There are plenty of 'proper/real' broadcasters around today though: Andy Kershaw, Stuart Maconie, Mark Radcliffe etc. And there were plenty of 'personality' ones, Noel Edmonds, Dave Lee Travis etc in his day. I don't think that much has changed in that respect. |

I was always impressed when he was interviewing guests. If the guest said something which raised a question in my mind, John would ask that question, rather than just sticking to a script. I often wish all interviewers would be like that. |
