As Mudcat is getting increasingly difficult to get to Where is everyone now feeding their forum frenzy?
As much as I like Mudcat for all its jolly banter,(so many other forums seem somewhat straight laced)If its never on its not much use

another spot to find Mudcatters is The Annex -
http://www.jonbanjo.com/forum/default1.asp

The Annex

Jon created that site for Mudcat members to discuss non-music related matters, some of us congregate there every night/day, others only visit when Mudcat is down. Folkinfo is Jon's other site!

sandra (really a Mudcatter but not on this version of Mudcat, tho I dunno why)

Well some of us go and do other stuff like, read a book.... I can recomend 'Bounty' by Caroline Alexander, a true story of the infamous mutiny.

Of course, when Mudcat is down, it means that I get to bed before midnight!

I suggest the Jolly Potters on Hartshill, Stoke-on-Trent, as a perfectly reasonable aternative to Mudcat. Several small bars, a good selection of real ales, with a variety of guest beers.

It's a good idea to bookmark these, which may or may not be useful when you can't get the 'Cat through the usual approach:

"Buddy" is an alternate server I guess. As JennyO said in the Help Forum, if you get into Buddy, you will find that the drop down quick links menu doesn't work - however with a bit of tweaking of the URL, you can get into them.

Whatever you do, please don't post links using the "buddy" moniker. The above is fine because it tells people an alternate server then can use when www.mudcat.org is down - but if you post a blue-clicky link to a song at Buddy today, it won't work next year when buddy is replaced by Brunhilde. There are instructions for internal links in the FAQ, but basically, you post everything after the "org" from an URL in an internal link. [ <a href=/thread.cfm?threadid=77326>this thread (click)</a> ] is all you need for a link to this thread we're in now.
I'm still editing out the "shorty" and "ragtime" links people posted in years gone by.

as I was typing in my name the #$%^&* thing posted.

Jon has 2 sites - The Annex & folkinfo, The Annex is basically a place to socialise, folkinfo is for songs etc. As I don't use chat, I had really forgotten there is a chat section

Actually Sandra, to be pedandic, Jon does not have a site. I did start them but Pip took over the Annexe some time ago and my role is little more than tech support. Pip also took over folkinfo although I think she does see that as more of a caretaker role while I've been ill and again, I'm responsible for the tech side. Both sites are financed entirely by Pip.

Of couse, both sites have others that help a great deal in admin, tech advice and last but not least, contributions.

Oh and the chat, I'm not sure there is a chat section and there is no link to it that I can think of outside the thread. As far as I remember, it was really only a quick job put up to help some people from Mudcat who wanted a chat out during another "Mudcrisis" (the move???) than anything else and was left there as it doesn't cost us anything.

Charlie, when the usual Mudcat page has been down, this address has been working -

http://207.103.108.99/threads.cfm

You can only get in as a guest on this one, but it's better than nothing!

Max is getting ready to shut the entire forum down. Which explains why he isn't doing anything about Martin gibson. He could care less.

here is where to go to chat weith other mudcats
if you cannot get in here...http://www.folkinfo.org/chat.asp
and when i hear about the shutting diwn directly from max i will believe it. but from an anonymous guest with zero credibility rating,
and no way to check for accuracy and no identification,
it is not worth the pixels needed to show it on the screen.
