16 Mar 05 - 03:36 AM (#1435837) Subject: Shirley Collins on 'Start the week' toda From: Roger the Skiffler Just heard a trailer for BBC Radio 4 "Start the Week" at 9am this morning ( in 25 minutes time!). Shirley Collins will be on. She'll be talking about her song collecting with Alan Lomax as recounted in her book: "America over the water" (one of the books I got for Xmas). I'll be out on my morning walk (weight now steady at 11 stone!) but I (and you) can listen to it for a up to a week via BBC Online I expect. RtS |

I've now seen the "America over the Water" illustrated talk that she does several times, and can heartily recommend it. The book is also a very good read! |

It was on "Midweek" of course, NOT "Start the week", of course (DOH!!! Yet again!!)as Giok correctly said in his similar thread. Loved the book, especially the bit about meeting Mississippi Fred McDowell & Annie Mae, sounded as good as I hoped he would be from his recordings & sleeve notes!
