too.... never liked heavy ones...

Yo-Ho-Ho!

Ho-Ho-Hum

Hoping to see that Pressie Box number one has made it safely to Champagne Carole but no such luck.

That drunkard Reindeer Donner is probably lying on a pubfloor somehwere with the Pressie Box still strapped to his back. I used a padlock just in case this might happen. If you see a Hungover reindeer staggering out a pub-door, give him a hand, a paracetamol and point him in the general direction of Champagne Carole's house, okay?

Thanks ever so much. When he gets back I am going to insist he go to AA or face lay-off. He's already been to Hazelton & Betty Ford.

Secretive, Teaser, Delighted,Fantabulous, Tenacious, World-Reknown, Marvelously Musical, Perfectly Patient, Out-of-Breath, Spell Casting, Spell Shifting, Dear, Dear Secret Santa,

My present has arrived. and it's timeing is perfect as I had just finished cleaning and rearranging the living room to make room for the Christmas tree. I had even re hung the curtains I took down 3 months ago to wash (and then forgot about--yes they did get washed first...) So I feel like Santa used special Santa vision to catch me being good and I got a reward from the UK that even says CHOCOLATES on the custom declaration. Now as soon as the tree is in place they will be the first boxes to go underneath.
Can I open the outer wrapping or will that break the spell ???

The Good Little Housekeeper,

Tinker

Okay, so I haven't done the dishes yet, and it's almost noon... I know Santa I promise I'll get them done now.... some one has to do something about this "sees you when.." business.....

Aha, so those Sea-Fairies have finally reached your shores - excellent, I may use them again, perchance next Christmas!

Have you done the washing up now? If so, you are welcome to open the outer packaging, all is safely wrapped inside. Customs declarations are terribly tedious, but you will find that, in this case, there have been no falsehoods!

It will be up to you to restrain yourself with anything unwrapped if you wish, but wrapped articles (interesting but inexpensive) will be happy under your tree until your self-appointed opening date - Birthday or Solstice as I recall. Perhaps you could share them between the dates? Do let me know how you get on, patience is still a virtue Dear Tinker.....

Still have absolutely no idea who my Dear Secret Santa is though & therein lies the rub.... "to open the outer wrapper or not to open the outer wrapper, that is the question. Whether 'tis still all secretive within?"

Well, have repotted the Merry Tree & will be bringing it into the cottage tomorrow to dress. When the last glistening bauble is placed, I can then put pressies underneath. So, Santa Dear (or Santa's Charming & Noble Assistant), pray tell, is all wrapped safely within????? We're glad that the person we gave your present to got it into the postal stream properly and that it arrived safely. The box, envelope or can that it was shipped in is but the exterior packaging, and you are perfectly welcome to open it and put the contents under your no-doubt-lovely tree. There are no hints or crass revelations inside. Oh, and I'm not entirely sure, but the possibility does still exist that the city and state of origin are not the same in which we reside.

Thank you Santa it will sit, [till christmas when I'll open it]
Beneath the tree, beside the log, and get sniffed daily by the dog
She must be watched her favourite caper is to steal and consume paper
And when that christmas day arrives, if canine curiosity it survives
Sitting up in bed with fresh Bucks Fizz, we'll open parcels and gee whiz.
We'll eat we'll drink, we'll all get fatter, and toast our Secret Santa Mudcatter.

Thank you santa.

Oh dear, oh dear. We're getting adjacent to the big lift-off, and so far .............. nothing. Not for me, and not for Carole either. Both our outgoings went out, and one at least has arrived, but no incomings yet. If they're not here by Thursday, we'll miss them - we leave at sparrowfart on Friday - hope the postal services hold them over until we get back mid January. Otherwise, dear Santas, you may be getting returns and will have to send them again!!

Oh dear, oh dear .............

Yippy! Thank you dear SS for getting this great Teva box to the nest in time! I've vowed to be good and not open presents until Xmas, but am having trouble convincing the corgis they should do the same. I've put the gifts up high and there is a lot of sniffing going on, behavior I do not stoop to myself, of course, altho I have poked and shaken a bit! I have not even opened card, as directed, but am itching to get at it! Many thanks again..... sign me, impatient in Paso.

