My Mum who has smoked for most of her life since her teens, gave up about ten years ago but has just recently been diagnosed with lung cancer! Glad I gave them up and just feel sorry for those who can't find a way to do the same. Believe me I know how hard it is. Best wishes. |

I asked them ...after they had been here some while, if they had seen the town (Preston) or been out with some of the staff and they said no..so I offered to take them out for the day! I told them I would knock them up at around 8am in the morning and was greeted with howls of laughter. To knock someone up in US apparently is to get them pregnant. O.K so I took them out to a nightclub and one of them asked me "Do you shag" which allowed me to have my own back...Shag was at that time a dance in US which had not reached UK...Shag in the UK was well we all know the answer to that. The question still remains whether today's most popular and widely-sold tobacco products contain more harmful additives than in the past. Many sources contend that they do. I know that arsenic is among the substances found in cigarettes, along with a whole lot of other stuff with unrecognizable names. The reason for "enhancing" smokes in this manner, supposedly, is to make them even more addictive than they already are -- a pretty insidious marketing ploy. Smoking straight unadulterated tobacco -- if you can find any without growing it yourself -- would probably be downright *healthy*, compared to inhaling the fumes generated by commercially-manufactured ciggies. |

We were young and stupid and we believed him. As kids we used to stare in wonder as he nodded off in his chair with a lit cigarette, that never managed to burn down to his mouth and a pile of ashes on his chest. He might have been right, he lived to 87, but I would put it down to blind luck. |
