Hi. Can anyone here decipher the lyrics to the Fureys song Irish Eyes - it'snot the same as Irish Eyes are Smiling, it's a completely different song. I have run it over and over again and can get very little that I understand. Would appreciate better ears having a listen. Thanks.

What is the exact song title you are listening to, and could you post the CD or album it is from?

The track is called simply "Irish Eyes". It's on the album The Best of The Fureys & Davy Arthur (not the one subtitled Celtic Dreams, the one where they are sitting in the lounge room). It's track 18. It starts off (I think) Girl of Mine, Girl of Mine you've got Irish Eyes, Irish Eyes...

I can't make out any more.

Hope this helps someone out there.
Thanks

allmusic has a sound sample. I listened, but I found the words just too unintelligible.

Normally a good searching technique is to listen to a sound sample, transcribe what you can, and then Google with a phrase or two, but I'm stuck at the transcription step. Can anyone help?

By the way, it's attributed to "Lyle, McGuiness."

Hey, this page says there's a band called The Lyle McGuinness Band, that recorded IRISH EYES on an album called "Acting on Impulse," originally released in 1983, re-released as a CD in 2002. I couldn't find a sound sample, though.

Well, that's extremely interesting - I'd not considered provenance before, just assumed it was a Furey's track. You're a champeen, Jim but you've just given me hundreds more pages to search. Google is not forthcoming on string searches - I've even gone further into the track to the line "don't go giving me no dirty looks now" but no luck. This is driving me mad. I wish I could find a snippet from the Acting on Impulse cd. On, On... I'll find it one day I hope.

This is what I made of it..... I think it's awful.

Girl o'mine, girl o'mine, you've got Irish eyes
Girl o'mine, girl o'mine, you've got Irish eyes
Don't go giving me dirty looks, you know it hurts me so
You're only using that scornful look, just to get around me now

Girl o'mine, Girl o'mine, you've got Irish eyes
Girl o'mine, Girl o'mine, you've got Irish eyes
You can make me do anything (any ting) I'm under your thumb
Tell me go and I stay on, look my way and I'm come??????

Hear the sound move your feet, no you can't sit down
Hear the sound feel the beat, no you can't sit down
I keep them making them same mistakes, and you keep making me ???
I don't know what it takes but I know you've got enough
