Help!!!!!! I really could do with a bit of assistance here. I've bought a book on open D tunings and quite frankly it's blinding me, talk about don't know where to start. Ane ideas about where I can get info on chord shapes for this tuning, or must I sit and sit and make my fingers bleed trying to work it all out for myself.Helllppp????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Schmuze,

Here are a few basic chords for open D (D A D F# A D). If you have any problems interpreting the desriptions below, post back to this thread and I'll explain it. Keep in mind that any of thee forms can be use for barre chords as shown on the last two chords, D7 & G7.

Schmuze, Mark Hanson has a couple of books out--one sort of like a backpocket book; the other a pretty extensive one. Can't recall off-hand the adress to write to, but if you can get your hands on a copy of "Acoustic Guitar" magazine, there is almost always an ad for his publishing co. in there. He gives tips on getting in tune as well as diagrams for fingerings. Good luck.

Hey Schmuze...Looks like you've already gotten some good advice. Don't know why you wanted to play in Open D, but once you start you'll find some beautiful ways to use it. I keep one of mine in Open D all the time. If your guitar has a really well balanced sound, Open D is that much better. I'm more of a finger pickin' folkie and I'm askes a lot about playing in Open D as it's not quite so common with "folkies." The change in chord construction changes everything. Sorry to ramble on but stay with it!
