Admission won't be much - perhaps as low as two quid. You'll have a terrific time, hear wonderful music and meet some very friendly people. |

21 Oct 05 - 07:23 PM (#1588025) Subject: RE: Jack Hudson gigs - current schedule (UK) From: GUEST,wld similarly Belper folk club a few nights ago was absolutely terrific. And he must have easily pulled enough punters to pay the fee. I think people ARE waking up to the fact that we have something pretty special in Jack Hudson. The problem I suspect lies in the fact that in his hay day - there were two really influential folk journalists in the UK, Karl Dallas and Colin Irwin and I can't remember either of them writing about Jack. Also it was the time of the great traddy/contemporary face off of the 1970's and people just couldn't get their heads round the fact, that here was a bloke who could play Americana better than most Americans. Nowadays people are a bit more open minded. if there is a good melodeon player or a good ragtime guitarist - they would be welcome most places and the delineations that existed at one time don't seem to bug people so much. It is more of a meritocracy nowadays. |
