Fiddler Andy - 'Is there a web site?'

Yep! Mr Happy's link works - it's right above yer own post!

Also - 'Can I help other than 2 be there?'

Try ringing organiser Steve Fairholme on 01943 467 189

The whole w/e is to be based on 'participation' events
- singer's sessions, playing sessions, dance sides etc.
Very few organised 'concerts' as such - and as much outdoors as the weather allows - utilising the bandstand in the grounds leading to Hardraw Force.
Campsites both there in the grounds of the Green Dragon and a large 'independant' one next door.
Should be a very relaxed affair.
Cheers! HFA

This is a great location and a wonderful pub - but be warned, the midges are vicious so take some good repellent or be prepared to wear a bag on your head for the outdoor bits of the event.

Bit of promotion (self-promo if you will - but there's no one else to do it for us, so why not?)
The Duncan McFarlane Band are at Hardraw all week end - the acoustic version of the band, and the full electric version who'll play outside on the bandstand at 2pm ish (if wet, in the Green Dragon concert room)
I'm doing a guitar workshop too (Drop D, C Modal, aw, whatever folk ask about) in tandem with local blues and ragtime specialist Gerry Cooper.

As luck would have it, the 'Music Room' offered me a place working their stand as 'strings person' at Cambridge Fest the same w/e - a free ticket! Dammit. Missed out again. Pity about the clash.

Prob'ly just as well, we (the leccie band) need a good run out afore playing the Ham Marquee on Friday 5th Aug with the Battlefield Band as part of the climax to Sidmouth Festival.
8pm we're on there. Please do come and say hello and share some beer after we're off (at 9).

Would love to meet some of you Catters at either venue. Do say hello! Cheers - HFA

The site behind the pub is next to the beck so I'd be suprised if it doesn't flood. I don't know about the other site, that's further down the road. Take a dingy & you'll be fine.

Site behind the pub's fine. It's well above the level of the (fairly small) beck.

Hardraw Force itself seldom looks like the illustration. We renamed it "Hardraw Drip" when our children were small. It wasn't bad when we stayed there in May, though.

It was a brilliant weekend and is going in my diary for next year! Lots of music, lots of real ale, lots of good company (Thanks for the drink Hipflask).

There was more water coming over the force today than yesterday but even so it wasn't 'in spate'.

The weather was nowhere near as bad as it could have been and today was even sunny so the concert at the bandstand could go ahead outdoors as planned.

Thanks to all who planned, worked so hard etc, especially Mark who's establishment it is.

Hats off to tireless landlady Yvonne and our host Mark!
Big raps to 'new' organiser Steve!
The place was heaving all w/e.
This first ever partnership tween those three was
a resounding success! Long may you now run.

Cheers Tig - your drink? A pleasure, my new friend.
Thanks for sorting out my hand!

Glad you liked the leccie band Martin.
On Sunday I was shown a videophone clip
of you doing my 'Robin Hood's Bay' in a singaround.
Went off to lie in a darkened room! You rogue!
Good on ya for coming up all the way up from Barton
See you at Walton mebbe?

Thanks for the 'Policy' doc Badger. Cheers!

Rain? Flooding?
Hardly any of the first on Fri and Sat, gloriously
sunny on the Sunday (appropriately!)
No sign of flooding at all, who came up with that idea?

As I slowly come to after a grand w/e I'll keep posting
up odd snippets as I gradually recall them.
More later..... HFA

Sounds like it was another good gathering, was planning to come over Sat. Eve. was going to get train upto Garsdale Head then cycle down, but missed the train, so spent night at HOME, oh well there's always next year.

There were sessions in five different rooms of the Green Dragon all at once. Some rooms made it till 3am Fri and Sat night. Missed Sunday, had to go home but caught the dancing out on the street at the front before going. Spectacular!!!!
Loads of free goings-on evrywhere.
The folk rock outdoor concert on Sat took place indoors not out on the bandstand in the camping area cos it looked like rain would come, but didn't. two hours of top class stuff for free.
The weather perked up for Sunday no end and the folk rock concert for Sunday afternoon went ahead as planned I'm told. Jez Lowe and the Bad Pennies rounded off the Friday night concert which was excellent. Julie Felix topped off the Sat evening concert with style.
Same 'team' already been asked to, and said 'yes' to running it again next year. Should be even better, specially if the weather isn't so gloomy.
get it in yer diaries now. Same weekend.

From: HipflaskAndy

Yep, it's definitely on in 2006 - and I'll probably get a thread of 'its own' going for 'em so as folk aren't confused ('cause if they open up this one, the first umpteen threads concern 05).

But for now, the dates are 28th-30th July, centred round the Green Dragon of course and I believe some of the guests to be
Last Night's Fun, Grace Notes, Wiches of Elswick, Dave Vermond and the Duncan McFarlane Band (ahem, that's me, which is why I'm party to this info at present).
There'll be more... but the main thrust of this fest is that it's participant rather than guest based - so it's dance, singing and playing sessions (for free).
So (to use the Leeds City Varieties Good Old Days phrase) it's chiefly yourselves!! And was a grand affair, for being so, last year!
Cheers - Duncan

Hi Unicorn Man...
bit startled by the 'WELL Hipflask Andy. Where is it then????'
....seeing as the thread starts right up there on post #one with the Gathering's web address.
Thought everyone would take that as 'read'.
See you there and I'll lend you my reading glasses as I ask you what pint you want pulled (me buying) - OK?
Come say hello. I'll try to remember my badge! Cheers!

...and Dave the Gnome....
Not that we aren't 'folk', but I'm told my DMcF Band (electric) is quite palatable to non-folkies. Some of 'em come from a rock background (and it shows!!!)
We're on the bandstand in the Green Gragon grounds - by the path to Hardraw Force (Falls) made famous in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves by Kev-Costner-bathing-nude-scene - we'll be clothed! We'll be doing a two hour set (or so) of our brand of folk-rock - and our set is FREE! Mebbe your friend would try us and some ale - and hopefully some good weather! Cheers! - Duncan