The map must have been perfect and the elf swift, as the box arrived today. The neat packages, which keep.murmurig "Open me! Open Me!" are safely ensconced beneaIh the tree awaiting the ritual wrap rending on Saturday. I must admit that I am most curious as one package doen not adhere to the bill of lading on the box. But I am a patient person.

Thanks again -- Tom

I know a couple of real names but not the key MudcatSanta one. AND it's from right on the Californian beachfront almost. Not 40 miles inland. My Dear Secret Santa. You are still playing games. Do you perhaps have a couple of elves where the swallows come back to Capistrano?
Zen hints. Ah yes! California or Japan? That's the question. The sound of one hand clapping echos in my head! Thank you Dear Santa. Thank you. Thank you!. Cheery-bye, Joy

My Santas name was on the label so no rules broken mentioning his name. However as to my extremely devious extra Santa no clues whatsoever. A large cuboid parcel arrived yesterday and in the interest of not being able to wait I opened up the most wondrous string of fairy lights all of which are little yellow rubber ducks. We chose to put them up in our room where the computer also lives. I was a little bemused however as I overheard Geoff singing to himself
"By the light of the little yellow duck..." Is that what you meant by sharing, Liz?? Whoever you are everso secret (I've narrowed it down to about a dozen!)Santa, thank you very much!!!

Well, I was ever so good, and not only waited until Yule Morning, but even until After Breakfast to open my Yule packet.

Therein, I found: A little box with a homemade snowman(woman?) ornament nestled inside. A book of local folktales. 2 (count 'em -- two) wonderfully smelling bars of chocolate (one of which is flavored with ginger -- whee!), and a Sampler CD of my Santee's own band -- woo-hoo! (and the CD was packed in what looks suspiciously like a Doctor Who Big Finish Audio jewel case, so I am left thinking perhaps my Santa and I share other tastes in common)

And last, but not least, there was a wee card with my Santee's name, so I could thank her in person::

Thank you, MBSLynne! You're a wonder! And thank you, too to the sweet Jersey cow that brought the package all the way here... no doubt you are the cow that jumped over the moon, since you got it here so quickly! ...have an apple. It's very sweet.

Dear Darling SS...The only reason I've been able to hold off on the wrapped presents is the excelent book your package contained. I am enjoying it very much, just the right kind of reading for picking up, then putting down when the stove needs to be stoked or the dishes, really....finally....have to be done. Have travelled over 3 continents and 3 centuries in the past few days...fascinating. So far, however, I haven't a clue as to who(m) you might be...I am a dunce at this sort of thing...and the suspense is beginning to tell. Will sit down with a cold towel and try to ward off early gratification but feel a sort of....must...open...presents...NOW.... coming over me.

Lynne, is your apprentice elephant dressed as an elf the same one I'm expecting I wonder ? Otherwise two elephants on the same sleigh would slow things down a lot with the extra refuelling stops.   I suspect Olive may have turned right instead of left at Greenland but I'm sure once the GPS reboots they'll be with us. The rabbit loves the extra hay in the meantime.

Your Secret Santa's legal counsel also suggests that you "be patient or drink yourself into a stupor (not that anyone could tell the difference) until your present arrives, delivered by an official, UNIFORMED representative of Queen Elizabeth II."

It's such a cryptic present. Plain brown paper. No sound if you shake it. No clue by feeling it. A pair of names on the return address. Neither one any help. I have already made several guesses as to the identity of my own Dear Secret Santa, the last one has been lodged with my Bank as proof positive that I actually know nothing at all!!!

I am extremely concerned that my own Dear Secret Santa's wonderful Assistant is calling him or herself 'Evil'. This is a worrying trend. Certainly, Secretarys and Administrators are major Cogs in the Machine, but Santa has a magical power and I believe that she or he KNOWS just how GOOD I have been, and there are lovely pressies under my homegrown tree to prove it *grin* Only one more day.....

I wanted to open them for late Solstice, but my daughter said I should wait for Christmas. Oh...I love this. The postcards are gorgeous, too. ANd,I don't have a clue...the only two 'catters I know of in VA don't match up with the name on the package, of course, someone could be being very Secetive with me. All shall be revealed, I hope, when I open the envelope wmarked wait until opening all other packages!

