BS: An Offer You Can't refuse!

And they call the offer Joe. Maybe this should be in the music section. It seems like for some people, Offer hunting season is 24/7, 365. I just wanted to go on record publicly saying that I greatly appreciate everything that you do, Joe. I think you are conscientious to a fault, and I'd hate to think what Mudcat would be if you finally got fed up and quit your non-paying job. If you didn't give your level-headed censorship in here, I think I'd end up so fed up with this joint that I'd give up on it.

I don't see the need for apologetics, Joe. I think your Momma must be proud of her little boy.

Your friend,

Jerry

This is a nice sentiment, but what threads like this ultimately attract are trolls and flames. PMs of support are more effective in the long run, not necessarily as a campaign/group effotrt but when you see a need, whenever.

I've sent plenty of PMs to Joe expressing my appreciation, oh nameless one. EVERY thread invites trolls and flames.. goes with the territory. I'm not asking everyone to agree with me. If that was the case, I wouldn't be dumb enough to start a thread. I just want to publicly go on record, praising Joe. If others don't feel that way, let them post their opinonions.

Right you are, Jerry. Joe has got to be one of the most patient people in the world. If I were in his position, I would have thrown up my hands in exasperation a long time ago.

Joe, thanks for doing what you do and doing it so well.

Jerry, if you want to interpret as an attack what is shared by someone with a lot more time racked up here than yourself, go right ahead and defensively "counter"-attack. These threads make things worse, every time. If you can't learn from a heads-up and feel that every time Uncle Jerry is challenged to rethink something dumb that it's an attack, that's on you. A thread like this is just part of the endlessly repeating cycle, and it's not helpful.

Actually, Nameless, I think you're wrong,. Communicating something genuinely felt is never a mistake, and adding a little morale to Joe's life is surely not a bad thing. Why are you waving your arms about?

Is this the sort of offer you mean Jerry?

Yes, I think you may well be first on the list, my friend. It's time for you either to shut up, or to use a name and take responsibility for what you have to say. If you continue to refuse to use a name, you will be come a non-person around here, and every single message you post will be deleted.
Free speech is fine, but you're just a pain in the ass.

Amos, I am waving my arms hoping people will read the sign instead of shooting the messenger. The sign reads:

HERE WE GO AGAIN.
NEXT TIME THE CYCLE RUNS,
IF ANY OF YOU ARE THINKING OF DOING THIS YOURSELF--
MAYBE DON'T DO IT.
I SUPPORT JOE TOO.
PM's WORK BETTER THAN THREADS LIKE THIS.

Cuz some people actually can learn from even a poorly-posted or anonymously-waved sign. Really they can.

Glad you support Joe, too.

Luv ya, Joe.

Joe sends me more admonitions--gentle and otherwise--than anyone I know. Usually because I've done something that screws up how records and retrieval mechanisms function. I like the guy and appreciate the work he does on and for the Mudcat. He's a gem, and folks oughta know that.

Subject: RE: BS: An Offer You Can't refuse!
From: GUEST,Sign-Waver

No, Amos.... I have not told anyone what to do (unlike yourself) nor do I have any powers that allow me to control others (unlike some folks appear to fear). I fully support that people have a right to be complete idiots as long as they wish to be.

I offer information based on observation, only. Because I also support that people can use information to aid their learning.

See, it's not aimed at you (or anyone) personally. (Not everything is actually about "you.") Some of it's about new people who may not yet have seen this cycle run several times each year. Some of those folks aren't necessarily destined to be "me too"-ers.

I support Joe by pointing out that a thread like this not only engenders nastification in this thread, it usually results in encouraging folks posting here to go find whatever fray Joe's embroiled in, and perpetuate that one too. That results in more Joe-centered bullshit, not less.

Really, haven't a good number of us seen this over and over again?

Well spotted Amos. The first one I've seen with good English grammar, but it falls down on the point of not having done enough research to realise that there is no such thing as a "Rolls Royce family". Does anyone really fall for these stupid, ill conceived scams?
