Song/Session North Kent 13 April

The song/session in the Ship Lower Stoke (North Kent, England) on the 9th March was so well received that the locals are ALL nagging Sally the landlady to let get us to do it again, and she is keen too, so it will recur on the 13th April (not the 14th as I have just said on the original thread, oops) and become regular, second Wednesdays. Whether we will always be able to go on until 2 am is I imagine open to doubt!

We drank the barrel of Speckled Hen empty.

Had good reports about this. I'd like to come along. Maybe I can persuade the eye of a fish to give me a lift home!

Refresh.

There was no music last night, but there was a power cut over the entire peninsula from about 9.15 to well after midnight, so the pub was lit by candles and firelight.

Can someone with an old alarm clock arrange the same for our Wednesday, the atmosphere even without music was wholly wonderful?

I think, Don, you would need insulated ones - the grid supply to the whole peninsular is pretty pokey!

But if you bring a chainsaw there are several local telegraph poles that hold up local electricity distribution wires so you might be able just to knowck out the pub and a few surrounding houses!

Mindblaster, look forward to seeing you.

Two things. First, I now know the site of the line break that took the peninsular out. It's on a back road called Roper's Lane. So if anyone has a suitable tug and a towrope, we know how to get the candlelit atmosphere on the 13th. Actually Sally was thinking about making at a candlelight and lantern-lit session which would be rather fine (so long as the flags on the ceiling don't catch fire)! But remember where you put your capo and stuff like that, as the braille search for it might make you new friends (or enemies).

Secondly, we are going to have to live up to our reputation. The Speckled Hen is going so well that Sally is getting an extra barrel in that week, and if we don't drink it my name will be mud.

The Spotty Bird is going so well the order has definitely been doubled.

It is also confirmed that we drank the whole barrel last time, and I want to know how, as of the singers, Slats arrived late, as did Mike who was driving , and Fisheye and WYZIWIG were both driving, and John's relative was on Guinness, so that leaves me, Royston, Simon and John, plus audience, to have consumed most of 72 pints. This does not seem likely, although I admit being unable to remember...

I went down to Rainham (Kent) club today and did some plugging, and it looks as if Maz and Dan and maybe a bunch of others will come up.

The more the merrier.

Speaking of which Derek Moore has a nice 18 month old J200.

I'm taking details over to the Greyhound tonight.

Fisheye is coming and I hope bringing a posse.

Jeff is coming.

Simon and John are coming.

I hope Royston is coming.

I'm going to twist the arm of the Barden of England...

It might be another good one...

Floor space and I think there may be one remaining spare bed space

I feel slightly miffed, of the 72 pints consumed last time at the Ship, Richard must have consumed at least 40% of these, as when I rang him the following afternoon, he could not explain where the morning had gone. Good night though

Well, Simon kept buying them and what's a folkie to do? Flattery of capacity will get you everywhere!

Looks like it might be tasty, I think Gray may come over from Maidstone, so beware of some seriously depressive WWII songs some (many) self written VERY tastefully arranged for one guitar. If he brings the bird's eye maple guitar prepare to be seriously amazed by its beauty. You will have to come to check the identity of the maker - I believe he has also made guitars for God (one certain Clapton).

Jeff, JohnM (very tasty Scottish trad unaccompanied singer) and Big growly Simon definite (ish).

Fisheye and with luck posse from South London.

Slats from about 10 pm. Maybe some others (perhaps Mike) from Waddard/Bishop Gundulf (and with luck Dead Horse and prancing Kay).

I think DonT is in too.

Not sure if Dave and Essex Girl can be there, but hoping.

I think we have critical mass!

I delivered posters and A-board announcements today, so there ought to be a good audience. Sprout is bringing his spoons (he is GOOD!) and Mad Mick is even bringing the missus (a rare event).

Now that my hangover is abating, I can (maybe) post sensibly. Not so many locals as last time, and about the same number of performers, but everyone was on top top top form and overall it was an evening the like of which is not often seen, largely thanks to some sparkling guitar interplay between Brian Rodgers (who was expecting to be home by midnight tee-hee) and Jeff. It really was wonderful.

Thanks to all who attended.

Next one is likely to be second Wednesday in May (ie the 11th) and I will start a new thread nearer the time.

The next one will be on THURSDAY the 12th May, not Weds 11th - I have to lecture on the Wednesday (and it is also the second anniversary of Jacqui's death).

I will start a new thread