THANKS SO MUCH, SANTA!!!

Here's a question - why is it that it takes 4 days to send a package from Florida to California and 3 weeks to send one from Florida to Ireland?   It's about the same distance, and I'm even paying MORE.

What the hell is wrong with all this?

Thank you Secret Santa, I'll be home on the 28th to open pressies - and check for clues...

Happy Christmas to all Secret Santas and Santees wherever you are.

something wonderful just happened!

i went out the front door to get my cat (deli) and there was a parcel in the letter box

it was from my secret santa (and helpers)

i opened the cardboard box, inside was a lovely card - embroidered with a blonde angel in a purple dress) and a beautiful purple box (how did they know i like purple?)as i took things out, little stars, coloured paper and paper snowflakes came out.

and a cassette of beautiful christmas classical music, a tiny pudding, candy sticks, and a mini christmas cake - everything individually wrapped, but best of all it included a beautiful purple african caftan that i saw at the towersey festival, but couldnt afford to buy. i wanted that so much! someone there must have known i wanted it, and got it for me!

secret santa, this is one of the best presents i have ever received - so kind and thoughtful - THANK you, you have made my day, my week and my year. and i have some beautiful tiny paper snowqflakes on the floor - they will stay there for me to smile at!!

I think i know who you are santa - one of three people - thank you, thank you, thank you!

X freda

Thanks to my Secret Santa, Sarah The Flute. I loved the books, I knew you had a "quirky" sense of humor. My kids and I loved Nunzilla. She reminds me of Sister Finbar.... and your Cd is great. I wish you best of luck with it. I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas, and best wishes for the New Year.

I have happily discovered that my Secret Santa this year was Alison. I wasn't sure from the writing on the package, and actually hadn't searched too hard, but the information was in the package. Lots of goodies, and my kids helped with the unwrapping. Music from Alison from a session and instructions for learning the bodhran (and a note telling me that if I don't have a bodhran I can practice with tupperware and a wooden spoon!) Lots of views of Australia in a date book that is almost too gorgeous to write in. There's a great printed linen cloth that is the sort that can either be a big dish cloth or a wall-hanging. This Aboriginal Australia hanging will be in globe trotting good company on my laundry room walls with the Statue of Liberty and a linen print depicting a ceiling in Britain's Kensington Palace. Finally, I think the cold can holder is far more refined than most that you'll find in the US, with sports teams, crude sayings, or beer brands on them! It was a lot of fun to open, and it was a good choice of stuff that made the long trip easily.

Thank you, Alison!

Well, seeing as not all of my Pressies have arrived at Chez Carol & Cllr...Perhaps Cllr should keep my identity secret a while longer..at least until Twelfth Night...hehe. Keep Champagne Carol on pins and needles.

Fine by me, I'm not done playing yet! After all, I haven't yet sent any photos from my brief career as a semi-professional wrestler! (for real)

Cllr...if you didn't see earlier..I've ordered up a Bottle of Champagne for her from Drinkon.com and it should arrive in the next couple of days. it's intended for your New years Eve celebrations. I've more little pressies to send as well. I'll probably post them on Tuesday. I do hope the other Pressies all arrive in a heap tomorrow.

Hmmm, wait a minute while I do a Search on Brassneck ok, that narrows it down a bit- but not enough to let me know if it was you... or you...

Many thanks, all the same!

Oh, and the 'rocks' were a jar of Lemon Curd and a jar of Gherkin pickle. Thanks, Robin!

Firecat, you're fantastic ! A box of butterscotch, a most treasured Mudcat Badge, a recipe laden tea towel, two delightful, beautifully illustrated cookery tomes (I'll be trying out one recipe today) and another book of aged photographs of your extended neighborhood. Oddly enough, that publisher has its regional US office located in nearby Portsmouth, and on twice Linn (Bat Goddess) has come quite close to working there.

All in all, this was a fine lot of presents, the enjoyment of which will endure for many years to come.

I should really like to thank you in person, Katy, but it may be a while ere we enjoy the correct confluence of time and money to travel across the pond. In the meanwhile, you can send a picture to Pene Azul so that I can put a face with all your thoughtful generosity.

