I picked some wild mountain flowers for Mary And told her I loved her today She said that we never could marry For her mother would stand in the way. That's all I can remember, but I'll listen a lot closer the next time I hear it. |

15 May 05 - 09:06 PM (#1485726) Subject: Lyr Add: WILD MOUNTAIN FLOWERS FOR MARY (A Mills) From: Jim Dixon Copied from http://www.bluegrasslyrics.com/all_song.cfm-recordID=sp1447.htm WILD MOUNTAIN FLOWERS FOR MARY a.k.a. WILD MOUNTAIN FLOWERS Allen Mills We grew up living close to each other, Went to school, sat side by side, And I longed for the day when I would ask her If she would be my loving bride. CHORUS: I picked some wild mountain flowers for Mary And I told her I loved her today, But she said we never could marry, That her mother would stand in the way. Her daddy died when she was very young, And she never knew the love of a man. I tried so hard to make her happy, And tried to make her mother understand. Now my days of youth are gone and I'm so happy, And my time isn't very far away. I picked some wild mountain flowers for Mary, And placed them on her grave today. I picked some wild mountain flowers for Mary, And placed them on her grave today. [Sung by Lost & Found on "Classic Bluegrass" and on "Rebel Records: 35 Years of the Best in Bluegrass (1960-1995)," and by Lost Highway on "Lifetime of Sorrow."] |

I used to make this mistake often, just remember to Search Here First. |
15 May 05 - 10:43 PM (#1485769) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Wildflowers for Mary....old country song From: Peace SIAS, That's nice. Put the words "Wildflowers for Mary" into/onto the search engine for both DT and Forum. Let me know what you get. Now, if you have a way to do it that doesn't quote the title as given, please tell me and I will shine your shoes at least once. |
15 May 05 - 11:32 PM (#1485792) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Wildflowers for Mary....old country song From: GUEST,SIAS You have a valid point Brucie. The Forum results give 164 hits and not nary a one comes up with the desired information. If someone is so far off on the guess of the correct song title, as in this case, where wild MOUNTAIN flowers is needed instead of just wildflowers. However, with a song search, it still is best to try a SEARCH first and we both agree on that. I'm a po' boy without shoes so I'm glad you did not have to shine my feet! |
15 May 05 - 11:44 PM (#1485801) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Wildflowers for Mary....old country song From: Peace LOL Thank you. Thought I was doing something wrong. Story of my life. I'm a po' boy, too, so it would have been a spit shine. You lucked out. Bruce |

15 May 05 - 11:57 PM (#1485807) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Wildflowers for Mary....old country song From: Peace Ya can't DO that. Ya GOT no boots. hehehe Either way, your advice is good. Search first on the Mudcat, THEN go visit Mr Google. Measure twice, cut once, not the other way 'round. |
16 May 05 - 12:04 AM (#1485810) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Wildflowers for Mary....old country song From: GUEST Good play on words Brucie. You always have a come back, don't you? I, of course, did not mean "boot" as to "Kick" but "to boot" meaning "also" (For our over the pond and over the seas friends that may not understand North American idioms). |

16 May 05 - 11:56 AM (#1486040) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Wildflowers for Mary....old country song From: GUEST,SIAS Maybe some Joe Clone will change the title to 'Wild Mountain Flowers for Mary' and/or include it with the several other Related Threads. I also once thought this was an "old country song" but it is a bluegrass song written in the 1960s or '70s. |
16 May 05 - 11:08 PM (#1486366) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Wildflowers for Mary....old country song From: GUEST,leeneia Searching the DT is an uncertain proposition. As a test, I searched for the phrase "has gone for a soldier," and the DT gave me two songs with that phrase in it. However, when I searched for "flowers for Mary," which occurs several times in the song being discussed, it found nothing, although the song is said to have been in the DT since 2000. So let us not be too hard on those who fail to find what they are asking about in the DT. |
16 May 05 - 11:34 PM (#1486386) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Wildflowers for Mary....old country song From: GUEST The registered title is "Wild Mountain Flowers." What's the problem? Isn't that what Mudcat has? (In Rebel Records Anniversary Box Set, "Rebel Records 35 Years of the best Bluegrass(1960-1995)," cd3, track 64). |
