BS: Humor--lightbulbs & e-forums

Subject: BS: Humor--lightbulbs & e-forums
From: KathWestra

This was just too good not to share. It came from a folklorist who posted it on the public sector folklore listserve (PUBLORE). Just wanted you all to know that I have changed the lightbulb! Cheers, Kath

Q: How many e-list members does it take to change a light bulb?

1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed

14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently

7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs

1 to move it to the Lighting section

2 to argue, then move it to the Electricals section

7 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs

5 to flame the spell checkers

3 to correct spelling/grammar flames

6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb"

another 6 to condemn those 6 as stupid

2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp"

15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct

19 to post that this e-list is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb e-list

11 to defend the posting to this e-list saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this e-list

36 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for

this technique and what brands are faulty

7 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs

4 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL's

3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group

13 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, just to add "Me too"

5 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy

4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"

13 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs"

I don't consider more than six years a short time.

What do we do with a burned out light bulb, earl-i in the morning?

Don't throw it away - photographers need them for their dark-rooms ;-)

At the risk of ending up as a category in the first post, why is this one stuck above the line, even with the BS prefix? Looks like a glitch in the system.

Has no one thought to have a one to one with the light bulb, perhaps offer it counselling in the (light) of its obvious failure to complete the task it was expected to undertake. It should be asked why it failed, what could have been done by management to prevent the failure and did it have any positive contribution to make for future light bulbs' longevity. Why did it feel the need for change?

See "Light Bulbs-Incadescent-Changing Policy/Best Practice" by the eminent luminary Phil A. Ment (Hodder & Staughton 1987).

How many French does it take to change a light bulb?

Well, first, there has to be a UN security resolution demanding a change - but only if the light bulb can be proved to be burned out and not just in a quantum state of flux.

Second, there should be an increase in the number and frequency of inspectors and inspections to determine that the light bulb is not just burned out, but a genuine threat to the rest of the world. There has to be a "smoking filament" or else the changing of the bulb would be considered unnecessary since the light bulb poses no threat to world stability, let alone in breach of said resolution by illuminating anything other than it's own space.

Third, there should be endless debate about the ramifications of light bulb change. How do we know the next light bulb will be a more co operative light bulb and illuminate our lives?

Fourth, France will in no way support a violent action in changing the light bulb. There must be a peaceful solution to this light bulb change; violent action is unacceptable.

Fifth, without a broad coalition that supports light bulb change, any action to change the bulb will be considered a breach of the "spirit" of the UN resolution regarding the li

And anyway should he/she really be tampering with the dead nightbulb, as traditionaly a dead light bulb is a symbol of darkness and a working light bulb as one of light. Changing the light bulb will completely alter the traditional character of the whole thing.
