Tune Req: Theme Song for TV Show 'Evening Shade'

A number of years ago, Burt Reynolds had the TV Show, Evening Shade" for a few years. During the first season or 2 the theme song was a lovely waltz tune played on violin. Does anyone know the name of the piece?

I played it from memory lastnight on mandolin and it has peaked a bit of interest with a fiddler in our folk group. I would like to find the music for it.

Thanks.

Glen Simpson

Here is a place to download the theme song--or at least one of them. Seems there were lots (or some anyway).

Can't say that I can tell you the theme, though it sounds a bit familiar (played by Ron Rutowski?), but I can give you a bit of news from Evening Shade.

While the school is still open, this year it was consolidated with the Cave City school district just down the road. Governor Huckabee and the legislature in their wisdom have seen fit to close all Arkansas schools with less than 350 students by combining them with nearby "partners", willing or unwilling. What the long term outlook for the school is, I don't know. I guess we'll see in the coming years.

Evening Shade never had a football team, one of the main premises of the TV show, and neither did Cave City for that matter. So the big matchups between the Evening Shade Mules and the Cave City Cavemen had absolutely no basis in fact. Evening Shade's athletic teams are the Tigers; their basketball teams do play in the Burt Reynolds Gymnasium, which was built with donations from Burt and other cast members and the sale of Evening Shade cookbooks. Volume I is sold out but you can still buy Volume II from the Evening Shade School http://eveningshade.k12.ar.us/cookbook/index.html

At least this all bumps the thread back up to the top. I'll ask around about the theme as linked by Brucie.

Sure sounds like something Jay Ungar would've written...

Thanks Brucie for the link. I wasn't playing it exactly right, but it's been 10 or so years. Isn't it a lovely tune? Could be Jay Unger, I wish I could find the title of the song.

Thanks again

Glad it was the one. I can't download it on the school computer, so I can't listen to it. Glad it helped.

Digging a bit deeper, I found that Craig Stuart Garfinkle is creditted with the theme from Evening Shade. I had assumed it to be a traditional American tune, but I guess it is only as old as the show. Theme for Evening Shade must be it's title.

Thanks all for the interest you have shown

Burt was walking up to the podium to receive an award for the show and he happened to think of a friend also from the south Dothan Alabama named Bobby Goldsboro. Honey See the Funny Little Clown. Burt asked him to write a theme. That is who wrote and sang the last version for the last season. Bobby has been a great songwriter/singer and blessed Dothan recently with a show just for us.

The theme for the last two seasons was indeed written by Bobby Goldsboro, as orchestrated and produced by myself.

I really enjoyed working on the show and am pleased to see people still remember it - a great cast!

Who sang a song in an Evening Shade episode that was something like, "20 years ago"? Sounded like Kenny Rogers and I never got to find out who it was....still remember it somewhat.
