20 Feb 05 - 06:47 PM (#1415915) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: skip james' illinois blues From: Stewie Roberto, those lines are difficult to decipher. After listening repeatedly and 'time stretching', my best bet is that the lines could be: She don't let me have my boneless meat (x2) She never let me spend my money next week That is only a guess, but whatever I reckon the words he is singing begin with 'b' and 'm' - neither of them is 'love'. Regards, Stewie. |

I'm assuming from context that it's a place name, but if so, it's one that no longer seems to survive. I'm really curious about this now. |

He sang "Illinois Blues," but he didn't write it; Skip James wrote it, and the name "Banglin," or something that sounds like it, appears in James' 1931 recording, so Hart (born in 1963) couldn't have influenced him. Anyway, I can't find any reference to a place in Mississippi called Banglin. |
