BS: Shatner not himself or what?

Seeing William Shatner playing the role of an unintellegent breakfast cereal eater(In the UK) sort of makes me feel sorry for him in his demise. However, I wish I could earn the kind of money he does for doing silly adverts...what do you think?
Baest wishes, Mike.

"SORRY"????? You've gotta be kidding. No one else enjoys the lustre of fame and notoriety which William Shatner basks in daily. Not even Neil Young. Trust me on this. I've never seen anyone who enjoys jokes at his own expence as much as Bill Shatner.

he'd have to enjoy them... there's little else aimed his way

Sorry LH but the ads he appears in here are so puerile and lowering in our estimations of the man we knew......He seems to be clinging to his stardom of the past in the hope of selling cereals....Is he short of money?
Best wishes, Mike.

He hasn't been feeling himself, lately. Found someone else to do it for him.

I think he does it partly for the money, but mostly just for fun. That's my theory.

Whatever he does it for, he seems to be on the same diet as Elvis. Either that or he's eating the packet as well as the cereals. It would need heavy duty equipment to beam him up nowadays.

How old is he now? Seventy-something. Isn't he entitled to "let himself go" at some point? :)

The man doesn't know what being himself feels like, and never has; in his case it is no defense, as there is so little to know.

Money? If I had his money, I'd burn mine. Some of those ads are bad but thre's one or two that make me laugh because of the silly, deranged look on his face. A true artist.

No, Shatner isn't himself! He hasn't really been himself since that transporter malfunction in the second Star Trek movie. Or was it the third? The one where he yells

KHAAAAAAANNNNNN!!!!!

quite loudly. Anyway, some key little parts of W.S. seem to have not made it back to where they were supposed to be and some little parts from someone else seem to have been substituted for them and, well, poor Bill just hasn't been the same since.

I can take a joke as well as the next guy. That should be obvious by now. I'm not bothered in the least by people's jibes at my expense, their little scenarios of judgement and castigation. I know sheer envy when I see it. I've been dealing with it for years.

But there is a limit. There is a point at which even I begin to lose patience and not suffer a fool any longer.

Amos, you have long since reached that point. You, sir, are a pathetic poseur, a man who sits idly on the sidelines of life delivering pompous and wordy attacks on your betters...people who actually DO something. People like me.

I have accomplished a good deal in this life, Amos, and I know that must really rankle with you, sitting there with nothing to boast but a lot of wind and a large vocabulary. Well, I've got your number, mister. You're an empty gasbag. You're a posturing pimple on the face of humanity. A nobody A numbskull. You couldn't act your way off a plank.

You have chosen to engage in a vendetta against me, because I represent something you will never have, Amos. Shall I tell you what it is? But I don't have to! You already know. The fact is, Amos, I outshine you in so many ways that it really has to stir pity. I would pity you. Yes, I would. But I'm not going to. I've decided you don't really merit my pity. Not until you gain a little perspective and humility. Think about that the next time you get all worked up to launch another sally against me, my career, my horses, my beautiful daughter, and all the other stuff that convulses your nasty little jealous mind with rage and hatred.

I am the stuff of real dreams, Amos. The dreams of common men and kings. I am the sweet smell of success. That's what's really got you by the short and curlies, and you know it.

Decidely yours,

William Shatner

It takes a truly great man to understand how to make a very lucrative life for himself by lampooning himself!

The man would have to have a multi-layered grasp on the understanding ofpride & humility, as well as a wonderful talent at looking at himself as others see him.

The Man is SHATNER!!!

Dear Bill:

You hired a speechwriter at last, did you? Good job, and a clever one, if no poet, by the looks of it. It was that long-haired hippy commie pinko faggot Canuck that hangs around your bins hoping for some of your coffee grounds by any chance, was it? I would be careful letting him within the pale, sir -- he is the type who will never leave.

Anyway, thanks for the yucks, pal. Good luck with your weight problem, your flat-lined emotional profile, and your, um, highly-accomplished breakfast cereal adverts.

No one's yet mentioned that Shatner currently stars in a very successful TV series here in the US: "Boston Legal" on the ABC network. He plays an aging but still-practicing attorney in the early stages of Alzheimer's Disease. Far from being "in his demise" as Georgiansilver puts it, he excels at playing pathetic figures! (One might say that that includes the role of Captain Kirk!)

And he does indeed love to lampoon himself; anyone remember his guest role on "3rd Rock from the Sun" as the pompous Big Giant Head? (Talk about typecasting!)

Good news for Shatner-philes! It isn't really him in those comercials. It's his stand in, a part Cree Canuck named Big Bird, from Aurelia. Or something like that.

No, it's the evil Kirk from that Star Trek episode where the transporter malfunctions and creates two Shatners.... a nightmare for his co-stars apparently.

Even alone, he can be quite intimidating for co-stars, I hear.

I liked that scene in one of the Trek films where he meets the shapechanger who morphs into an exact double of himself, after it was yeat another female alien he made out with.

Kirk: "I can't believe I kissed you."

Alien: "It was probably a dream come true".

Well, it was for the alien, anyway. Imagine the thrill of actually getting inside Kirk's skin...actually being him! What a turn-on, eh, Amos?

omigod! There are 10 (count 'em 10) Shatner threads in a row (or a column I guess you'd have to call it).

What is the Cat coming to?
