Hi, I thought this was part of one of the many versions of "Easy Rider", "CC Rider", Etc. but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

If not part of CC Rider, can anyone tell me what song it is from?

I thought it was something like:

Look what you done done, *****, now my apron strings won't tie.

Thank you in advance.

"Careless Love"
^^
Love, oh love oh careless love (3x)
See what careless love has done to me

When my apron strings were long
You passed my window with a song

Now, my apron strings won't tie
You pass my cabin door right by.

What oh what will mother say
When I come home in the family way

She'll tear and bite her tongue
Cause she did the same when she was young

Tell me about it. I just saw this thread for what I thought was the first time. LOL. Glad to have been of assistance.

Ah! but the apron string problem can't hurt you. Mind you, tight clothing is not a problem only caused by pregnancy. Cheers, Joy

I sing a slightly different version but I don't know where it comes from.

Once I wore my apron low
You followed me through rain and snow

Now my apron strings don't meet
You pass me by on the other side of the street

I miss my mother and my father too
I left them all when I followed you
cheers
John

I have enquired in the past with no success about the MELODY to Careless Love and Let No Man Steal Your Thyme (Thyme it is a precious thing) Did someone think that W C Handy's tune fitted the Trad song better than the original , or did W C Handy 'borrow' the old tune ??

Search DT "A Soldier Boy" for a similar song.

My town put out an album of songs for the US Bicentennial. One of the songs was about "Ramble Away". There's a thread on a similar song:

Ramble Away

containing a referenct to apron strings with the feature that concerns you.

It occurs also in the Wallin version of 'Love has brought me to despair': CLICK HERE.

It occurs in many (more often than not actually) versions of the "Died for Love" family of songs. It was an extremely popular image. Cheers, Joy

Exactly. People often make the mistake of assuming that, just because songs share the odd verse, they "must" be related or even "versions" of each other. Not so. This particular "floating" verse is so common that its appearance in a song isn't really evidence of anything much.
