UK: SAD session in Barrow - 8th January

The very thing for folk suffering from Seasonal Adjustment Disorder, seasonal penury or the eighth day of withdrawal after a monumentally stupid New Year's resolution. The first session in ordinary time is hereby rolled out, to be held in the Six Bells, Barrow, on the evening of Saturday 8th January 2005.

Jo, our utterly lovely and supportive landlady will kindly lay on the customary groaning table of comestibles, which is again being underwritten by Stella the Dangerous Dog.

Please note- though it is a SAD session, not all songs need to be by Leonard Cohen, and not all tunes need to be laments!

The 8th of January is the day the Americans defeated the British at the Battle of New Orleans in 1815. Sad indeed, if you were General Packenham.

"And they ran through the briars
And they ran through the brambles
And they ran through the bushes
Where a rabbit wouldn't go.
They ran so fast that
The hounds couldn't catch em
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico...."

How apt, Father and SINS, as Bloke is oft to be heard barking out the very same song in our sessions. Perhaps Hollywood should make a film about it? It would make a refreshing change to have a war film based loosely on fact.

Indeed, Skippy. I'll be sure to bark the self same song out on the 8th. Altogether now,
In eighteen fourteen we took a little trip........

Now we're all down about last night's solstice fun having been and gone, we can look forward to the SAD session in January. Saturday 8th, to be precise. Hopefully we will see Lady Sophia and the Hull Responsible & Considerate Smoking Club there. Happy new year.

If it's a SAD session, may I offer you "Season's Bleatings" instead of Greetings. Will Pantomime season have started by then?

We took a little bacon and we took a little beans,
And we travelled down the river to the Town of New Orleans.
Best wishes.

Just as a point of interest the 8th January is the Birthdays of no less than Elvis Presley, David Bowie, and Shirley Bassey so a grand day for some really. Why so sad ?

I'm looking forward to it, despite the back end of a real stinking cough which will probably make me hack all the way through and be even more unable to sing than normal. Have pity on the bloke if he stays away from smokers and doesn't sing - or would that be a reason for rejoicing???

Might be there if Mrs. Johnny's up for it, otherwise two nights out on the trot could be the precursor to divorce! (LOL).
