accordion & mayonnaise

Martin Gibson started a thread about mayonnaise, I suppose just because he wanted somebody to talk to. I did, too, so I added a recipe for Seduction Dinner #46. If you don't know about Seduction Dinners, see the works of M.F.K. Fisher.

Well, see Fisher for the dinner part. For the seduction part, consult Dr. Ruth.

I have a recording of French favorites played on accordion. Such music would be a good background for this particular Seduction Dinner. Don't forget the candles.

I believe the familar French sound of cabaret accordian is a genre called "musette." It certainly evokes a distinctly romantic feeling ~ makes me nostalgic for a time and place where I've never actually been (Paris, sometime back before I was born).

So if the french accordion music is called musette you should consider some irish music from the county of Mayo to get the true mayonaise sound....

I think the genre is called "style (pronounced 'steel') musette". Musette also refers to a type of reed voice on an accordion as well as a kind of bagpipe-type instrument.

The continental European music is definitely some of my favorite. Although if I had a seduction dinner that was to be accompanied with Style Musette music, I don't think it would include mayonnaise. Warmed brie, a nice crusty French bread, some nicoise olives, a very light tossed salad with green leafy lettuces, and hazlenut oil and champagne vinegar dressing (with freshly ground salt)... I guess that would do it. You don't want to put anything too heavy in your stomach right before going into the swimming pool.

Good points, everyone.

Swimming pool?

I kind of imagined the mayonnaise was a variation on bodily lubrication, like "Last Tango in Paris" ! :)

Dusseldorf Mustard - the type in the tube = goes well with the acordian, is an aphrodisiac, and can provide warming lubrication.

I've an idea... lob the accordion into the pool and sit by the side, eating frites with mayonnaise, whilst watching as the accordion fails to learn how to swim and discovers that no matter how many times you seal the bellows, water will get in somewhere!

LTS -mayonnaise lover and accordion hater.

"can provide warming lubrication"

You are supposed to PLAY the accordion, not INSERT it...

Now, if we're not careful we'll get onto the banjo-type jokes soon.

(I'd better watch my step or my diatonic button accordion will be for the chop!)

I wanna hear from somebody who tried the recipe. It's good.
