Lyr Req: It's Bad You Know (R. L. Burnside)

Subject: Lyr Req: She asked me why, so I went on and told
From: GUEST,Brian mtnfoke@yahoo.com

I heard a great Blues song on the local radio station, KPCW which is an NPR affiliate, here near Park City, Utah. I didn't call them right away and now none of the volunteer DJs seem to know what the song was. The lyrics that are repeated over and over very slowly and clearly at the beginning and end of the song are "She asked me why ... so I (possibly I just) went on and told her." There are some lyrics in the middle of the song which were more difficult to make out but the accompanying guitar is very classic, distinctive and possibly familiar Blues. Does anyone know the artist or song title? Please help! Thanks, Brian

I've been checking out T-Model. I think you are correct. Thanks very much for your help.

I was looking for the song title or artist associated with these Blues lyrics "She Asked Me So I Told Her". I received help from brucie who said he thought it was T-Model Ford. He is correct and I found the song. Unfortunately this is not the version I heard on the radio. The version I heard on the radio locally had lyrics that were actually "She Asked Me Why So I Went On And Told Her" and had much cleaner guitar sound. Does anyone know of another version, cleaner, not Dirty Blues, possibly by another artist.

Michael thanks but I looked at every single CD from Burnside and the song I'm looking for is not listed unless he has another title for it. So far the only version I have found is the one by T-Model and like I said it is definitely not the one I heard. The words were even slightly different from T-Model's version. I guess Burnside could have another title for the song but I have no idea what it would be or what CD it might be on.

Heard it on the radio today, so I called the station -- JUST FOR YOU!

Burnside calls it "It's Bad You Know". It's on his CD "Come On In".

Cheers,
Michael

Hey there Michael. I realized I never apologized for the multiple thread mistake I made before, sure thought I did but anyway sorry I can see how it makes it difficult to provide help when a guy does that. Anyway I just didn't know how the board works. In addition I must say, You Are The Man. I was going crazy trying to find this song. It turns out it was right under my fingertips so to speak as it is actually a free download from Fat Possum Records under Burnside on the CD you named (such a great song, I can't stop listening to it). Not sure I would have ever found it without your help. I find more and more all the time that with the occasional exception, there really are friendly, helpful people just about everywhere a person goes. Things must have been going in my favor the last couple of weeks not only did I find this song thanks to you but also located two others, one of which I had been trying to track down off and on for over two years believe it or not. Thanks so much again for your help.

                                 Cheers To You!

There are several copies of this recording on YouTube. Here's my transcription of the lyrics. The various phrases are spaced out with long musical interludes between them.

IT'S BAD YOU KNOW
As recorded by R. L. Burnside

It's bad, you know. (2x)

She asked me why; I just went on 'n' told 'er. (4x)

The engine[er] blowed [the] whistle; the fireman he rang his bell. (4x)

It's bad, you know.

She asked me why; I just went on 'n' told 'er. (3x)

It's bad, you know. (2x)
