17 Dec 04 - 08:34 AM (#1359619) Subject: BS: Gaelic Goddess Busts Cherry in Public... From: Amos I had a wunnerful phone call from our own Gaelic Goddess, Áine, last night. She was completely exhilarated at her debut public performance, playing and leading her Girl Scouts in singing at an assisted living home. It was a smashing success, and she had boldly stepped up and overcome 20 years of misgivings and apprehensions about performing in order to do it. This was a major step forward for her. Not only that, but she is performing Saturday morning at 10:30 Mudcat Time in her graduating presentation as a solo belly-dance artiste! And she's full of confidence and delight at the prospect. Her husband will be chaperoning, I believe, and the Dallas Fire Department will be sending a stand-by unit in case. Congratulations. darlin'. on breaking that thing twice!! and conquering the terrors of public performance! A |

17 Dec 04 - 04:51 PM (#1359972) Subject: RE: BS: Gaelic Goddess Busts Cherry in Public... From: Áine Boy howdy, does Amos know how to out someone or what!?! ;-) Yes, Mudcat boys and girls, I did it - in front of the gods and everybody - I played guitar in public for the very first time! My Junior Girl Scouts were very impressed (hey, they're only 10 years old - easy audience!). My stage fright strategy was just NOT to think about doing it - just DO it. And it worked. Now, we'll just have to see about tomorrow morning . . . the 'audience' will be only about four feet away from me - and even with my glasses off, I can still see faces at that distance (grimace). My strategy for my dancing will be chanting silently to myself . . . Don't look at their faces, look at the wall, don't look at their faces, look at the wall . . . I'll be dancing to a slow 'Kashlimar' rhythm, wearing a self-made costume of blue, silver and purple spangly stuff. Here's hoping my stitches hold! ;-) I just want to thank all my Mudcat buddies who have told me all these years that I really could do it - I love you all!! Thanks for being there for me. Big hogs and snugs, Áine (the Dancing Gaelic Goddess, if you please (hahahahaha)) |

20 Dec 04 - 06:28 PM (#1361902) Subject: RE: BS: Gaelic Goddess Busts Cherry in Public... From: Áine Thanks everybody! ;-) And catspaw is correct, two years ago I was in a wheelchair and looking at some serious back surgery. That was the main reason I got into the dancing, for the therapeutic effect (Dear Hubby is laughing as I write this - but it's true!). This dancing gig is the best thing I've found to strengthen my back without a lot of stress on it. (And Dear Hubby says, "It's the BEST money I ever spent!") So, that's my three fantastic, never before done by me things for 2004: Public performance on a guitar, belly dancing in public, and learning to sew so I could make my own costume. Wow! And I'd never had been able to do any of it without you fantastic, kick-butt, shake yer booty Mudcatters telling me I could it. Y'all are just the best what ever was! Must dash, I have to go practice my 'walking shimmy' and 'triple arch hip rolls' (hahahahahaha) All the best, Áine |
