They have unveiled a statue to the great man on the banks of the Royal canal in Dublin. Have scoured the web to no avail trying to find pictorial evidence.Can anyone help?

Come listen to me story; its about a nice young man.
When the guards they wasn't wanting him ye could hear him sing a song,
It could be crude and very rude, and scurrilous in image,
As it rang out loud above the crowd crossing the Carlisle Bridge.

This young man he wrote a play that occasioned quite a scandal,
Provisionally and officially the irate called him a vandal;
Quick as a wink he took a drink to drown the vituperation,
To even the score he drank some more to his devalerastation.

Fifty years have passed and gone, and all his sins are shriven,
In our euro republic even republicans can be forgiven;
By the Royal Canal, in bronze banal, a statue to him they've erected,
But its hidden right well out of sight where it cannot be detected!

Would it look anything like this?

Anyway, I bet it has a pint glass in his hand.

ossonflags,

Can't find a full pic of it either, but there's a partial pic of it here, and a description of it in the Irish Examiner for 12/09/2003:

The piece which depicts Behan sitting on a park bench also features a singing blackbird with its plumage made up of some of the author's favourite tunes including An Ciul Fionn.

Sculptor John Coll said he took his inspiration for the piece from Behan's creative side rather than his destructive one "before fame, fortune and drink got the better of him".

The sculpture was designed so that the figure would appear eye- to-eye with anyone sitting on the bench as the writer loved interacting with the ordinary people of Dublin, said Mr Coll.

Knowing Bord Faultcha, I'd wait until they deliver before commenting upon their service.
