BS: Razz's State Of The Youngun's Address

Yo, Lissen up all you youngun's. We've made a real mess of this place (after swearing that we'd straighten out the mess that our parents made before us.) We're counting on you to pick up after us. After all, that's only fair. We've been picking up after you ever since you were kneehigh to a grasshopper.

If you're going to do that, you'll have to extend your right hand and reach out to help someone. That's right... remove it from your crotch. And, if you want to hear someone else talking, you'll have to take the earphones off. And, instead of having that scantily clad Britney Spears poster in your bedroom, go out and buy one of Mother Theresa.

And while you're at it... remember. Beat may be the thang, but melody is still cool.

You know, i was going to reply, but i found i couldn't remove my hand from my crotch long enough to type a proper answer. Now, excuse me while i go and listen to Britney Spears through headphones, mug some old grannies, and scrawl the F word on a bathroom wall- you know, all the things one must do to comply to a ridiculous stereotype...

My youngun, the Superhero, to the rescue!

Super-indieman!

I am very impressed with the young people I encounter on a regular basis. I find them to be incredibly intelligent, resourceful, honorable, talented, conscientious, interesting, and all kinds of other superlatives I can think of. I think they are going to save the world from us geezers.

(Now, if I can just get him to return my copy of Prokofiev's Alexander Nevsky... )

I've worked with a hundred and forty young'uns every day for thirty-eight years. They have their marketing-induced quirks, but I love 'em.

Come to think of it, a lot of you used to BE them.

Thanks CarolC.
Reminded me to find my copy of Sergy Eisensteins Alexander Nevsky. Now have I left it somewhere, or has a theiving evil person got it...

Besides, each generation tries to sort out the problems of the previous ones, normally with more powerful tools, and so the law of unintended consequences runs on...

Yeah, Carol: I know a lot of wonderful youngun's. My grandson Pa-Sha is one. He was inducted into the World Karate Hall Of Fame at the age of 13 and is now a Sensei, and is tutoring other kids who are working for their black belt. He just turned 15. He's also in the Student's Who's Who, volunteers at a food kitchen and is ten times the kid I was.

My "ridiculous stereotype" is just that... identified quite correctly by Blissfully Ignorant. But, it's all that you see on music videos. It's like every stereotype.. whether we're talking about Christians (tar and feathering them all as if they all are like the most extreme right wingers) or Bluegrass fans (belching with a torn t-shirt and a big beer belly.) Or is it bear belly? Or Conservatives as clones of Rush Limbaugh.

The first paragraph of this thread really was my point... once again, the older generation is turning over the world in a big mess, hoping the next generation can clean it up. While our generation fell far short of our goals, we did make some progress fighting prejudice on many levels. There's still a lot of work to be done, and I see a lot of promise in the younguns, too.

Didn't mean you to take me so seriously, Blissfully. You sound like a fine person to me, from your posts.

Alexander Nevsky. Funny that should be mentioned. I was just listening to that piece a couple of nights ago, thinking that I should send a copy of it off to one of younguns... along with the Lieutenant Kije Suite.

With a serving of Petrushka on the side...
