Gig (paid) for Mudcatters (+free beer)

Open invitation for any mudcatters to join us in Wilmington, Deleware any summer Saturday from 4-8pm at Iron Hill Brewery on the Riverfront. We got a great weekly gig there so I thought I'd open it up to any Mudcatter willing to take a trip to see us and play. We play on the deck overlooking the river. Great sound, lovely view, sophisticated, respectful and attentive crowd. Wilmington has a great scene up and coming.

Gig includes free beer, 1/2 price (sea)food and $50 bucks. Gotta call me first (610-517-8858) to qualify for the cash, but if you just show up on a whim, beers on me. You could crash at Mudcat central if you need to as well. Wow, this sounds fun...

First show back is June 4th.

By the way - thanks for the forum. I hope you're feeling better.

We are establishing a period between US Memorial Day......AND September 15th?????????????

Sincerely,

Fearful of arriving October 08 and find myself "cut-off."

You can always call me before leaving garg. Can you imagine: Live in concert, gargoyle, Martin Gibson and Clinton Hammond? We'll call them "The Nice Guy Blues Band". I'd pay to see that actually.

Max I'm so glad to see you posting on your own web site, it just shows what being rear ended can do for your social life. If I were anywhere near I'd 'Cross the Delaware' but shit it's one helluva long way from the north of Scotland. Love the idea for 'The Nice Guys Blues Band' if only I wasn't so lovely myself I'd qualify for membership.

.......Dreaming...... (thinks) I aint even got a passport!

Thats a lovely kind offer though Max.

Sounds good for someone.

Have a great night, whosoever makes it.

Add jOhn of Hull to the Clinton Hammond / Martin Gibson supergroup.

Georgiansilver could be added in order to add reasoned sanity to the proceedings.

Then it would be entertaining.

That would be kind of neat. Except playing the blues makes me really sleepy. I'm just too white and middle aged.

Let's turn it into a hot bluegrass band.

I joined Max and the Other 99 Percent last Saturday at the Iron Mill in Wilmington. The weather was wonderful. The view was beautiful (both on and off the deck) and the band fantastic! One of their members, Sean, couldn't make it, so Paul their regular bassist switched to guitar and mandolin so I could play gutbucket and jug. Within about 2 minutes I felt like I was old friends with everyone. Max, Carl, Andrew (Hellmouth), Stephanie, Lauren, and Paul really made me feel at home. They are also all really good musicians both as solo acts and as the whole group. Stephanie also writes some great songs. Max is also really becoming an entertainer. Next Getaway don't let him getaway without a spotlight show.

One of the best things about their performance and playing with them is you can tell that they are having fun, and it is infectuous. Hell mouth especially was enjoying his new drums. There were only three complaints on it being too loud :-) I now have a sprained right hand from trying to keep up on the old gutbucket.

If you have a chance before winter sets in, stop by Wilmington on a Saturday afternoon for a great time!

JAB

P.S.

Everyone should be darn grateful that Max doesn't simply chuck the whole Mudcat Cafe and say enough of this! He certainly has other things to do, like a family, a day job, his own music and band.

Sheesh!

Thanks again for a wonderful time.

Max,

I've PMd you. The Shivers, Susette and I would like accept your offer. We're just a few hours from Wilmington (free beer?) and the spot on the river sounds lovely(free beer?)

Maybe we can excite some other mudcatters to come up and make it a party.

How's August 27th?

cheers, Chance

Chance,

I'm going to try and talk the Missus into August 27th. Just because I have a zillion other things I must do is no reason not to go and have fun. Hey, Max! Can I substitue free ice tea for the beer (and no, you can't have mine to drink for yourself).

I'm going to try to broadcast this show live using PalTalk. I created a room called Mudcat Gig that will open around 3:45pm EST. I just tested the audio feed, and it seems to work well. This will give ya'll a chance to listen in and chat with us live. I'll be testing for another hour, so the room will be open now till about 1:30. Check it out.

SWEET!!! Hooray, Max, glad to see you
are using paltalk--i have spent many
hours there enjoying exchanging music!!
for those of yo who have not been there (yet)
here is how it works..go to www.paltalk.com
(here is a short, free, download)
go to "rooms", "music" then the Mudcat Gig room
if you speakers you can hear the room.
if you have a microphone you can join in
IF the room is set up for interaction,
during the broadcaast, my guess it that Max
will set it for listening only.
But you can still interact in the text area.
and the system is designed to use cameras,
also. have a good one!!

Max, Carl, Stepanie, Sean, et al, we had a grand time with you yesterday. Gread audience and great beer, and a lovely afternoon on the deck above the river.

For those who don't know, Max's band is terrific. If you have read my posts over the years, I'm not given to hyperbole. So when I say they're terrifice, they truly are. They had Susette and I smiling from the downbeat right through the evening. Great repertoire, well played and sung. Sean's mandolin is very cool, and Carl's John Hurt finger style is solid and true, good bass and drums. I don't know the other girl singer's name but she was right there. We wanted Stephanie to come to MD and marry one of our sons. Great voice, great energy.

Our boy Max was bandleader and vocalist fine, fine, fine.
Go see 'em. Don't miss 'em.

From: Roger in Baltimore

I'm finally on line. I want to thank Max and the Other 99% for a wonderful evening. The energy these "youngsters" put into the old tunes is a wonder to behold.

Made me feel like an "old man". Of course, I am an old man, so I deserve it.

We were also graced with good weather. It was raining when I got to the Brewery, but it soon stopped and by 5 or 6 PM the sun even came out. But that also allowed the temperature to be moderate. It took about an hour and a half for the crowd to form, but by the time Chance and Susette came onstage, the deck was full and stayed that way the rest of the show.

I highly recommend this event to all Mudcatters, performance and audience alike. Also, the food is excellent, a healthy step above "pub fare". I can't speak from personal experience, but reports indicates the beer is not bad either.

I forgot to mention Roger in Baltimore's most excellent performance of "Kind Hearted Woman" and his beautiful Taylor 12 string which he let me hold and play (briefly)and other good tunes as well, with a few puns to groan on.
