28 Feb 99 - 08:13 PM (#60787) Subject: RE: Update of Audio Folk Music on the Web From: Jim Lesses Hi folks, Well, the rush of additional online internet folk music sites has certainly slowed to a virtual trickle over the past few weeks, and I have been too busy to go actively seeking out more! Only 4 new sites have been added since my last posting to this group on January 29th. The full list can be accessed from the Folk Federation of South Australia's web site by following the Folk Music Online link on the Home Page. Go to: http://www.folk-sa.asn.au/index.htm If you know of any others, drop me a line and I will add them to the page. 23 Jul 99 - 07:23 PM (#98650) Subject: RE: Update of Audio Folk Music on the Web From: GutBucketeer Here is another link that has some great Old Time and blues at different times of the week. Especially on Saturday from Noon to 3 pm. WMMT broadcasts out of Kentucky. Check out the Apalshop links on their web-site! http://www.broadcast.com/radio/public/wmmt/ P.S. They use Microsoft Media Player (yuck!) which doesn't work on my PC at work (Darn). P.P.S. Watch out. If you're late in tuning in you may get some real real hard rock and punk music. The station is very eclectic. JAB |
23 Jul 99 - 07:55 PM (#98665) Subject: RE: Update of Audio Folk Music on the Web From: Charlie Baum Onefine radio station which I grew up with is WPKN in Bridgeport, Conn. They play a lot of folk music, though they also play other things. Each program host is given four hours and carte blanche to program it anyway they see fit. When it's good, it's some of the best radio you've ever heard, and categories don't fit well. WPKN is now on the web. The broadcast quality isn't the best, and they can only host 25 listeners at a time (as of July 1999). But I'm particularly fond of Dave Schwartz's show on Sunday evenings. 23 Jul 99 - 10:30 PM (#98703) Subject: RE: Update of Audio Folk Music on the Web From: CarlZen The recent issue of Dirty Linen (#83 - August/Sept. '99) has an article titled "internet radio" (pp44-45) with lots of good information. This article is not available on their website, though. There was also a recent thread titled WKSU (I think), which had some internet folk music sites listed. (By the way, didn't FM -as in FM radio- originally stand for 'folk music'? Seems like at one time that's where we'd hear it.) |

One of the most enjoyable web radio broadcasts I know of comes out of Pittsburg every Saturday Morning. It's called The Saturday Light Brigade and can be found here:
