21 Mar 05 - 09:42 AM (#1439652) Subject: Kate Bush - Boy George From: mindblaster Some bloke said last night that Kate Bush was Boy George's cousin. Also he said that she was discovered by Jools Holland at The Swan pub in Blackheath Road. I think that this is a load of cobblers. For a start I reckon Kate Bush was famous long before Jools Holland. Can anybody shed light on this? |
21 Mar 05 - 10:00 AM (#1439663) Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: GUEST Squeeze's (Jools' first succesful band) first single was released in July 1977. Wuthering Heights was released the following January. However her record company had been nurturing her for at least 3 years as they realised what a talent she was, and didn't want to rush and therefore spoil her. Incidentally, She wrote The Man With The Child In His Eyes when she was 13. That's not to say they hadn't met before, and you don't have to be famous to "discover" someone if you have the right contacts. I reckon by the time she was old enough to go to the pub legally, her career was well under way anyway. |

21 Mar 05 - 11:27 AM (#1439722) Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: Long Firm Freddie Kate was discovered in 1973 (aged 15) by Dave Gilmour of Pink Floyd, and like Guest says, was kept under wraps for a few years by her record company. Kate was born in 1958 in Bexleyheath, Kent, whilst Boy George was born not far away in Eltham three years later. I haven't found anything to suggest they're related, though. Kate's releasing a new album later this year after a break of twelve years. LFF |

21 Mar 05 - 11:37 AM (#1439732) Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: GUEST Kate and her family lived for years in Court Road , Mottingham, London se9. Boy George lived in Eltham , London, se9. Jools Holland lived and played and drank in Blackheath , London Se10. All within two mile radius of each other, but no, none are related. And yes it was Dave Gilmour who nurtured Kate's early career. |

There was a person who went to The Rose and Crown Session at St Albans every Thursday, I think he played the fiddle, so it all adds up, who is supposed to be related to Kate. Nephew or cusion, or something. |
22 Mar 05 - 09:01 AM (#1440462) Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: GUEST,guest of 11.37am She has a brother Paddy, who has played on most of her albums. He is older than her and used to play the folk clubs and also for an english morris side. He then discovered 'world' music in a big way and now plays almost anything and everything. |
22 Mar 05 - 02:26 PM (#1440805) Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: Richard Bridge I think she makes the nastiest noise of anyone who ever was called a recording musician. Shudder! He, on the other hand, could sing. |
22 Mar 05 - 08:00 PM (#1441125) Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: MuddleC Dear Richard, you are confusing Kate with that Icelandic Bjork noise, I suggest that you listen to 'Common Ground -voices of Modern Irish Music' (Donal Lunny) and rethink your entire existence.. |

24 Mar 05 - 11:33 AM (#1442642) Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: GUEST,guest of 11.37am Boy George's mother was from Wellington St, Dublin. His father (O'Dowd) was also Irish, but can't remember where from, but it was the South. Kate Bush's mother was also Irish. And there the similarity ends. No, definitely unrelated. Both of fine voice though. But then again I also admire Bjork! |

But Boy George had already made it big then so on reflection I think it would be doubtful. I wonder how he would have gone down with a room full of pensioners LOL. |

26 Mar 05 - 08:47 AM (#1444159) Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: Hand-Pulled Boy Can't wait for the new CD. Any more info anyone? Kate has long been one of the UK's greatest talents although I can understand why some people may find her voice (and Bjork's for that matter) a little irritating. However, I love them both. I would even consider 3-in-a-bed with them although my wife wouldn't approve. |
26 Mar 05 - 02:54 PM (#1444249) Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: gnu Hmmmm. Something vague is tugging at my memory.... Kate and... Leonard Cohen? The absolute opposite of Boy. Am I dreaming? (Please forgive if already discussed... I didn't read all the posts.) |
