Can someone please supply the chord changes for "Someday Soon" by Ian and Sylvia? Preferably key of C.
Thanks,

Here's a conversion chart for brucie's linked chords to make it in the key of C ('cause capo 5 can be a real bugger)

Am7 = Dm7
D7 = G7
G = C
Bm = Em
Em = Am

Thank you, John. I was gonna do that and got called away. I am also looking for a better site for the chords because although the chords seem right, when I 'hear' the song in my head the chords seems to be in different places in some of the lines (if that makes any sense to you).

Yeah, Brucie. The timing of the chords is "off". I think this is in Rise Up Singing. If I get a chance tonight I'll check it out. Or maybe I'll just play it and figure the timing.

SOMEDAY SOON (Ian Tyson)
------------------------
[Each chord is one measure, or if two chords are joined by a hyphen,
they make one measure total.]

Am7    D7    G - Gsus   G
[intro]

G      -    G/F#    Em                C             G
There's a young man that I know whose age is twenty-one
Bm                  Bm            C D7
Comes from down in southern Colorado
G    -   G/F#    Em - Em/D   C               G
Just out of the service, he's lookin' for his fun
       Am7          D7               G    G
Someday soon, goin' with him someday soon

My parents can not stand him 'cause he rides the rodeo
My father says that he will leave me cryin'
I would follow him right down the roughest road I know
Someday soon, goin' with him someday soon

D7                      D7          C                      G
But when he comes to call, my pa ain't got a good word to say
Em                     Em            A7               D7 - A7    D7
Guess it's 'cause he's just as wild in his younger days

So blow, you old Blue Northern, blow my love to me
He's ridin' in tonight from California
He loves his damned old rodeo as much as he loves me
Someday soon, goin' with him someday soon

[instrumental, same chords as verse and chorus]

When he comes to call, my pa ain't got a word to say
Guess it's 'cause he's just as wild in his younger days

So blow, you old blue northern, blow my love to me
He's ridin' in tonight from California
He loves his damned old rodeo as much as he loves me
         Am7       D7            G - G/F#   Em
Someday soon, goin' with him someday soon
         Am7       D - Dsus   D       G - G/F#    Em    C - D7   G.
Someday soon, goin' with him    someday soon

These look much better

Brucie,

It does look better. It pretty much agrees with RUS except they use regular chords where you have sevenths. To me it's a matter of taste, not right or wrong.

Great song, but not too easy to sing - and it was recently posted on the fantastic folk music blog, Keep the Coffee Coming.
My I&S favorites have always been 4 strong winds, of course, and Wild Geese.
At the song circle saturday, I'm planning to do Ian's version of Eileen Oge, and give a 2 sentence lecture on Percy French. Two sentences are all they will listen to between songs.
Hope Ian's new cd is good - and will have more Tyson songs to sing.
Chris

Chris in Wheaton, how 'bout a URL for "Keep the Coffee Coming"? You got me curious...

For what it's worth, I really like "Someday Soon," even more than "Four Strong Winds.

Isn't this a Steven Stills composition? He was involved with Collins at the time (she's the Judy Blue Eyes).

Nope, CStrong,

Definitely Ian Tyson. Judy did include this songs on one of her albums. However, its first appearance was on Ian and Sylvia's Northern Journey. That album predates Stephan Stills and Judy Collins' reported relationship by several years. You are right, however, that Judy is generally considered the Judy of "Suite Judy Blue Eyes."

Poppa G - add Mr. Google to your bookmarks - He's a good man to know. I should give him half my salary!
see http://katry.blogspot.com/ - Keep the Coffee Coming
and I also like - http://prewarblues.blogspot.com/
                         http://songsillinoismp3.blogspot.com/
                and http://www.reverendfrost.blogspot.com/
there's also a folk podcast from time to time on WNUR - the voice of the Wildcats -
put 'em on bloglines and that's it!

Eileen Oge - the Pride of Petrovar - was fun to sing at the Saturday circle - the big hits of the day though were "I'll be Your Baby Tonight" and "Run Come See, Jerusalem."

Chris, I am familiar with Google, but always like to get a person's input along with a simple answer. There's almost always more information (or, at least, more interesting information) that way.

A Google search would not necessarily have yielded the other three references you just provided ~ thanks for proving my point!

I think I re-read this old thread in its entirety. Several years back, at the Manitou Opera House (Manitoba) Ian introduced this tune with the line, "Here's the song that paid for the ranch ... " {royalties of course; Collins' version was a big hit}   Keep reviving old threads.
Keep well Keep safe Keep warm   & keep playing Someday soon

At New York’s City Winery on July 16 — a night billed as the Carnero Vaquero album release show — Tyson’s first words were, “The old cowboy returns to Gotham City — it sounds like a song to me.” He introduced the fourth song of his set by saying “This is a real old song. I wrote it just east of here — five or six blocks away. Where’s MacDougal Street? This song has been very good to me — it’s paid a lot of alimony.” Then he broke into his classic “Someday Soon,” which Ian & Sylvia recorded in 1964 and was covered by many artists, including Judy Collins, the Kingston Trio, and Suzy Bogguss. No Depression Gary Stoller POSTED ON SEPTEMBER 7, 2015

The song is based on his relationship with Sylvia, who came from Chatham, Ontario. Sylvia's father, Mr Fricker, worked in the white goods department of the Eaton's store, just around the corner from the record racks holding copies of Ian and Sylvia's albums. Every Friday night he went to a bar with my Uncle Peter. Ian was seven years older than Sylvia, and Uncle Peter said that all Mr Fricker talked about was the "pseudo-cowboy" who had "run off" with his daughter.
