Lyr Req: Snake in the woods? / Dreadful Snake

From: price@math.wisc.edu

I've been snooping the forum with nothing to say for a while, but now need help finding the verses to the song below. I remember the chorus. ## I heard the screams, of a little girl/ far, far away__ ## Crying Daddy, there's an awful big snake ## Ran as fast as I could/through the dark and dreary wood_ ## But I reached my little girl too late

Any bells going off? I haven't been able to find it in DT, but I thought someone here might kknow anyhow. -thanks, Adam

p.s. I have a set of lyrics to "Colored Aristocracy" that I was hoping to send in, but I haven't got any way to produce a MIDI file. Should I submit it anyhow?

I thought I heard the screams of my darling little girl
She cried Daddy there's an awful dreadful snake
I ran as fast as I could through the dark & dreary woods
But I reached my darling to late

I can't recall any more & I'm not sure how close this chorus is to being right. I believe the name of this bluegrass song is "The Dreadful Snake". I'd say there's more to this song than meets the eye. I'm sure someone else will pick up on this. Barry
