We'll see. Sure had fun singing last time.

I have a spare room and extra beds - up to six, I think. So don't let the drive get in the way. Maybe we can get Linn to cook breakfast again. If not, I can. Lots of coffee, eggs, bagels, whatever.

Sounds good, Sins (and put us in for one of the bedrooms).

WARNING!!! Do not, I repeat DO NOT follow Sinsull's directions! Get her address and go to Yahoo Maps which has the best directions of the different sites I've tried. Especially do not ask Sinsull for the names of Exits off the Maine Pike or 295. Just remember, I've warned you.

To be fair, it wasn't just the inaccurate directions -- the Maine Turnpike Authority's signage was atrocious! They'd recently renumbered all the exits and previous exit numbers were only readable as you went PAST the exit. And the reflective verbage on the signs wasn't reflective. Very very tricky to read in the dark and the rain.

At least I'd actually been to Mary's house (but, alas, from her OLD house!) before and Tom and I were at least conversant with the general layout of South Portland and Portland.

Tom had muttered things like "I'm never coming to Maine ever again" and the like. But by the next morning he'd forgiven Mary for the less than optimal directions and had had a wonderful time at the party and was looking forward to doing it again. And I have since gotten much much better directions from Yahoo Maps. Of course, that won't help the Maine Turnpike Authority's problems.

Maybe Capt. Morse could provide the longitude and latitude and we could just input the data to the new GPS units we got for Xmas.

It's easier to find the 2nd time around. So carpool with someone who's been there.

Listen me hearties and mark well what I do say,

From the Maine turnpike, take exit 45 (formerly 7) go straight through the toll gates until you hit US route one. You must turn either right or left. If you go right you will get lost, so, go left toward the center of town.(East) Pass the RR yards on your right. At the first MAJOR intersection, (Cash Corner) take a right on Broadway.
Continue in the right lane until you see Amato's sandwich shop.....[address deleted] See you there.
Sinsull's address deleted per request. Contact Sinsull for the past part of the directions, and address and phone.

Jacqui and I have taken to wearing our Getaway buttons around the neighborhood and it worked. We have netted one eager 60s folkie Mom with a fiddler son and his group. Mom is a defimite. Hope she can snare the group. And pray for me that there is a banjo player in the bunch.

Amos-

Did you inspire this ditty:

In Boothbay Harbor there lives a whale,
And she eats codfish by the bale,
By the hat box,
By the pillbox,
By the shoebox and the schooner!

Her name is Daisy and she's a peach,
But don't let Amos within her reach,
Or Mudcats,
Or Dogfish,
Or Chocolate Ice Cream Sodas.

She probably still misses you.

So far the weather looks good - mid 30s and sunny. Hope it holds. I would appreciate an approximate head count and a heads up if you plan to spend the night. I still have room for four more sleep-ins.

Currently we have Linn and Curmudgeon, jacqui and Kendall, Me, Charley (and Judy?), Brian and a newbie, Ranger1, Fred and Julia, Bobbi's friend Mike and his wife, Polly, Nor and Ely (?),

Is winterbright coming with an entourage from up north? Anyone call Captain Bunker (DOH!). Anyone missing?

It's really convenient having to drive past my mechanic's garage to and from work. This morning I was about 10 minutes from work when my catalytic converter fell off. (I love winter.) Turned around and dragged it(carefully)through the slop on the road back to Jim's Garage. I would have been only a few minutes late for work, but Jim was missing a seal so he had to send someone to the parts place to get it. As it was, I was only an hour and 15 minutes late -- which didn't really matter much as I'm alone today.

BTW, Tom's car was already there getting the strut repaired from the collision 2 weeks ago. We'll prolly be heading to South Portland tomorrow in the rental car.

Cars! Winter! Arghhhh!

Update:
We officially start at 6PM, Julia, but...
Tinker is on her way and will be here tonight.
Kendall and Jacqui will be here early to move furniture and, in Kendall's case, to curmudge.
So arrive whenever but early may mean you will be put to work.

Linn - car trouble sucks! But I found a wonderful treasure for you at the local Goodwill store. It is worth the trip.

Guinness and Shipyard Winter Ale are in stock. Red and white wine, bottled water. Food - lasagne (red with meat/white with veggies), assorted cheeses with green grapes, mini quiches, spinach dip with veggies and crusty bread, green salad, shrimp with cocktail sauce, chicken wings, coffee, tea, and maybe some mini apple pastries.

There is enough food for an army but little sweets so if you feel inclined...

Otherwise, all systems are go. If the weather decides not to cooperate, I will be the most popular lady at the local soup kitchen. Who knows? Maybe I will find a banjo player.

