Tune Req: Shantyman's Hail

From: karen k

I'm looking for the tune to 'Shantyman's Hail' written by Fred Gosbee in 1984. The words are in the database but there is no tune and no reference to where one might be found. Can anyone help?

The chorus goes:

Hey ho! Roll and go!
Round Cape Horn to San Francisco
Shantyman sing, boys, pull on the line
And we're back in record time.

Thanks, karen

Shantyman's Hale can be found on the album CastleBay by Castlebay. I don't believe its on their second recording The Peat Fire Flame.

Sorry can't help on the tune. The Luther & the Hesper were two large schooners grounded on the river bank side by side, in Wacussette (sp?) Maine, I believe since the 30's. Recently they had fallen into such a condition as to be considered a hazard & were broken up & removed. Barry

Don't know about "Shantyman's Hail," but the songs "Wiscasset Schooners" and "Karl Edstrom and the Hesper" were both written by Lois Lyman and recorded by Gordon Bok on the album "Schooners."

Fred and Julia of Castlebay would be happy to help provide their tune; email them at: cslbay@gwi.net

And "Wiscasset" is the correct spelling of that town that let its two schooners rot and then hauled their bones to the dump.

Karen- My "Double Trouble" partner, Jean Farnworth, learned this song from Fred Gosbee. We have recorded it on our album, Soup To Nuts." MMario - Why not contact Fred Gosbe of the musical group Castlebay, the author of the song, and see what he can send you? I provided the e-mail above and it is still good. I'm sure he can send you a file in a variety of formats.

Charley - I was hoping someone who might actually know them would do the asking... but hey, okay.