My own Dear Secret Santa's Fabulous Assistant, I have to confess that I'm pretty sure that the game is up! Don't ask me how as it all clicked into place a few days ago. The Locator was no use at all, the postcards were completely crazy, but your previous hints and the Old Atlas had narrowed down the search. Having got the vague location I could cross out those who were playing whose profiles showed them elsewhere.

You and my Own Dear Secret Santa were still on the list at that point as I had no clues as to your whereabouts. My guess was a shot in the dark, but having been on Chat last night I am soooooo sure know, you really were Very Helpful *smile*

Thankyou So Much for the FABULOUS beaded earrings (sooooo craftily clever), they're beautiful!!! Have just got back from a 2 day Santa Run so haven't had a chance to listen to the CD yet, but it looks extremely interesting! Any the books are just my style & even better, I've never heard of them. Wonderful pressies, Thanks!!!

Believe me, you guys have blown my mind & it was SO MUCH FUN! Thankyou both & have a wonderful Christmas & New Year! (Was just going to send this when the Cat went down!!! - have sent you a pm from the Annexe)

I have been asked to pass on these comments from Limpit.

WOWWWW!! A mermaid. She's lovey and special. She was named after me? Fairy dust... Oooooooooo!! More? A big pencil from Itasca where? Look what the fairy is doing on the box.....! Can we make the muffin mix now (this at 7.30 in the morning....) can I wear the hair bungee now?

I gather from that, she liked them... especially the fairy dust.

Thank you so much for making a little girl shut the hell up for 10 minutes!!!!

Your letter was wonderful too, such a beautiful picture it painted that I want to visit!

The mermaid made it one piece, as did the giant pencil. We've not made the muffins yet, that's being saved for New Years....

Thank you - all the bits of paper all over the floor were worth it!

The rest of the parcels I opened on Christmas Day, and they contained two packs of temporary butterfly tattoos (which I haven't applied yet), a butterfly teeshirt with butterflies on the front and back, and two pairs of beaded earrings, one red and blue, the other blue and silver.

Thank you again art! Consider yourself hugged!

I have just had a day of laughing at two of my cats. Part of the prezzy was some cat nip covered toys, something you do not get in China. Sooty and Kitty went absolutely mad. Sooty played pawball for about 2 hours and then lay on her back licking and smiffing one of the toys. Kitty even decided to have a run around and then decided to lay on her back for an hour holding the other cat toy between paws sniffing and licking it and going into little shudders!

Both are now lying worn out by their exertions, both have lovely contented expressions.

Now I am worried what will they do when the withdrawal symptoms kick in, will they go Cat Nip Cold Turkey?

Just now waiting for Mimi the No.1 cat to come in and see if she looses her normal calm but grumpy nature when she gets a whiff of the cat nip.

Many thanks Laurel, btw the candy is excellent.

I can hardly wait to dress up a little to wear the braclet, it's sooooooooo beautiful, reds a good color. Thank you so much it was just like Christmas all over. Well, I think that I can safely assume that I didn't have a Secret Santa this time.

Oh well, at least I had fun finding the presents for my Secret Santee. My Santee hasn't received them yet, due - not to the vagaries of Oz Post, but to the flat-out busyness of me and resulting fatigue, and also to my incredible talent at procrastination. I couldn't believe how quickly December flew by without me getting the presents wrapped and packaged for posting and then to the post office..

I'm hoping that soon my Santee's present will arrive and I hope that they are what my Santee would like.

Maybe it's something to do with Australian Customs (as in the little people who poke about in your pressies after they get taken off the plane, ship or snail - not the Oz customs like poking fun at your mates, or standing around a bunch of burning fuel, singeing lumps of meat and drinking brown fizzy stuff) because it is interesting that the Oz Catters are the ones who don't have pressies: JennyO, Sandra in Sydney, alison, & me.

And Giok, it is brown if it is Brown, black (well, almost) if it is Black, brown if it is Blue, or Red, and looks like frothy liquid Vegemite if it is Guinness, etc etc. :-)

Nice idea Helen. But are we in fact Santaless? We must have been assigned Santas, and only Liz knows who they are. I was thinking of waiting till she is over her current medical procedure, and then asking her if she knows of any reason why my Santa has not responded (except for 3 months ago when he/she said "OK, no morphine for you....") I'm wondering if any of our Santas are sick or anything. I'm quite happy to wait - I'd just like to know what's happening.