Some wonderful music and some people we hadn't met yet -- Mike's got a marvelous repertoire. Always nice to see Fred & Julia -- especially when we actually get a chance to TALK, too. And more conversation time with Tinker!

Kendall, thanks so much for your accompaniment on Joan Sprung's song, "Harbours of Home"!

That was fun! Let's see if I can remember who was here...Kendall, Jacqui, Tinker, Linn, Tom, Kat Logan and son Jonathan, Fred and Julia, Tami, Brian, Mike and Kathryn, Me. Am I missing anyone?

Highlights: Tami's first solo performance - a Norwegian children's song, Kendall's Old MacDonald's Deformed Farm, Linn's Harbors of Home, Jacqui's Beautiful Dreamer Parody, Brian's Jackass Song and his foray into C&W in English not Gaelic, Tinker's B.O.B. sans props, Kat's song about her son (title?) left me all misty, Fred and Julia's song about hearts carved in a door and so many others, Mike's Geraldine.

Favorite moments: Alice the Slut blissfully nuzzling Fred's ponytail while he just continued to sing. Wonder who he thought that was? And best of all watching Kendall laughing and singing and thoroughly enjoying himself. Good to have you back, Captain.

I feel so lucky to have my home filled with so much music, laughter, and genuine goodwill. Thank you all.

Hey, Kathie!

You decided to become legit and formally join Mudcat! Cool!

Speaking of pictures. I'm looking forward to your documentation of the evening. Will they be ready for viewing Friday at the Press Room?

I can scan them and send them to Pene Azul to post in the Events section. (Have you discovered that part of Mudcat yet?)

Well here I am back in New Jersey and definately wishing it wasn't quite so far away. I can definately put a high satisfaction rating on both the company and accomadations. Seamus and all four cats graciously let we humans provide the evening entertainment. The music was wonderful and the conversation great fun. SINSULL, Jacqui and I spent a bit of time conspiring over possible Getaway plans. Lots and lots of laughter...

I got to give Kendall the most obnoxious musical "HeartFrog" who plays achy breaky heart. Jacqui is talking about taking it on the road for photos. We'll see.....

Love all,

tinker

My only regret of the evening was that my camera batteries died before I got a picture of HeartFrog to send to pene azul.

Ah yes. How could I forget? Brian just couldn't get a tune down so he went off into the bathroom (not sure why he picked the bathroom when there were at least five other options) and noodled around with his flute. We all sat quietly outside listening to sixteen variations on a theme and then acted innocent when he came out triumphantly ready to perform BUT Kendall was too fast for him. Poor Brian had a look of dread on his face as he worried that he would lose the tune again before he got to sing it - a very lovely song about lilacs in time for his wedding day.

Fred did Mr. Eneos for me as well as a wonderful song that incorporated all the main characters of the "Quiet Man". Any chance of getting the lyrics, Fred?

Julia and Kat's voices are stunningly beautiful. What a treat to have my home filled with music.

March 25th is Good Friday. Does that work for people for the next circle? We could also do April 1 or 2? But April Fool's Day is a Friday and I don't want to lose the Press Room folks.

Mary

Tinker, that damned frog should be on the road...I suggest the Maine turnpike in the passing lane.

Despite it being Good Friday, there IS a Press Room session on March 25th so Saturday the 26th would be better for us. Good Friday at the Press Room is always an interesting night -- there are a few people absent for religious reasons, but usually there's a bunch of new people who show up to listen for the first time.

And it also tends to be a quieter, gentler session (at least for the early part of the evening).

Thanks for a great evening, Mary. Julia's been trying to convince me for years that I can sing. Guess she was right. Thanks for all the encouragement everyone. Oh, and the single malt didn't hurt, either! Looking forward to next time, and maybe I'll try something in English then!

It was great to hear you ranger1. We have talked a lot about singing but I never heard you sing before. Now you told me that you have some interesting recordings of family members singing. Why don't you dig those out.

SINSULL the bathroom seemed the logical place to go for some reason. Maybe it had to do with the general theme of the evening:-).

Hey ranger1- ...?? Don't tell me that single malt makes you sing in Norwegian. Was it Orkney scotch or what?

Thanks Sins, I'll reserve that bed. If it's on Saturday the 26th and PressRoom is the night before, I can do both!! Keep us posted.
Kathy
p.s. Can't wait to meet the frog, Kendall. Maybe you should send him to Helen Schneyer as a get-well present. Sounds like one of those gifts that should keep on giving...

Thank you, Charley Noble. You and your crew mates were missed. I hope to see you all at the next one. I'll make sure my camera batteries are charged. They went dead on me in the middle of the evening. I must say, no offense to kendall, that HeartFrog was really something to behold. Too bad we don't have a Mudcat Events video gallery.
