Napper & Bliss

Going to see on Monday night. Have consulted with the oracle and the song I was previously trying to remember which they sang at York Folk Club was apparently a Billy Joel song called something like Down Easter Elixis. Last word spelling a bit iffy, but should be recognisable. Hope its on their list of songs for Monday.

It's the "Downeaster Alexa", ChorusGirl - one of my favourite Billy Joel songs, which did not make it to the wider consciousness. I like the way Tom & Tom do it - though the original recording with its seagull sounds etc is something special.

Love to be there tonight, but will probably have to give it a miss. The hospital are threatening to let Mike out this evening and I'm not mean enough to leave him at home on his own!

First heard it (on the radio) a few years back.
Didn't know it was a Billy Joel song at the time (do now!)
Pretty sure Show of Hands did the version I heard.
Anyone know if could have been them?

What a great, Christmasy evening and weren't Tom and Tom brilliant.
Especially liked the song about turning to face the wind.
Best wishes, Mike.

Woodchip...Can't find "Downeaster Alexa" on any of our 8 Show of
Hands CD's. Do they have a different title or maybe they have more CDs?
Twas an excellent do at Lincoln FC's Christmas do tonight. The two Tom's made it a special night.
We know who Chorusgirl is but mum's the word. Daren't say!!!

Wish I could have been there. I was holding Mike's (other)hand until the morphine kicked in then I just came home and crawled into bed.

I've fetched him from the hospital this morning and he is looking miserably at his guitars and complaining that I found every bump in the road btween here and Lincoln! I think I'll start him a thred of his own.

Good old google - I'm not going daft - there's lots of references when I typed in 'Show of Hands downeaster'
Seems you've not enough SoH CDs dear Georgian S
One is called...Covers
HMCD12 Covers
Featuring 13 cover versions - Wond'ring Aloud, Rigging it up Duncannon, Willin, No Song to Sing, Corinna Corinna, The Setting/Mary from Dungloe, Downeaster Alexa, Fake plastic trees, Love in Vain, Courting is a Pleasure, Roaring Water Bay, Don't Give Up, Waterloo Sunset

I've trawled though old tape & mini disc recordings off the sadly withdrawn Henry Ayrton Show - and found the track in question!
No date on disc, but reckon it to be tween 2000 and 2002 (earlier rather than later.
Tom B's a SoH fan - wonder if he heard it first on Henry? (It was our local programme) - will try to find out.

Sorry dear Guest but you are getting your wires crossed somewhere. Not only do I not have enough as you say but I really don't have any! Not sure why you thought I might have.
Best wishes, Mike.

Brilliant night - really enjoyed it - Tom & Tom enquired how Mr. Sooz was too. Thanks to the organisers - candles, minces pies, sausage rolls, crackers, party poppers the lot!! Some forgot to take off their party hats before going to the bar - got teased I believe.

O.K O.K it was me, I admit it! I went down to the bar with my party hat on and well had the rip taken out of me...think they were jealous that we were partying actually.
Best wishes, Mike.

Listen guys, thanks to all of you who came and made it such a good night. Travelling audience discovered that beer and gravity don't mix! Dave Start realised that his cold was better, Loretta realised that being a famous media star was no bar to being allowed to perform, et.c.et.c. the two Toms were brilliant and all in all it was really enjoyable all round.

Thanks for the continued support with the club, it was one of those nights when it was a real pleasure to be around and to see people letting their hair down!

Here's to many more of them in 2005.

Cheers and Merry Christmas
Gaucho
PS hope Mr Sooz is able to caress Madam Lowden again soon!