It does seem strange that so many of us in Oz have not received our presents. I was wondering about customs and food too, however last year, Col K sent me some Kendall Mintcake, amongst other things, and that came through in time all right.

Santa, you really hit the nail on the head for me! Terry Pratchett buttons galore. I'll be giving some of those to the friends who let me read their TP books.

Sankey was absolutely perfect!! That particular collection was never published in the US. I'd been told there were gospel songs included it in for which Sankey could or would not get copyright permissions. Copyright was not international in those days so he could print any US only piece he wanted. It definately has many more songs than Sankey's US publication.

Giok,

To clarify my previous comments: Tooheys has a variety of beers on offer, including the ones with colours in the name, i.e. Tooheys Brown, T's Old (commonly referred to as Black), T's Blue (a light bitter, and one of my favourites but not easily found on tap), T's Red. Then there is T's New.

I've tried Foster's once. It was like fizzy dishwater, so most true-blue Aussies probably just think it was a successful con-job by the marketing gurus to sell it overseas as the great Aussie beer. You rarely see an Aussie drinking it these days - well, especially here in NSW. In Victoria it may get drunk (or drunks drunk!) more often because that is where it was originally made, I think.

VB or Victoria Bitter is all right, IMHO, although I don't drink it often.

My first preference is for bitter beers, and I don't drink a lot anyway, and usually I am the "designated driver" so that's why I liked T's Blue, the light bitter.

Hope this helps decipher what I said earlier when I was obfuscating. :-)

no thanks Jenny - the getting a pressie bit of it isn't the important thing - whats disheartening is if there are people out there putting their names down so they can get something without carrying out their end of the bargain....

I hope I'm wrong and that the pressies to Oz are just taking their time sight seeing before they get here

alison,

I've got a small present for you anyway. I've just been procrastinating getting it organised. I'll try to get it sorted this weekend and sent off.

I don't know if I have your current (postal) address so if you could PM me with the details that's help.

Helen

P.S. I'm pretty sure it's something you would want, but I'm not sure if you already have it.

My present just arrived from Australia, and it is FANTASTIC! Santa, you really outdid yourself. You not only sent the kinds of things I finally left in the hints thread, but you successfully deciphered my mystery hint: "Every time I get in the carr, I feel alienated. Help me, Caleb!" Santa sent me the book "The Alienist," by Caleb Carr, along with some sea music CD's, political badges (I collect campaign badges), and a few other souvenirs from OZ. This was all at no small expense, I might add, being shipped from Australia.
Santa also left me a few hints about Santa's identity (if any of you fellow Australian members know, please don't spill the beans). I'll mull over it and see if I can solve this mystery. But for now, one great big thank you for such a generous and right-on-the-mark gift! I'm truly humbled by your efforts.

I've posted in this thread as myself, but I don't think that clue will help you much, as there are a few of us - heh heh heh!

But now I have to find the proper frame for a glorious bat goddess! (As well as the other drawings.) I really like your drawings, Santa! The calendar is a treat, too, and the silk scarf is right on the money color-wise.

Thank you, thank you!

My apologies for a very belated public THANK YOU to jaze for the stupendously wonderful Secret Santa gifts he sent me. I opened them on Christmas, but hadn't figured out just who the 3D name was in MudcatLand, then I lost track when I went for a stay at the local sawbones' hangout. My daughter sussed it out for me while I was away.:-)

First, a gorgeous Christmas box which reminded me of my grandma's hat boxes...it's a keeper! Full of TWO books, both of which I know I will love; lovely chocolates and yummy-smelling soap, plus some laughing cat socks his wife picked out AND a BEE-YOU-TEE-FULL fairy cross pendant from the good ol' earth of Virginia. Best of all, though, was his own story of part of his growing up years. Once I started reading I couldn't put it down and I am MOST HONOURED that he shared it with me. THANK YEW, THANK YEW, THANK YEW, Kind Sir!! Now, as your friends have said, "write the book!"

luvya'll and Thanks,

Thanks, jaze! I am sorry, I forgot to mention the CDs you sent, too. Believe it or not, I am just getting fit enough to finally listen to them and a couple of others which I received at the holiday. I didn't have a CD player except at the computer nad no wherewithal to sit up to listen, but now have a handy little player near the bed where I am spending a bunch of my time, so will enjoy them immensely, I am sure.

