Well, I'm sure that the 4th of July don't do much fir my non-American fellow Mudders and may not mean much to the Americans but...

Like what's you gonna do fir fun???

I'm going attend, party at and perform at a small-town-America 4th of July festival in my new town, Luray, Va. and I'm excited and honored to be booked, seein' as they're only gonna have 5 bands...

And lookin' forward to meetin' some of my new neighbors...

Let's see ... we've got a three day weekend. Saturday: three deck appointments; one bid presentation; pour concrete for a small fence/arbor I'm building for "Bride Judy. Sunday: drawing board working on two designs; one bid presentation; start building the fence/arbor. Monday: two appointments; finish the fence/arbor; load tools for Tuesday morning!

Merry fourth of July everyone!! Bob

Bobert, Luray as in Luray caverns?

I ain't Bobert, Donuel, but yes, Luray as in Luray Caverns. I visited the caverns a number of times when I was in my teens. I've always remembered the tour guide saying, "Now we're going to turn off the lights and let you see REAL black. And if you're scared in the dark, just close your eyes."

Love it.

Sheryl and I, as always, will be among the quarter-million-plus nutballs squeezed onto the West Lawn (and steps) for A Capitol Fourth. Keep an eye peeled for us on your local PBS affiliate... 8-)

3:30-8:00 pm gig with the N.O. Quarter Shantey Krewe at O'Flaherty's, about a half-block from the Mississippi River in the New Orleans French Quarter ~ very handy to the 9pm fireworks show, right there on the riverfront.

I'm hoping to get a decent free parking space on the street when I drive down there at 3-3:15. Parking will be impossible for those arriving in the area after 7 or 8pm.

We are planning on celebrating with our small town. There's a parade in the morning and fireworks in the evening. They usually fire the works up in the sky from a local park which gets jammed full. Since we don't like crowds, we'll be watching from a hillside in the distance...where you can hear both the crickets and the fireworks!

Actually, we are celebrating the entire weekend. Last night my husband whisked me away to a fireworks celebration that we have wanted to attend for a number of years. It was called Set The Night to Music. The idea was that the radio station would broadcast a medley of songs dedicated to the American worker that was choreographed to the fireworks. It didn't quite work out that way and the show was pretty short...20 minutes. It was, however, a beautiful day and the evening was cool with no humidity. The fireworks were nice but I had more fun watching the family next to us...bored children are really creative!!!! :)

Today is a picnic in the woods. Yep...we have it covered, picnic, parade, fireworks and yes, sparklers!

Happy 4th of July!!!

Michelle

I've got a whole beef brisket and a Pork Butt in the smoker smokin' away. The potato salad is in the refrigerator, and ears of corn are ready to cook, and our kids are all bringing desserts and side dishes. Fifteen in all, and we are looking forward to it. Wednesday we leave for a trip to Alaska for two weeks and we will go with a full stomach.

Doug:

Enjoy the celebration, and all the kids, and the good chow. AND your trip to Alaska. Good to get up there while there are still some icebergs to admire.

Nottingham, New Hampshire has the coolest small town Independence Day celebration I have ever run into.

We gather together at 7 a.m. at Demmon's Old Country Store in West Nottingham, NH on Rte. 252. FREE breakfast (eggs, toast, bacon/sausage on the grill, red white & blue berry & whipped cream fruit cup) at 7 a.m. Between 8 and 9 a.m. we sit around and play traditional music (American, English, Scots, Irish) and then at 9 a.m. David Behm reads the entire Declaration of Independence from the porch of the store.

Then we go home at 9:30 a.m. -- or off to other celebrations.

I think more Americans should read the Declaration of Independence these days . . .

Alas & alack! Storms have raged through Kansas today, & they're suggesting more for tomorrow. I shall be indoors jammin'. Who needs to be munched upon by mosquitoes, anyway?

We were going to go to the Willie Nelson picnic in Fort Worth like we did last year, but then it occurred to us that if we really wanted to see Bob Dylan we might as well spend the bucks and go to an actual concert, where we could actually see and hear him and not have to die of heatstroke to do it. Freaking brilliant.

Instead, I slept in, ran a couple of errands, fielded an awkward "happy birthday" (today is my birthday--I'm 201 years younger than the United States) phone-call from the cute guy from church with whom I've been hanging out lately, played the fiddle, and went to a friend's house for grilled chicken and birthday cake/peach cobbler (couldn't decide on a dessert, so we had two). I got light-bulbs for birthday gifts. Actually, they're really nice light-bulbs so I can take photographs indoors.

Tried to call my mom. Left a message on the machine. Guess she's out having fun with my brothers.

Me? I worked and then I went shopping for light fixtures.

Thats what happens when you live in Canada.