It has done my heart good...this Secret Santa stuff. Thanks, again,

Plus the perfect thing for a fake world-traveller like me - a carrybag from a shop called 'Made in Oregon' which I can carry about Sydney & look like I've been Overseas.

many thankyous to Amergin

Teresa & Alison,

I know it's nearly Easter but I started a new job a month ago and then had to go away for a couple of weeks training and then I got a letter from the Tax Office saying they won't wait much longer for my last 3 tax returns, but....

Teresa, when your present came back claiming you weren't at that address it also came back with one of the items broken so I've been searching high and low for a replacement - why was it so easy to find in the first place and so hard to find again? I don't know. Anyway I finally found one this weekend so yours will be posted again tomorrow.

Alison,

I am nearly there on yours as well - your extra non-SS present which I think you'll like. It has been sitting waiting to send except for one item, which I'll do today and send tomorrow as well.

I haven't forgotten, just been disorganised.

I finally figured out that my Santa was JennyO (sea music scene in Australia thread). I want to say here what I said there, for all to see: Jenny was a GREAT Santa! Generous, on the mark, witty, and any other good word that comes to mind. I'm just sorry you've been left in the lurch by your Santa. It's an unfortunate thing that crops up every year, which I know first-hand, as I got no pressie nor explanation the Christmas before last. Why would anyone sign up for this and not keep their end of the bargain?

Anyone want a rescue Santa? PM me with the name and address of a friend here who's been left in the cold, and I'll send something.

JennyO, I finally, finally, finally, the elves got off of their duffs (they were out on an extended vacation in Cancun to soak up some sun) and sent your replacement box. The reindeer refused to have anything to do with take-offs and landings in the thaw around the pole, so I had to beg and wheedle and finally, well, I'm embarrassed to say, but I finally bribed a postal employee to stick it into the back end of one of those silver birds. If they can't manage to fly over your house to drop it on your porch they may have to land and hand carry it.

There was one freelance elf helping on this, but I haven't seen any trace of that one's activity (nothing mentioned here about billet-doux arriving from hither and yon). I hope they have been arriving, so you knew this Santa hadn't forgotten about you.

The timing is perfect - winter is starting to make its presence felt, and I am looking forward to all sorts of wonderful chili dishes to keep me warm. It's gonna be a HOT time in the old town tonight!!

Only last night after looking at Joybell's thread, my suspicions were confirmed - that Stilly River Sage is my Substitute Super Secret Santa, with some help from elf Joybell (that post about your little errand a few days ago started me thinking SRS).

I'd be interested to know a bit more about my keyring ornament - where it came from and how it was made. I love it!

That box was supposed to be a sort of tour of North America. Mexico and the Southwest with the chile and the seasonings, and the middle part of the U.S. with the berries and the Northwest with the Almond Roca (Brown and Haley make them daily!) and the northern part of Canada (Nunuvik) with the keychain. It's called an inukshuk and symbolizes the cairns that are built as markers when traveling thorough such open landscape and on beaches. Look near the bottom of this page and you'll see a quite unusual one.

Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed it. What do you want to bet the sniffing dogs got a hint of capsacin when they went past that box?

Joy looked positively mischievious when she suggested that could send a few more cards along with the ones I'd written out. I wasn't sure, though, that if by sending them with a traveler it might doom them to be delayed until she got home (around the US it has been noted by many travelers that your postcards never reach the people you sent them to until after you are already back home). I'm glad they drifted in for a little buildup.

If you look at the package on the dried New Mexico chiles there are directions for how to prepare them.

Hey guys - I go away for a few weeks and some MudElf mails me a package. I get home and I find a complete set of the Mudcat CDs!!!!!

I've checked the customs form and it was a Mr Squiggle that mailed it! It wasn't marked 'opened by customs' - it was amazing that it arrived not empty, cause the package had not been taped tightly shut and the Cd's were sliding out the side of the packet when I got it - all were there and the shrink wraps were unopened though!

Now you've upset my karma!
